Contaminated Tap Water - A World Wide Crisis

Contaminated tap water is being consumed everyday and many people don’t even know it. It is a problem throughout the world and is getting worse. There seems to be little or no action being taken as far as using the technology that we already have in order to upgrade the way that we treat our water.Governments have spent billions of dollars for their other pet projects, but when it comes to the state of our most precious resource they can’t seem to find the money to make the necessary changes. As time goes on and more contaminants raise the toxicity levels of our water ever upward what are we supposed to do?Drugs Are in the Water SupplyContaminated tap water is at a crisis point not just in the United States, but in countries all over the world. Prescription pharmaceuticals are the latest chemicals that have been discovered in the reservoir system. Pharmaceuticals are in the water all over North America, and even England has the problem. The World Health Organization in 2007 reported that 1.1 billion people lacked access to clean drinking water, and that 1.8 million people die because of contaminated water each year. These are all people with absolutely no way to clean their water supplies.Vital Health ThreatWe at least have some form of water treatment that we can use, but what we are currently doing may not be enough in the near future. Contaminated tap water is already having an effect on the weaker of our society. Those with immunodeficiency issues, those who are very old, and those who are very young are at risk. They are at risk immediately because of the parasites, bacteria, and cysts that have survived the chlorination process, or have become immune to chlorine altogether. Some of these can cause strong, healthy people to become violently ill if consumed, but they will very well end the lives of those in the group that I mentioned above. Clean Water SolutionSo what do we do about this contaminated tap water when even our government fails to take action in order to protect us? We simply have to set a goal in mind to protect ourselves. The first step that we have to take is to purchase for ourselves a home water purification system. There are models on the market that will remove all of the contaminant threats up to 99.99%. You simply need a four pronged filter to remove the three pronged threat. Your system must include a multi media block, an activated granular carbon filter, a sub micron filter, and an ion exchange unit in order to effectively clean everything up.A unit that features all four of those filters will negate the threat that is presented to you by contaminated tap water. Finally you and your family can find the peace of mind that you’ve been looking for in a easy to install unit at a reasonable price. See box below for my personal recommendation that really is effective. Don’t delay because our drinking water is not going to get any better. The health of your entire family is at stake.

Is Tap Water Really Dangerous to Your Health?

October 24th, 2008 by admin

Is Tap Water Really Dangerous to Your Health?

Is tap water really dangerous? Is tap water a health threat? These are not trifling questions. Most people have no idea as to the seriousness of our drinking water situation. I truly thought that everyone had heard or read the many reports about how harmful our reservoir system has become.Just in case you personally haven’t heard about the danger of tap water, read this short article. You may be shocked at what you find out. Scientists have known for years about the dreadful state of our water supplies. There is said to be around 80,000 available chemicals that at one time or another, and to some extent or another have found their way into the water that we drink. 2,100 of these chemicals are known carcinogens.Possibly it is because I’ve done so much research on the subject that I was caught off guard by being asked is tap water really dangerous. I really didn’t realize that the people around me, that I have thoughtful and intelligent conversations with all of the time didn’t know what danger that they and their children were in. Do you? There was a time when we didn’t have to worry about contamination in our water supply. In the early 1900’s for example, the average person had around a one in 50 chance of contracting cancer. Now, just over 100 years later your chances are one in three, one in two if you are a male.Water systems today equal horse %26 buggy eraIs tap water Dangerous? I am almost certain that you will find the numbers that I just gave you to be fairly definitive proof as to just how dangerous it has become. You would think that in the hundred years since we began using chlorine disinfection as the method for sanitizing our water that someone would have come up with a better idea for cleaning our most precious resource. The truth of the matter is that our methods of water filtration have not advanced on the level of mass water treatment. We are still using the same old horse and buggy system that was in place back then, despite the fact that proven technology for purifying our water is there. The Choice We HaveNow we know the answer to the question: Is tap water really dangerous? We also know that the treatment facilities are not going to take any further measures than they are already taking. So then what do we do? Simply this: We have to buy a water purification system for our homes to remove these dangerous impurities. What You Personally NeedYou will need a filter that incorporates activated granular carbon working synergistically with a multi media block to block the chemical contaminants, a sub micron filter for parasites and bacteria, and an ion exchange for heavy metals. Ion exchange will also mineralize your water, and adjust pH levels. The filters will effectively block 99% of the contaminants that attempt to enter your home. Two ways to filter water are: (1) A Whole House Filter System. This filters all the water before it enters your home. (2) A Point of Use Filter. This is a filter in your shower and on the faucet, usually the kitchen faucet. I use both models. My logic that the point of use models may just pick up the 1% that my whole house filter missed. Now that we’ve realized the answer to is tap water dangerous, we can take steps, see resource box below, on our own to assuring that we have pure, fresh water.

