Rosacea skin effects

October 26th, 2008 by admin

Rosacea skin effects

A skin disease of unknown causes that causes an array of symptoms, including redness and puffiness on several areas of the face, including cheeks and nose. Rosacea cannot be cured, but treatment should be sought since the condition can worsen over time if not treated correctly or promptly. Rosacea is similar to mild forms of acne but more severe. Confined to the face, typically exhibiting more redness or blemish areas. Rosacea is more common in women than men. Rosacea is an “adult form” of acne which is characterized by a chronic inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead. Pimples and pustules may also occur, and in some patients enlargement of the oil glands of the nose results in enlargement of the nose, or rhinophyma. Rosacea is a long-term disease that affects your skin and sometimes your eyes. It causes redness and pimples. Rosacea is most common in women and people with fair skin. It usually starts between age 30 and 60. Signs and symptoms vary from person to person and are often intermittent. If you or someone you know exhibits any of the following, it is best to consult a dermatologist. Rosacea can be treated and controlled if medical advice is sought in the early stages. When left untreated, rosacea often gets worse and then becomes more difficult to treat. Rosacea affects mostly adults, usually people with fair skin, between the ages of 30 and 60. About 14 million Americans have this chronic skin condition. Although it’s more common in women, men may develop more apparent signs of the disorder. It’s not life-threatening, but it can affect your appearance and lower your self-esteem. Because of its red-faced, acne-like effects on personal appearance, however, it can cause significant psychological, social and occupational problems if left untreated. The cause of rosacea is unknown. There are several theories regarding the origin of overactive facial blood vessels and inflammation, including genetic, environmental, vascular, inflammatory factors. An increased incidence of rosacea has been reported in those who carry the stomach bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, but most dermatologists do not believe it to be the cause of rosacea. Tips for Rosacea Patients Avoid triggers, including hot drinks, spicy foods, caffeine and alcoholic beverages that make the face red or flushed. It’s important to note that although alcohol may worsen rosacea, the condition may be just as severe in someone who doesn’t drink at all; thus rosacea has been unfairly linked to alcoholism. Antibiotic creams or pills may be used to treat redness and pimples. Antibiotic pills may also help treat eye problems. Women who are pregnant should not use some antibiotic creams or pills. If you use antibiotics, be patient-it can take a month or two before you start to see improvement. Practice good sun protection. Seek shade when possible and limit exposure to sunlight, wear hats and use broad spectrum sunscreens with SPF of 15 or higher; reapply every 2 hours. Rosacea responds to treatment but cannot be cured. Left untreated, the redness becomes more permanent and the tiny blood vessels may become more visible. Pimples often develop and in a few people, especially older men, the nose may become bumpy, red and swollen (Rhinophyma). You may be more likely to have it if you blush a lot or if rosacea runs in your family. Rosacea is not dangerous. It can be treated with medications and sometimes surgery.

Depression In Men: Danger Signs Of Male Depression

October 25th, 2008 by admin

Depression In Men: Danger Signs Of Male Depression

Depression is a malevolent disease that affects around 10% of women and 3 to 5% of men worldwide. While there is no clinical classification that separates male depression from female depression, clinicians have reason to believe that depression in men may take a different curve from the way women face depression.Clinicians have discovered that males react to depression in a different way from females. Depression in men is manifested with more dominance in certain symptoms, as opposed to the symptoms that women experience. Men experience depression with more aggression than women. Men are more prone to irritability and sudden anger. Women, on the other hand, are more prone to show depression by lethargy and a feeling of low self-worth.Males are also more prone to showing greater risk-taking behavior, more aggression, and are more likely to manifest a loss of self-control. Male depression is far more dangerous in that they tend to attempt suicide with methods that are more likely to result in death.Depression in men is rather alarming because males tend to clam up instead of talk about their feelings. Men would rather bottle up emotions as opposed to talking to others about these. This would result in the man’s family and friends not being aware of the internal goings-on in their depressed loved one. This disconnect from social and psychological support only exacerbates the condition, and would intensify the motivation for suicide. What is more dangerous is that men are more likely to use “fool-proof” suicidal methods that increase the chances of death truly occurring. Because of this, depression in men should be watched more closely and not taken for granted. If you note that your father, brother, husband or any other close male friend or relative has changes in behavior: i.e., anger/aggression and irritability are more frequent and intense, try to take note of his behavior, observe, and try to reach out to him. It would help your loved one if you would take an understanding stance towards his illness and be supportive all throughout.Depression in men may be more alarming, but still has remedies. Just be observant, aware, and remember to care enough to be involved in what he is going through.

