Good Digestion Is Essential For Good Health by Jennifer Kays

October 28th, 2008 by admin

A healthy digestive system is crucial to your overall health. Today more and more people have reported having problems like indigestion, acidity and poor waste elimination. The reason is the fast paced life style, and lack of adequate sleep or lack of nourishing diet. Our fast food diets contain refined sugar, preservatives, antibiotic, and hormones that interfere with digestion and health in general. So called “junk food” is contributing to a vast variety of ailments and obesity.

Natural digestive supplements, vitamins, herbs and probiotics are well known to provide people with fast relief from problems like indigestion, acidity and poor waste elimination. Since conventional synthetic drugs are often very difficult for the body to absorb and carry undesirable side effects, an effective alternative is the use of all natural enzymes, fiber, vitamins, supplements, herbs, and probiotics that are derived from natural sources. All natural digestive aids are fast acting and easily absorbed by the human body. Natural digestion chewable wafers or liquids help your body to better absorb food nutrients from the foods you eat and the supplements you take - plus you’re able to break down dairy products and other hard-to-digest foods. Natural digestion enzymes, fiber, supplements, vitamins, herbs, and probiotics help balance and ease digestive discomfort.

Enzymes are proteins that are a vital energy factor needed for every digestive action and reaction that our body needs for proper health. Enzymes combine with coenzymes forming almost 100,000 different substances in the body that make it possible to see, hear, feel, move, digest food and allow the brain to function efficiently. All organs, tissues and all the 100 trillion cells in our bodies depend on the interaction of metabolic enzymes and the energy they help produce. Enzymes break down food particles that are too large or have begun to putrefy. When food particles are too large or have begun to putrefy, our bodies are unable to absorb them and they become like invaders to our blood stream, cells and intestines. Then our immune system begins to attack them in order to protect us. The results may take the forms of nausea, runny eyes, headaches, acid reflux, heart burn, fatigue, allergies or respiratory difficulty, leaky gut, weight gain, candida, or constipation.

Conventional cooking, cooking with a microwave, processed foods and some freezing destroy the enzymes naturally contained in food. At times our own body’s enzyme producing capacity gets overwhelmed and our metabolic digestive ability is compromised. The use of antibotics also destroys beneficial micoflora in our intestines. Research indicates that as we age, the cells in our pancreas becomes less efficient causing an enzyme deficiency that weakens the trillions of cells in our bodies. This enzyme deficiency then, in turn, speeds the aging process creating an undesirable cycle. We can counteract the effects of food preparation, aging, and digestion overwhelm by using all natural enzyme supplements and formulas that increase the amount of enzymes in our body and create a healthy, properly functioning digestive system.

Probiotics derived from natural sources enhancethe growth of beneficial microflora in our intestines. Mircoflora helps process vitamins, nutrients and enzymes that enhance digestive process. The microflora protects our bodies by removing harmful foreign materials that our bodies cannot remove and prevent harmful bacteria from growing in our intestines that causes illness. As we age, the health microflora in our intestines decreases. Our common complaint as we age, is that we cannot eat the way we used to eat or the foods we used to be able to eat. We may develop lactose intolerance, have difficulty with waste elimination, experience respiratory difficulty, acid relux, and feel less energetic or perhaps toxic. Regular replacement of beneficial microflora with the use of all natural probiotics helps us to continually breakdown dairy products or other food that are difficult to digest enabling us to avoid experiencing acid reflux, weight gain and other digestive difficulties that actually speed the aging process.

Of course, all natural fiber is extremely important for good digestion. Soluble fiber attracts water during digestion. This slows down the digestive process and allows you stomach and intestine to absorb more of the nutrition from the food you have eaten. All natural insoluble fiber allows food to move through the digestive tracts of your body and then enables waste and toxins to be eliminated through the bowel. Insoluble fiber removes any blockage in the intestines that may lead to constipation. Fiber is essential for your body to absorb vital vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients and to facilitate the removal of waste materials.

All natural enzymes, fiber, vitamin, supplements, herbs, and probotics help our body to better absorb and utilize the food we eat. They also help us experience proper waste elimination which is vital for removing toxins that could cause us harm and speed the aging process. A well functioning, healthy digestive system is vital to our well being. All natural digestive aid products are an enormous advantage over the use of conventional synthetic drugs. Together, all natural probiotics, digestive enzymes and fiber are a powerhouse for healthy digestion.