Home Improvement, Are You Still Looking for a Reverse Osmosis Water Dispenser?

October 21st, 2008 by admin

If you are still looking for a reverse osmosis water dispenser then you understand the importance of providing clean, contaminant-free water for the overall health and safety of your family. Reverse osmosis water filtering systems have become quite popular in recent years due to increasing awareness of our polluted water supplies. Drinking, cooking and bathing in highly chlorinated, chemically-contaminated water is something that families are increasingly unwilling to tolerate. But is reverse osmosis the best option when it comes to quality home water filtration? In order to answer this question you have to understand that reverse osmosis was initially developed for the printing and photo processing industries, which required de-mineralized water. Since this water treatment process could directly demonstrate its effectiveness by measuring the amount of total dissolved solids that were removed, it was believed that it could be adapted into a reverse osmosis water dispenser and marketed for in-home use. The problem is that this measurement of total dissolved solids (TDS) doesn’t include contaminant levels. This is because reverse osmosis water filtering systems are not effective at removing synthetic chemicals. The ineffectiveness of this water filtration system comes from the fact that the molecules that make up most synthetic chemicals are small enough to get through the porous reverse osmosis membrane and back into the water. And remember that TDS measurement? That measurement is made up of important minerals like calcium, potassium and magnesium that this same membrane is responsible for stripping from the water. So if you’re pouring water from a reverse osmosis water dispenser you better have a carbon filter added to your system if you want to be sure that you’re getting rid of chemical toxins. And you might also want to add mineral supplements to your diet since you are no longer getting them, naturally, from your water. If you still want to consider a reverse osmosis water dispenser you might like to know that, in addition to the necessary carbon filter, you will need a diaphragmed storage tank. This is due to the fact that reverse osmosis water filtering systems produce less than one gallon per hour. You should also know that for every gallon of usable water that R.O. produces, 2 -3 gallons of water are wasted. You can recover this wasted water, but it will add another expense to this already costly, maintenance-intensive system. If you really want to provide clean, healthy water for your household, there are better options than a reverse osmosis water dispenser. Quality home water filtration that gives you confidence in the water you’re using to drink, cook and bathe is easy to find. All you have to do is look for systems that are based on multi-stage filtration. This type of system efficiently removes harmful chemicals like chlorine, pesticides and herbicides while leaving important trace minerals untouched. Convenient, affordable and easy-to-maintain multi-stage filtration systems are available as drinking water dispensers, shower dispensers and whole-house filtration systems. As a result, you get clean, HEALTHY water for all your household purposes. You can still get a reverse osmosis water dispenser, but the return on your investment in your family’s health may fall short of your expectations. Article written by Olivia Romero - “There are many reasons why we need clean, healthy water but there’s one that has to rank as the most important of all.” Visit http://www.cleancoolwater.com to find out what it is.

It’s only Wastewater, so why is Grit Removal Important?

October 19th, 2008 by admin

When it comes to wastewater in industry, removing particles is probably one of the last things that you are concerned about. After all, this water is marked for waste, it is going to be treated accordingly, so why is there a need to remove any grit that is hanging in suspension? After all, the settling process should take care of it, right?