Hair Loss in Women – Understand Why

October 23rd, 2008 by admin

Our culture has a certain standard of beauty and that definitely includes a woman having hair. There is a reason for women to panic when they find their hair is clogging the shower drain. Hair loss in women can ruin a womans self esteem which can result in other psychological problems.

More and more women are facing the hard fact of serious hair loss. It is a problem that is affecting at least 30 million women in the United States alone. To understand why hair loss in women may be occurring, you need to know a bit about how your hair grows.

You can expect your hair to grow at a rate of an inch per month. Each of those hairs has a phase of growth from 2 to 6 years. It is at the end of this period that the hair rests and then it falls out. The hair follicle then begins to grow a new strand of hair for the cycle to continue, sometimes far into our golden years.

There are those people who are born with an inherited gene for hair loss. There is a group of hormones that interfere with the process called androgens. These hormones are in all mens bodies in large quantities and smaller amounts in women.

Men and women do not experience hair loss in the same way. Hair loss in women tends to occur around the entire top of the head, whereas men often have a bald spot in the back of their head, around their temples and the crown of the head. It is now thought that different factors contribute to hair loss in women, than those of men.

To find more information on the other factors and causes of hair loss in women, you can find all you need when you search online. You can find treatments for hair loss in women and advice from experts and sufferers alike. You can even join a chat group that focuses specifically on hair loss in women and you can speak to others about remedies they have tried before you spend your money on any bogus treatments.

Belly Dance - A Unique And Exciting Way To Exercise!

October 22nd, 2008 by admin

Belly dancing can be used for display or entertainment. Women, men and even children can find enjoyment and fitness in this art form, whether they are beginners or advanced or somewhere in between.

In recent years, belly dancing has been catching on in the Western World. You can find classes in almost any city. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced, you can you find classes to meet your skill level. Even children can get in on the action!

Belly dancing started out as a dance tradition in the Middle East as a way to strengthen a woman%26#8217;s hips for giving birth. Now, it has become a form of entertainment and exercise, as well as an art form.

It is not widely realized that the advanced dancers already know over thirty moves! The good news is there are no footsteps to remember if you are just learning. You learn how to move very isolated parts of the body in rhythm to music.

Movements of belly dancing are very isolated. Your hips will lift, thrust and shimmy while your belly rolls and your pelvic muscles tilt. Your arms will make snake like movements while your legs will either be shimmying one at a time or together in a double shimmy.

Once you have these and other movements mastered, you will put them to work in several positions, the basic and parallel positions as well as floor work that include dropping, sitting and then returning to a full stand. Also, you can%26#8217;t forget about the veil work that comes into play.

Now you know why there is so much to learn! Some teachers may give these movements different names, they all reduce to the same thing - Very skilled moves. Body movements will be the same, however, no matter the name. Making the body shake, quake, curve, thrust, lock and drop. The arms and hands follow through with the movements in fluid motion. The belly remains exposed to show her control and strength.

The dancers costume will leave the belly exposed during the dance. This is to make it easier on the spectators, whether they are judges or patrons, to see how much control she has over her body. Also, the more skin that is exposed, the more sensual her movements become. It is very stimulating to watch a well-trained belly dancer display her art in this manor, with her hips and mid-drift exposed.

If you are going to take your belly dancing on to a more authentic level, you will want to make sure your costume is appropriate. The top should be almost like a bra with ornate beading and sequins for decorations. The bottoms can either be a full skirt or loose fitting shear pants.

Other accessories you will want to add are a belt that is weighted,

bands for you wrist and/or arms, scarf and possibly finger-symbols. This may seem like a lot of decoration, but you want to make sure every part of your body is accentuated to show off the hard work you have put into mastering these moves.

