Anti Aging Skin Care by Douglas Alp

As most of us are aware one of the major focuses in our society today is anti aging and anti aging remedies, and anything we can get our hands on to retain a youthful look.

Of course aging is inevitable but we’d all like to do so gracefully and find ways to retain of our youthful appearance and presence. There are many products to assist in this quest including many herbs and nutrients that we can use to restore and keep our healthier and more youthful looking skin. Following an anti aging skin care strategy and an overall health strategy can not only help you look better but also add years to your life.

If we look at the approach of a herbalist and use a more holistic, or whole body approach we can approach this issue by not only treating the symptom but also look at the cause. A herbalist will usually recommend herbs or the parts of plants that would treat any condition from the inside out. This same principle can be applied to problems of the skin since your skin will typically reflect the issues from within.

As we age our age skin starts loosing elasticity. We also start developing wrinkles and the skin starts to look dull and not as vibrant as it did when we were younger. Although there are many factors to contribute to this including the stress put on our skin by the sun and other factors, we can significantly reduce the signs of aging and in some cases even reversed them.

If we are paying attention to our nutritional intake we will know how essential that is to any anti aging strategy. One must realize that since we, as a society, need to product large quantities of food for the masses that commercial growing practices are not producing products to provide us all the nutrients your body needs for optimum health. That is why I believe that additional supplements are necessary to ensure adequate nutrition for your body and your skin.

There are many important nutrients that you can add to your nutritional intake that can aid in helping your skin and body look and feel better. Some of the anti-oxidants nutrients you can add to your any anti aging skin care program are Vitamins A, C, and E. These anti-oxidants, in correct proportions and sufficient quantity, will restore elasticity and give you a smoother, softer appearance to your skin. Zinc also plays an important role, in optimizing the assimilation or absorption of these nutrients.

Many of these same nutrients can be applied topically. Appling vitamin E oil topically to crows feet, your forehead, lip lines, and other problem areas for remarkable results. Because vitamin E is sticky, it is best to apply at bedtime, and will be fairly well absorbed by morning. There are also many other products that contain these other anti-oxidant that can be applied directly to the skin to keep your skin nourished and moisturized. Cocoa butter and coconut oil are also excellent anti aging moisturizer. Appling these nutrients to your skin on a daily basis will bring you wonderful results.

The other suggestion I’d make is to stay active and exercise regularly. Exercise increases your oxygen intake and improves blood flow and circulation. Theses bodily effects will have a positive effect on your health and its anti aging effects will be visible on your skin. Appling these anti aging strategy are not difficult or time consuming and in just a few minutes each day it can works wonders and end up adding to better health and better looking healthier skin.

Facial Moisturizers - Do You Need to Use These Facial Creams For Your Skin Regularly?

Facial Moisturizers - Do You Need to Use These Facial Creams For Your Skin Regularly?
by Robert Melkonyan

Most of us are always in a hurry and cannot afford to ‘waste’ time. Neglecting proper skincare is one of the worst effects of this. Many people tend to neglect and overlook the importance of proper moisturizing in their skincare routines. The result is that later on, this causes wrinkles, disturbingly dry skin and loss of skin elasticity. Using proper facial moisturizers keeps your skin looking young and healthy for many years. So it is advisable that you make moisturizing a habit. This will quench and rejuvenate your facial skin. As you age, the benefits will be more and more visible, and you will be glad you chanced upon this article and decided to pay attention to facial creams.

Before buying facial creams, always remember that you have to find the cream that best suits your skin. You may have to find different products before you determine what is best for you. If possible ask for samples at the store you buy, as some creams may cause reactions on sensitive skin, and others might not provide the right amount of moisturizer. Also, keep the sun protection factor in mind. Sun damage being one of the leading causes of wrinkles, protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun is very important. Go for facial moisturizers with an SPF of at least 15, and apply them every morning before applying makeup.