Medicines Used in Parkinson’s Disease

Levodopa+Carbidopa One of the problems with the use of levodopa is its high dose. Only 1 % of this drug goes to the brain and the remaining 99% remains in the peripheral region, going waste and also goes to the unwanted adverse effects. Carbidopa inhibits the metabolic break down of levodop in the peripheries and thus allows greater penetration of this drug to the brain. This allows considerable economy in the use of levodopa and also reduces the distressing adverse effects like nausea and vomiting. This combination is, therefore, positively superior to the single drug. In fact, it is used in almost all of the patients requiring levodopa. The combination is available in three strengths and this allows selection of appropriate doses required for a patient. An advantage with this combination is that Vitamin B6 or multivitamins can be given together. Levodopa is also available in combination with benserzide and this has the same effect as the combination with carbidopa and is sold under the trade name BENSPAR. Impact of Drugs: Despite good initial response, the benefit with Colevodopa (levodopa+carbidopa) progressively decreases. It is at this time that the addition of other drug%26 may offer further benefit. However, after a few year (5-7 years), there is a loss of benefit from, dopaminergic drugs probably due to decrease in critical number of nerve cells (degeneration i%26 ongoing) in the basal nuclei. Physical and social rehabilitation remain the last options for advanced cases. Drugs for Correcting the Effects of Excess Acetylcholine Prior to the introduction of levodopa, various drugs were used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Of these the most effective were belladonna alkaloids (anti-cholinergic drugs), obtained from the plant Atropa belladonna, and some synthetic drugs. These drugs rarely produce more than 10-25% improvement, and the disease invariably progresse. One thing is certain though: these caused great improvement in tremor. These are the only drugs effective in drug-induced movement disorder particularly acute dystonia/dyskinesia. They have a role in early and mild form of Parkinsonism disease also. All these drugs had adverse effects like dryness of the mouth, blurring of vision, constipation, urinary retention, and delirium. Orphenadrine has some stimulating effect. Other are sedating. PrecautionsThese drugs should not be administered to patients having difficulty in passing urine due to the prostate or stone in the urinary tract. These agents should be avoided in patients suffering of glaucoma raise pressure in the eyes. The medication should be wIthdrawn gradually. Sudden stopping of the drug may cause an increase in the symptoms of Parkinsonism. Other Drugs Amantadine (AMANTREL) is another drug which is now employed in the treatment of parkinsonism. It brings about beneficial effects by releasing dopamine from the storage site. It is effective in 66% cases but the effect lasts only for 2 to 3 weeks, after which it declines.Bromocriptine (PROCTINAL 1.25 mg, 2.5 mg) is an expensive drug. Though this drug provides the maximum benefit, but it may cause nausea, vomiting, headache, constipation, dizziness, postural hypotension, and drowsiness. In women it increases lactation. Intitially it is given in a dose of 1.25 mg daily with meals and gradually the dose is increased upto 5 to 10 mg per day. Piribedil (TRIVASTAL-LA) is also like levodopa in action and is given in doses of 50-200 mg daily. It should not be given in pregnancy or heart disease. Entacapone and Tolcapone reduce fluctuations in the response due to levodopa+carbidopa and enhance the effect of latter. They are useful in advanced stages only. Selegiline (L-DEPRENYL, SELGIN 5 mg Tab.) is a new drug used as an adjunct to levodopa+carbidopa in a dose of5 mg in the morning and 5 mg at lunch. Additional doses are not beneficial. Because selegiline causes loss of sleep, it should not be taken at night. It is an interesting drug because there is some evidence to show that it may slow the process of neurodegeneration. It allows reduction in the dose of carbidopa+levodopa. It should not be given to epileptics and in chronic tardive dyskinestia. It may cause anxiety, confusion, restlessness, sexual dysfunction, tachycardia, hypertension and syncope. In 1997 two new drugs, pramipexole and ropinirole were introduced. These have fewer side effects than levodopa and are put to use as an adjuncts or alone. A number of surgical methods and even implants to be put in the brain have been developed with considerable success. These are yet to be introduced in India. One such method is implantation of dopamine-producing cells obtained from human foetus. These cells start producing much needed substances (dopamine) in the brain.

How to Heal from Cancer by Building Your Immune System

October 26th, 2008 by admin

How to Heal from Cancer by Building Your Immune System

As a skin cancer survivor turned cancer survivor speaker and cancer support expert, I know that cancer can be healed and recurrences prevented. There are natural cancer treatments that include at their core the building up of the immune system.