On the other hand, belly dancing is a wonderful form of exercise and will make a great addition to your overall fitness routine. There are two basic steps to master if this is what you are after. The first is the all-important stretching. Using an exercise ball or yoga type stretches are ideal. The second is a group of basic belly dancing moves such as hip and shoulder movements along with abdominal, waist and thigh movements.

Make sure that if you plan on belly dancing during pregnancy, you check with your doctor. Because of the nature of the dance, it will have a different effect on your body than other types of prenatal exercise. It also may be prudent to get a second opinion to give you added peace of mind.

You want to make sure you workout four to five times per week, for thirty to forty minutes. Make sure that this is continuous activity and that you break a sweat. The cardiovascular effect will result in weight loss or control, if a healthy diet is used as well. These kinds of exercises release endorphins which are the %26#8217;feel good%26#8217; hormone.

These are just a few of the reasons that belly dancing can be good for you. Also, if you take classes, it can be a source of friendship as well. But be careful that you don%26#8217;t over do it. Be sure to drink your six to eight glasses of water a day and take your vitamins. This will help your body recover and get ready for a new workout tomorrow.

One of the places you can learn belly dancing is at a local dance studio. Check the local listings to see where they are offered. If you don%26#8217;t want to try to learn this complex dance in public, you can find a multitude of information on the Internet, in books and from instructional videos or DVDs.

You can find classes and pricing at helenavlahos.com, and at visionarydance.com, you will find classes, DVDs and workshops. To complete your costume, check out home.earthlink.net. Rania Bossonis has a book written on the art of the belly dance.

Summary:

Belly dancing can be used for display or entertainment. Women, men and even children can find enjoyment and fitness in this art form, whether they are beginners or advanced or somewhere in between.

Hair Loss Consumer Information - Stop Hair Loss and Balding

October 21st, 2008 by admin

Baldness involves the state of lacking hair where it often grows, especially on the head. The most common form of baldness is a progressive hair thinning condition called androgenic alopecia or ‘male pattern baldness’ that occurs in adult male humans and other species. More than half of men and women in the United States experience hair loss. About 30% of people have hair loss by age 30 years, and about 50% have hair loss by age 50 years. Hair loss is so common that most of the time it is considered a normal variation and not a disease

The official term for hair loss is Alopecia and it can mean either the total or partial loss of hair. If your are suffering from hair loss you need proper hair loss information before you can accurately start treating your hair loss. There are several considerations that hair loss information will give you which you should use to determine the severity of your hair loss and also help you to understand what treatment options are available to you.

What To Consider

When it comes to hair loss information there is a lot out there and first you need to determine what type of hair loss you have. Hair loss can develop gradually and it may also be patchy or it may occur all over the body. Every day nearly one hundred hair are shed from the healthy human head. An average human scalp will contain about a hundred thousand hairs. Hair will survive for about four and a half years while growing at about half an inch each month. Then in the fifth year the hair will fall out to be replaced by a new one within six months. The genetic form of hair loss results when the body fails to produce sufficient new hairs whilst being accompanied by excessive hair loss.

As people age they tend to lose the same amount of hair thickness and amount whether they are men or women. Men are more likely to have inherited pattern baldness then women. By the time they turn thirty about 25% of men will start to go bald and about two-thirds of men will be either completely bald or have balding patterns by the time they turn sixty. The typical pattern baldness will have a receding hairline along with thinning around the crown. If men do not have testosterone as a result of a genetic abnormality or castration then they will not develop pattern baldness since the pattern baldness needs testosterone.

Other Causes

Before assuming you have the common kinds of hair loss if is important to consider other causes of hair loss. While baldness is not typically a result of any single factor it can be related to aging, heredity and testosterone levels. Other possible causes of hair loss include hormonal changes, a serious illness, medications, excessive shampooing or blow-drying, emotional or physical stress, nervous habits, burn or parasites such as ringworm.

Main points

* Many causes of female hair loss are temporary - check your general health and be patient

* Take a look at your family for an idea of your risk of female pattern baldness

* Don’t be taken in by claims for wonder products - there’s no cure for female pattern hair loss

Chances are that the greatest challenge of losing your hair is coping with the change in your appearance. You may be frustrated or upset by other people’s reactions or after trying various treatments with little success.