Actually, as we will see in this article, there are a few different reasons why your industrial wastewater treatment option needs to include grit removal among the first steps of a process to treat the water. The reasons vary from the legal to the financial to the chemical, so let’s take a look!

The legal

Depending on the type of industry in which you work, it might be that local, provincial, or federal laws require the removal of certain types of grit before the water is treated. Remember, not all grit is just dirt; it can include many different elements and materials that can’t be removed through the pooling process. Therefore, it may be that you are required to remove grit as a part of the treatment process.

The financial

Every piece of grit that remains in wastewater has the potential to cause damage to the methods by which the water is transported. This ranges from the pipe through which the water is carried right up to the filtration equipment you use in the next steps of water treatment. Solid particles forced along by water pressure, thousands of them each day, can really start to wear on many different areas of the water system. The inevitable result of this wear is increased costs to the business in terms of maintenance and replacement equipment.

The scientific

Remember not all grit is just dirt. In fact, no grit is just dirt, it is always made up of certain elements and ions that may be harmful not only to living processes, but also to the rest of the treatment process! Excess particles of certain natures may mean that absorption is hindered during the rest of the treatment process. Getting rid of the grit, then, will mean that the whole system functions as it should.

When it comes to wastewater treatment, every step must be followed in order to ensure that the entire process goes as it is supposed to. Grit removal is usually one of the first steps, because if it is not done right it may compromise the effectiveness of the entire system!

Drugs in Tapwater? Yes, They Are in Your Tap Water

October 15th, 2008 by admin

The discovery of drugs in tap water should have come as no surprise to anyone. With the number of chemical contaminants and other impurities in the water you would think that someone would be working on a viable solution to the problem.
Unfortunately, those in charge of keeping our reservoirs safe don’t seem to recognize that there is a problem at all.Neither the Environmental Protection Agency nor the representatives from the water treatment authorities are taking any action whatsoever to tackle the problem of ridding our water supply of deadly impurities. The reason that they don’t recognize the crisis is because their method of measuring the contaminants is flawed. The way that the measure is taken is by considering each individual contaminant by itself.
They then decide on what we should consider to be a “safe” amount of the toxin in our water. There are several problems related to the way that the authorities are determining these allowable limits of drugs in tap water. The main problem with trying to determine these so-called safe limits is that we don’t truly know what the long term effects are of consuming these toxins at any measurable level.Even trace amounts of a contaminant when consumed over a long enough span of time could have serious effects on our health. The fact that they are measuring the contaminants as though each individual agent was the only one present is also a mistake.Even if there was in fact a safe limit for drugs in tap water as individual entities the fact that there are hundreds of these chemicals present renders that singular measurement moot. When any single chemical agent comes into contact with another there is a reaction that occurs. The two toxins will literally be able to draw power from one another, and both will increase greatly in toxicity. Recent studies on the effect that chlorine has on these pharmaceuticals, and vice versa, prove this point. The results of the testing show that even though the individual drugs in tap water may not have any detrimental effect on human cells, that all changes when chlorine is introduced into the equation. What resulted was that the combination of the chemical agents worked to successfully slow the development of growing human cells. What kind of effect has this had on our children?More to the point, what kind of effect have these chemicals wrought on us as adults, since we have suffered continuous exposure since we were little?Nobody seems to know the answer to these questions for sure. Can anything be done in order to stop the threat of drugs in tap water? We already have the technology of how to eliminate these chemical toxins from our water, but it would require large scale renovations to the water treatment facilities which nobody seems to be willing to pay for. That leaves us with only one solution. To effectively eliminate the threat from drugs in tap water we must take matters into our own hands.By purchasing a home water purification system we can prevent any further damage being done.If we won’t do it for ourselves, at least we have to think of our children.Gordon Hall is fervent about enabling you and everyone to live a healthy lifestyle, and is an ardent reviewer of Water Purification Systems.