You can heal by accessing the power of your immune system. You MUST build your immune system to fight the cancer cells. If you have cancer your immune system was weak or worn out and unable to fight the cancer cells. You can build your immune system with whole food supplements, organic foods and drinks, herbs, teas, etc.

Despite what orthodox medical “experts” continue to want to believe and have us believe, cancer is unnatural and preventable. Lifestyle, environment and diet, and not bad luck or bad genetics, are the usual culprits for those who suffer from cancer. Natural cancer treatments; alternative, complementary, and integrative medicines; and respect for the reality of the body-mind-spirit interconnection are always methods of cancer healing that should be tried before or along with synthetic drugs or radiation treatments. Chemo and radiation have terrible side effects and destroy the immune system the very thing you must have to survive cancer.

The human immune system by its nature, except in people who were born with a congenital problem, is powerful enough to cure and prevent future cancer. However, in the vast majority of people in the modernized world the immune system has been compromised. This leads not only to premature aging, possible sexual problems, heart disease, and weight gain problems, but to cancer as well.

One thing that open-minded research scientists in the field of Glycobiology have found is that cancer can be prevented by the ingestion of long chain carbohydrates; and the best supplement to take to get these long chain carbohydrates into the body seems to be processed aloe vera.

One leading Glycobiological researcher, Dr. Danhof, has written: “The Aloe Vera MPS is a long chain sugar molecule composed of individual sugar molecules connected together in long linear chains. There is wide range in the size of the MPS molecule. The varying sizes determine their healing properties…[Very large size molecules act as] immune system enhancement…The very large molecules are immune modulating, which has a powerful healing effect on …cancer…The MPS molecule activates the Macrophage directly and through the liver to produce a cascade of healing effects: increases phagocytosis by the macrophage to engulf and destroy infected cells and damaged cells (the garbage eater in the body); increases interleukin and interferon levels in the body, which then increases the number and response of T-Cells and Monocytes…MPS also causes the body to produce tumor necrosis factor that destroys tumors by shutting off their blood supply.”

Thus among the natural cancer treatments that one should try, an Aloe Vera MPS supplement stands out. There are more and more of these supplements on the market as research continues to show their effectiveness and smaller pharmaceutical companies who don’t have to worry about losing billions of dollars on a failed R%26D program boldly create variations on the theme.

Another powerful immune system bolstering natural supplement is the Agaricus Blazei mushroom, first discovered 115 years ago and then rediscovered in the 1970s in Brazil. Known by growers as “the king of mushrooms” or “the mushroom of life,” Agaricus Blazei has been demonstrated to reduce the symptoms of cancer in cancer patients in clinical trials.

What are some other ways of bolstering the immune system? Basic, elemental things that anyone can do include drinking herbal teas or take herbal supplements (and you can research different ones first to determine if any are particularly good for cancer); eat lots of protein; get plenty of regular aerobic exercise, especially outdoors (including in cold weather, which can actually make you healthier); get six to eight hours of restful sleep every night; eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables (and don’t cook your veggies above 108° F, because if you do you kill their vital enzymes); eat a lot of fiber (35mg per day is recommended); cut out the white sugar and high fructose corn syrup; and make sure you stay hydrated (especially important if you drink coffee or alcohol regularly).

Herbal Alternative Medicine Cures

Alternative medicine provides powerful cure in treating depression, act as anathetic, energizing the body’s own healing power and offers hope for certain illness which modern medicine may not have answer for, like cancer. Alternative and natural treatments have gained popularity and serve as a complement to traditional therapies. Some treatments get little respect regarding their efficacy, compounded by warnings for potential drug interactions and side effects. Sometimes the scope of herbal medicine is extended to include fungi and bee products, as well as minerals, shells and certain animal parts.Herbal alternatives are frequently used to counter illnesses. In some parts of Europe and Asia. Herbal alternatives can either be internal or external formulations. Herbal medicines may interact with synthetic drugs causing toxicity to the patient, herbal products may have contamination that is a safety consideration, and herbal medicines. Most people use combination of herbs to get the maximum benefits for the body. There are a number of herbal preparations which you can effectively use as herbal alternatives to prescription drugs. These herbal alternatives are derived from herbal practices handed down from generation to generation. When taking herbal alternatives such as antibiotic herbs or even prescription antibiotics, the natural bacteria found in our digestive system is destroyed which makes digestions difficult for days or weeks. To counter this effect, eat fresh real yogurt daily which has vigorous cultures. You can also take acidophilus or probiotic capsules as alternative in order to restore the natural digestive bacteria. When using herbs as alternatives to counter ailments or strengthen the body systems, start with small amount. Many herbs provide health benefits in addition to helping lower blood pressure. Garlic has been touted as an herb with numerous health benefits. Some folk take unconventional herbal drug to handle an amount of bodily disorders. To handle alcoholism, capsules of gamma linoleic acid from evening primrose, borage or currant seed oils are the better unconventional herbal drug for controlling alcoholism. To handle incomplete memory departure, unconventional herbal medicines recommended for consumption are four Gs- ginkgo biloba, ginseng, Siberian ginseng and gotu kola. Hair Loss Information - all we things to know about it