Erectile Dysfunction treatment

October 20th, 2008 by admin

Erectile Dysfunction treatment
by jainish

Studies reveal that men are less concerned about taking care of their health than women. Compared to women, men die earlier and are at higher risk for suicide, accidents, violence, and drug and alcohol problems. Some diseases are also more common in men than in women. Men have penises, prostates, testicles and other anatomical parts that can pose a threat to their health and well-being. The social drive to be masculine affects the psyche of men in a variety of ways, which also has an impact on health. Men are clearly at risk for some health problems, yet they are less likely to visit a physician or to think of a health problem as serious enough to seek medical attention. This is changing as men are encouraging each other to be active in managing their health. To complement the general information presented in other chapters of this publication, here is some information specific to mens health.

Testicular cancer Testicular cancer is the most common cancer for men aged 15-34. This type of cancer is 40 times more likely to occur in men whose testicles have not descended into the scrotum or did so after the age of 6. This type of cancer is usually found by men themselves, and it is very curable if caught early. The best way to protect you is to do a monthly testicular self-exam and to have your physician check for testicular abnormalities during an annual physical exam.

Erectile dysfunction

Among the various sexually related problems a man can face, erectile dysfunction (ED) is arguably the most traumatic. Too many men, their ability to perform sexually is an integral part of their self-image, and to not be able to perform in this domain is an insult to their “manhood”. It is estimated that ED regularly affects 34% of men in Canada and that less than 10% of them seek treatment. Of course, since the approval of the anti-impotence drug Viagra by Health Canada, the number of men seeking treatment has greatly increased, but many still do not seek help.

Causes of erectile dysfunction

Although ED is more common in older men, younger men are also affected. It is reported that 50 to 80% of ED is related to physical causes, but many of those with physical causes also experience psychological effects, which further intensify the problem. Many physical causes of ED have been identified. They include: disruptions in blood flow in the penis (such as that caused by the narrowing of blood vessels, also known as atherosclerosis); nerve damage; decreased or low testosterone levels; diabetes; alcoholism; liver or kidney failure; multiple sclerosis; and stroke. Many prescription medications such as antidepressants, tranquillizers and high blood pressure medication, can contribute to ED. Men who smoke are at a greater risk of experiencing ED. Erectile dysfunction can also be caused by psychological reasons. One of these factors is how a person feels about sex. If a man is nervous about sex, has had bad experiences with sex or a previous bout of ED, these can affect his ability to achieve a sufficient erection.

Premature ejaculation

The inability to achieve or maintain an erection can be very distressing for a man, but so can premature ejaculation. Premature ejaculation occurs when a man ejaculates too quickly during sex with a partner, leaving the partner sexually dissatisfied. This can happen to a man at any age, but it is more common in younger men. Unlike erectile dysfunction, where there is often an underlying physical problem, there is nothing wrong with the anatomy of a man who experiences premature ejaculation. Treating premature ejaculation involves gaining control over the ejaculatory process. . Performance enhancers

Caffeine

The claims made about caffeine suggest that it can improve endurance by helping the body burn fat and save carbohydrates for later. Several small studies show that caffeine can allow athletes to exercise longer. However, other studies have found little or no benefit. It has not been proven that caffeine helps burn fat.

Antioxidants (such as vitamin E and vitamin C)

The claims about antioxidants say that they limit damage done by free radicals that are released from vigorous exercise. Some studies indicate that large doses of some antioxidants may protect against damage caused by free radicals.

Amino acids

Those marketing amino acids claim that they can boost muscle growth and strength, since amino acids are the building blocks of proteins from which muscle is composed. The scientific evidence that amino acids can be any more effective than proteins in food is very weak.

Creatine

Creatine is produced in the body and replenishes compounds necessary to supply energy. Those promoting creatine supplements indicate that it will boost the amount of available adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which in turn supplies energy and allows for better performance.

Androstenedione

Androstenedione is another relatively new supplement on the market. There has been little study on its protection. It claims to boost testosterone levels in blood and, therefore, can help build muscle.