Look for the inclusion of antioxidants in your facial cream. These are molecules that prevent the oxidation (breaking down) of your skin. Antioxidants are known to slow aging and result in a more youthful appearance. Also make sure your facial cream has Vitamins A and E. They contribute to a nourished, youthful appearance by improving the overall health and elasticity of skin. These vitamins, by increasing moisture in your facial skin, make your facial moisturizer reduce the appearance of existing fine lines and wrinkles. Drink plenty of water. Drinking water, along with using facial moisturizers consistently, leaves your skin looking nourished and soft without feeling greasy. Perpetual dryness reportedly accelerates wrinkle formation. Be sure to use facial moisturizers regularly.

However, do NOT expect miracle cures from these creams. Face creams often make outlandish claims about their ability to shrink pores, peel the years away, and make you appear 10 years younger in 10 minutes. This does not happen. However, facial creams CAN make your skin look more nourished and rejuvenated over time, with proper usage.

Experiment with different products and compare results to select the best facial cream for your skin. If your skin is left feeling itchy, oily, dry, or flaky after the use of any facial moisturizers, move on and try something new. Before long, you WILL find something that will do good to your skin.

Natural Antioxidant Ingredients found in skin products control the aging process

October 27th, 2008 by admin

Natural Antioxidant Ingredients found in skin products control the aging process

Yes, it is true, antioxidant skin products can prevent premature aging. To understand how this is possible I will offer you a little background.

Free radicals are defeated by natural ingredients found in antioxidant skin products. But, what are free radicals, and how do they affect the skin? As you probably remember from your old high school days sitting in your chemistry class, atoms are formed by a nucleus, neutrons, protons, and electrons. Electrons are very important in the aging process as they react chemically, bonding atoms together to form molecules. Your skin is altered by environmental factors such as sun exposure, and when this occurs, the bonds become weak and eventually split, leaving a free, unpaired electron. Now, it takes an electron from the nearest secure molecule, turning into a free radical.

When it loses its electron, the molecule which has been attacked becomes a free radical, as it has to search for other stable molecules to steal from. This forms a chain reaction. As free radicals grab electrons from your body molecules, the molecules are left with an ‘electron hole’. These holes allow all the unwanted elements which harm our living cells. This is where antioxidants appear.

The natural skin ingredients found in antioxidant skin products protect our skin from free radicals protecting our skin from possible damage. If antioxidants aren’t available, free radical damage will build up with age, resulting in the breakdown of collagen, the aged appearance of skin and loss of skin elasticity. How are free radicals defeated? When, antioxidants are present, they end the ‘electron stealing’ chain reaction by giving an electron to the molecules that have been affected by these free radicals. Does the chain reaction carry on as antioxidants are left with one less electron? No, this does not occur with antioxidants. They don’t follow the electron stealing chain reaction because they remain stable in either form, with or without the electron.

What are the Advantages of using an Antioxidant Skin Product?

They contain Vitamin C and E. These vitamins help prevent cell and tissue damage. When applied to the skin, the antioxidant skin product helps to maintain the skin healthy and improves cell function. It also prevents sun damage which contributes to the aging of the skin. Moreover, recent studies have shown that skin products containing antioxidants have a positive effect on reducing skin irritation and inflammation. As you can see,the advantages of antioxidant skin products are numerous and invaluable as they keep your skin in good condition and vibrant, and most importantly they reduce and prevent, premature aging and wrinkles. The next time we become worried afer looking at the mirror and finding an extra wrinkle, we must remember that antioxidant skin products are essential when looking after our skin, especially the prevention of premature aging.