Hair Loss Information - all we things to know about it

The most common form of hair loss in men is by far male pattern baldness (the scientific term for this is androgenic alopecia.) When you suffer from this condition, the hair on your head progressively gets thinner and thinner (this may take years) until it is lost completely. It is called “pattern baldness” because hair is usually lost in a well-defined “M” shape. There is a variety of causes contributing to hair loss. However, according to medical studies, in males the predominant cause is the excess level of the androgenic hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT.) DHT plays a role in the development of male secondary sex characteristics but an increased level of DHT leads to so-called follicular miniaturization, by which the hair shaft width is constantly decreased and the hair becomes thinner. Previously it was thought that baldness was inherited but there is no definitive proof that this is the case.Until recently, the prevalent approach to stopping hair loss was to use such chemical prescription drugs as Finasteride (marketed as Propecia) and Minoxidil. However, it turned out that these drugs do not always help and have many side effects including erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia (growth of breast in men), acne, headaches and others. While these synthetic chemicals help some patients, I wouldn’t risk losing growing breasts along with my hair!Fortunately, when it comes to regaining lost hair and preventing hair loss, there is an alternative to synthetic drugs. There are natural treatments, which work just as well or even better and what is more importantly, they don’t have any side effects. Some of them can even give you permanent results (which is not the case with drugs.) Finally, the ingredients contained in natural hair loss treatments have been used by humans for millennia. This proves their effectiveness better than medical research, doesn’t it?However, it turned out that these drugs do not always help and have many side effects including erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia (growth of breast in men), acne, headaches and others. The Rise, Fall and Rise of the School of Naturopathy

October 25th, 2008 by admin

The Rise, Fall and Rise of the School of Naturopathy

Naturopathy, which is also referred to as natural medicine or naturopathic medicine, is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on using the body’s natural abilities to heal itself in order to fend off illness and maintain its health. By following a holistic approach to body care, naturopathy involves taking certain natural steps to increase the body’s natural defenses while also supporting the use of conventional medicine methods to fend off illness. The History of NaturopathyThe history of Naturopathy is long and interesting. Although many people have never heard of this form of alternative medicine, it has actually been in use since the 1880s. It was during this time that Dr. Thomas Allinson began advocating the medical practice in Scotland. Allinson promoted following a natural diet and performing regular exercise in order to improve the body’s health and to help cure illness and disease. The concept of naturopathy didn’t reach the United States until the late 1890s. At this time, the term was used by Benedict Lust, who was also schooled in other forms of natural medicine such as hydrotherapy. Lust went on to found the American School of Naturopathy in 1905, which was opened in New York. The American School of Naturopathy was the first college of its kind to be opened in the United States, but the practice of naturopathy began losing followers in the 1930s when synthetic drugs and penicillin started to be used more regularly. The rise of other forms of alternative medicine, including herbalism and homeopathy, also contributed to the downfall of naturopathy. Despite its setbacks, naturopathy continued to be practice by some alternative medicine practitioners. By 1956, a new school of naturopathy was opened in Portland, Oregon. The National College of Naturopathic Medicine, which integrated scientific methodologies along with naturopathic practices, was the first modern medical school to offer studies in naturopathy. The Principles of NaturopathyIn order to encourage the body to heal naturally, naturopathy follows seven basic principles. These include:• Do no harm to the body by providing the most effective health care possible while putting the patient at the least amount of risk• Respect and promote the body’s self-healing power• Remove all causes of illness rather than simply suppressing the symptoms• Inspire hope and encourage the patient to take responsibility for his or her health• Consider individual health influences and factors when treating a patient• Promote well being in individuals and throughout the worldAlthough modern medical practices are put to use with naturopathy, following these steps follows the least invasive method possible.A look at the history of naturopathy, including the rise and fall of the School of Naturopathy and the subsequent revival of this natural method for healing the body.