Important Information about Face Lift Surgery

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the largest organization of board-certified plastic surgeons in the world, eleven million plastic surgeries were conducted in the United States in the year 2006. Statistics also suggest that increasing numbers of people over the age of 50 are seeking cosmetic surgery to improve their appearance. The skin wrinkles and sags as a result of normal aging, sun exposure or genetics. The face lift procedure is ideal for those with prominent wrinkles who are in good health and want to regain their youthful and beautiful appearance. The face lift procedure often improves the patient’s self-esteem and confidence, helping them to enjoy more satisfying social and professional relationships. Rhytidectomy or face lift surgery, as it is better known, does not stop the aging process. It does however restore a younger and fresher looking facial appearance that can turn back the clock ten or more years. The face lift procedure tightens the skin and the underlying muscles of the face and removes excess fat, producing a total facial rejuvenation. The face lift procedure can be done alone or in combination with other procedures such as eyelid surgery, forehead lift, or nose reshaping. A face lift is an out-patient procedure performed in a day-surgery center under general anesthesia where the patient is put to sleep. The procedure itself may take several hours and longer if other procedures are performed at the same time. The results of a face lift can be dramatic and generally last about ten years.Who is a Suitable Candidate? • Men and women with sagging skin in the face and neck • People with excessive skin in the neck and/or a drooping jaw line.• Those who have good skin elasticity which will aid in healing and improve results. • Those with a well-defined bone structure for providing support. • Patients should be in overall good health as this will facilitate proper healing and recovery. Precautions prior to surgery• Patients who smoke are advised to stop prior to surgery. Smoking restricts the flow of blood which can impede the healing process. • Blood thinners like ibuprofen, vitamin E and aspirin should be avoided weeks before the surgery. • Hair should be washed thoroughly the day before face lift surgery.• Alcohol should be avoided.• Patients should get a good night sleep prior to their procedure. The Face Lift ProcedureThe cosmetic surgeon makes an incision above the hairline and then separates the facial skin from the underlying tissue. Excess fat is removed and surrounding muscles are tightened to improve the facial contours. The skin is then elevated to achieve a more youthful look. The treated area is then wrapped in bandages. The training and experience of the plastic surgeon performing the face lift procedure directly influences the success of the surgery. The experience and credentials of the surgeon is directly related to the outcome. Patients are advised to choose experienced, board certified cosmetic surgeons as this assures an acceptable level of competency, experience and training. Many people are choosing Naples Florida as an ideal destination for their face lift procedure. Sunny Florida in a tropical setting along the Gulf Coast is a comfortable, beautiful and serene location for convalescence. There are many great choices for cosmetic surgeons in Naples, Florida.

Aging Consequences for your Skin

October 27th, 2008 by admin

Aging Consequences for your Skin

The changes that occur as we get older are both in appearance and in how we function. However, aging is not a process that occurs at the same rate in all people, although all of us do age. The part of aging that occurs just because we are older is named intrinsic. An example of an intrinsic aging that occurs in the tissue itself is the graying of hair. Hormonal changes, like the change in the secretion of sebum in the skin, occurs because of reduced production of androgen hormones elsewhere in the body.

But there are several characteristics of the aging process that are the result of external or extrinsic factors. Prevention is avoiding these extrinsic factors that may increase the aging process. And, of course, there are some treatments that we can have done, which will improve appearance.

Aging of the skin is named atrophy by doctors. Visual and microscopic alterations appear with a lessening in the connective cells of the skin. Skin seems rougher, finely wrinkled, soft, and dry. The deeper layer of the skin, the dermis, becomes thinner. Veins and other structures in the skin can appear much more evident because of this change. Small, red blood vessels can show in numbers. The skin can bruise easily, look fragile, and doesn’t heal as readily. The skin has less elasticity, and is less firm, with sagging.

The color or pigmentation of the skin changes as we age. Discolorations appear as darker pigmented patches, on back, chest, hands, face, and legs. Studies have demonstrated that over 50% of population over the age of 45 have these spots. And studies done in heavily pigmented people show that pigmentation increases with age in sun-exposed skin and afflicts men more than women.

Other Consequences of Aging

Sebum production in the skin is reduced, as do underarm secretions, resulting in less odor. Normal sweating in the rest of the skin also decreases. Nail growth begins to decrease early, after the age of 25. The sense of touch decreases, and this can result in an elevation in the ability to bear pain. The immune system is less responsive, resulting in greater danger of chronic skin infection.

Prevention

At least for skin alterations, retarding the aging process can be achieved by avoiding solar exposure and applying sun blocks. This process will also decrease the likelihood of acquiring a sun-related skin cancer. Importantly, smoking is as damaging to skin as the sun is. Smokers face a five-fold (500%) greater risk of skin problems at any given age than do non-smokers. Smoking cessation is thus a crucial part of looking younger.

Treatments

There are several treatments for wrinkled and sun-damaged skin. These include botox injections, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, implants, laser skin resurfacing, face-lifts and other types of plastic surgery, and others.