Estrogen Side Effects - Do You Know Them?

October 22nd, 2008 by admin

Estrogen side effects definitely exist, and one should understand the difference between natural estrogen and synthetic estrogen. Besides estrogen side effects from synthetic estrogens, unhealthy excess estrogen is regularly obtained from other sources which is explained here.

Estrogen side effects definitely exist, and one should understand the difference between natural estrogen and synthetic estrogen. The most commonly prescribed synthetic estrogen is Premarin, currently manufactured by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. According to the manufacturer, the most frequent estrogen side effects for Premarin are — vaginitis due to yeast or other causes, vaginal bleeding, painful menstruation and leg cramps. Wyeth also makes a Premarin vaginal cream — its most commonly reported side effects include vaginal discomfort or pain, breast pain, vaginitis and itching. The synthetic estrogen prescription drugs are not the same as natural estrogens occurring in the body. Since substances occurring naturally cannot be patented, drug companies alter the molecular structure and create a new substance that is patentable. However, the body treats synthetic drugs differently than natural substances, usually in the form of unwanted estrogen side effects. The three main estrogens occurring in the body are estradiol, estrone and estriol. Natural estrogens are identical to those occurring in the human body and are easily available in the form of estriol creams and tablets.According to Harvard-trained family physician Dr. John R. Lee in his book What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause, the estrogens tend to increase cell division in tissue that is hormone-sensitive such as breast and uterine tissue. Estradiol is about a thousand times stronger in its effect on breast tissue than is estriol. He references studies from the 1970’s that showed that overexposure to estradiol increases the risk of breast cancer.Besides estrogen side effects from synthetic estrogens, unhealthy excess estrogen is regularly obtained from other sources. Birth control pills, household chemicals and pesticides, certain foods that have been sprayed or given chemicals and many construction materials used in homes are all sources of estrogen which leads to estrogen side effects in the fema

le body. Doctors call this hormone imbalance condition of excess estrogen in the body “estrogen dominance”. What are these estrogen side effects or symptoms of estrogen dominance? The symptoms include low sex drive, bloating and weight gain, headaches before the menstrual period, mood swings, irregular periods and excessive menstrual bleeding. In the normal menstrual cycle and a healthy woman, estrogen is the dominant hormone that is produced for the first 10-12 days following the previous menstrual flow. At ovulation the female body begins producing progesterone, which happens for the next 12 days or so. If there is no pregnancy, progesterone and estrogen levels will drop at around day 28, allowing menstruation to begin. However, if there is no ovulation, progesterone will not be produced by the body that month. This event is called an annovulatory cycle, and it is a typical occurance today for women in their 30’s and 40’s - no ovulation, no progesterone. This leaves the woman with a deficiency of progesterone, an excess of estrogen and resulting estrogen side effects. And if a hysterectomy has happened, surgical menopause means the woman no longer produces progesterone, resulting in hormone imbalance. If estrogen side effects from synthetic estrogen are a problem, consider using the safer natural estrogen form which is estriol. Herbal Products for Combating Hair Loss

October 21st, 2008 by admin

Herbal remedies are probably the best for curing hair loss and all other ailments, because these natural products do not have the harsh side effects that the synthetic drugs often produce. A number of herbal products for hair loss are available that effective counter hair loss symptoms.

Saw palmetto or Serenoa repens: tinctures or extracts from this herb obstruct the receptors on cell membranes for dihydrotestosterone, the primary cause of androgenic alopecia in most patients. The formation of DHT is also prevented, by an action that is much similar to that of the FDA approved hair loss treatment medicine finasteride. Thus this product effectively promotes hair growth.

Nettle root: this herbal remedy inhibits the enzymes 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme responsible for the production of DHT, and also aromatase, the enzyme that synthesizes estrogens.

Gotu kola: herbal products formulated from this herb promote hair growth, and strengthens collagen and the blood vessels. This herbal extract purifies the blood and improves the health of the skin and hair. It stimulates blood circulation throughout the brain and the scalp, and rejuvenates the hair follicles.

Pumpkin or Cucurbita maxima: the oil extracted from the seeds of pumpkins contains the active ingredient delta-7-sterine that effectively competes with DHT and protects the prostate as well, apart from lowering levels of hair loss.
