Arthritis Pain

Arthritis Pain

What is Arthritis? Arthritis literally means %26quot;joint inflammation%26quot; and can affect joints in any part of the body. A joint is where two or more bones come together such as the knee, shoulder or wrist. Healthy joints are covered with a sponge-like material known as cartilage. The joint itself is enclosed in synovium, a sturdy sheath that produces synovial fluid that assists the cartilage in limiting friction between the bones. A joint that is affected by arthritis will become inflamed which causes symptoms that range from mild pain, swelling, redness, heat, stiffness, and severe joint pain that may make it difficult to move. Arthritis is a general term for a group of more than 100 diseases associated with joint inflammation. The three most common kinds of arthritis include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout. Arthritis is one of the most common diseases in the United States and affects at least 80 million Americans, half of whom are age 65 and older. Arthritis is often a chronic disease, meaning it can affect the person afflicted over a long period of time. Arthritis cannot be cured, but the symptoms can be treated through a variety of joint pain products and methods. Types of Arthritis Although there are more than 100 different diseases associated with the term arthritis, the three most common are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. It mostly affects the cartilage, the tissue that covers the ends of the bones within a joint to create a cushion between the bones. Over time, or because of disease, the cartilage may begin to wear out or decay; in some extreme cases, all the cartilage can be worn out leaving nothing to keep the bones within the joint from rubbing against each other. This friction often leads to pain and swelling, and in some cases disability. Although osteoarthritis can occur in any joint, it most often affects the large weight-bearing joints such as knees, hips, and feet, as well as the hands, low back (spinal facet joints) and neck. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease that not only affects joints in any part of the body, but may also attack tissue in the skin, lungs, eyes, and blood vessels. Classified as an autoimmune disease, the immune system of a person with rheumatoid arthritis mistakenly turns against the person’s body and starts attacking the joints, which leads to swelling in the joint lining. In addition to the usual symptoms associated with arthritis such as pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of function in the joints, a person with rheumatoid arthritis may feel tired and be feverish. Rheumatoid arthritis generally affects the person in a symmetrical pattern, meaning if the left knee is involved, the right one will be affected too. Gout is one of the most painful rheumatic conditions and often begins with a sudden onset of intense pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints, which may also be warm to the touch and red. Gout is brought on when the body cannot eliminate a naturally occurring substance called uric acid. Before an attack, uric acid in the form of needle-like crystals, build up in the connective tissue in the joint. This deposit leads to inflammation of the joint. Gout is often triggered by stressful events, alcohol or drugs, or the presence of another illness, and frequently affects joints in the lower part of the body including knees, heels, ankles, or toes. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Information and Prevention

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful progressive condition caused by the compression of a key nerve in the wrist. Carpal tunnel syndrome is characterized by numbness, tingling, pain and weakness. The carpal tunnel is caused by increased pressure on a nerve in the hand entering the confined space carpal tunnel. There are many causes of carpal tunnel include heredity, the reverse use over time, hormonal changes associated with pregnancy and menopause and medical conditions, including diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and of the thyroid gland imbalance. It can occur at any age, but it tends to affect those in their 40s and 50s.This condition is more common in women than in men. Many people with carpal tunnel syndrome have gradually symptoms increasingly over time. Carpal tunnel syndrome typically begins gradually to a vague pain in the wrist which can be extended to your hand or forearm. The first symptoms of CTS include numbness and paresthesia in the fingers, especially the thumb. Symptoms usually start gradually, with pain, weakness, or numbness in the hand and wrist, radiating up the arm. As symptoms worsen, people might feel tingling during the day, and decreased grip strength may make it difficult to form a fist, grasp small objects. Several types of drugs have been used in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or naproxen. Corticosteroid injections, given in the area of the carpal tunnel, it may provide relief spectacular symptoms.Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) has been reported to relieve some symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Corticosteroids may be administered by mouth or injected directly into the affected joint wrist. Physiotherapy provides several ways to treat and monitor carpal tunnel syndrome. Many of prevention is also useful for you. Losing weight if you are overweight.Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment and Prevention Tips 1. Cool (ice) packs and prednisone or lidocaine can relieve swelling.2. Corticosteroids can be given directly into the involved wrist joint.3. Ultrasound treatment can relieve symptoms in some people.4. Surgery may be required if the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome persist.5. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, ibuprofen may ease pain. 6. Exercises can reduce the risk of a double crush of the median nerve.7. Mecobalamin/Methylcobalamin has been helpful in some cases of CTS. 8. Frequently Asked Questions Q. Who needs to take Omega-3 Supplements? A. Everyone Q. At what age should I start taking Omega-3? A. Before you’re born (in utero) up until you’re 99 Q. Who says? A. The World Health Organization, the American Medical Association, the American Heart Association, the American Rheumatologic Association %26 others Q. Why do I need Omega -3? A. The body cannot manufacture omega-3. The average American diet is overly rich in Omega-6 which in excessive quantities, is actually toxic to your body. Q. Why can’t I just eat more fish? A. Most fish contain impurities that are bad for you. It would be nearly impossible to eat enough fish to equal the amount of EPA %26 DHA found in a pure, high potency Omega 3 product. Q. What impurities are there in fish? A. Toxins such as Mercury, Lead, PCB’s, dioxin, just to name a few. Q. Don’t all Omega-3 products contain lots of impurities? A. Most low end, inexpensive Omega-3 products and some not so inexpensive OTC products do. Q. Which Omega-3 products don’t? A. There are a few on the market of high quality. See end of article. Q. Isn’t flaxseed oil an alternative for Omega-3 derived from fish sources? A. No, definitely not. Flaxseed oil contains ALA which is converted poorly, slowly and inefficiently into Omega-3 and therefore is a poor substitute for marine derived Omega-3. Most importantly, the Human Brain, which is 60% fat, depends on the form of Omega-3 which is only derived from Fish Sources and not from plant sources which contain ALA. Q. How much Winomeg-3 should I take daily? A. Look for a product that offers 1000-1100 mg of EPA %26 300-400 mg of DHA %26 a small amount of Omega 6 50-60 mg. The ration of EPA to DHA should be 3-4 to 1. Take at least 2-3 per day, but there is no maximum dose (see below). Q. I take prescription medications. Are there any medications that react with Omega-3? A. Overall you may take Omega-3 supplements with any other prescription %26 non-prescription medications. The only possible precaution is if you are taking an anticoagulant such as Coumadin® you should talk with your health care provider. Q. How is it possible that Omega-3 can be so beneficial for all of these different conditions? A. Omega 3 is an essential component of all of the cells in your body and the reason why it has all of these beneficial effects is that all of the walls of the cells in your body, are made up of polyunsaturated long chain fatty acids (Omega-3). Q. What are EPA %26 DHA in regard to Omega-3. A. DHA %26 EPA are both members of the Omega-3 long chain, polyunsaturated fatty acid family of compounds. EPA is responsible for maintaining healthy eye, retina, cardiovascular health and is responsible for the anti-inflammatory properties of Omega-3. EPA also helps regulate hormonal function and balance, immune system function, nervous system health, helps lower triglycerides and cholesterol and prostaglandins. EPA may be the more potent and important of the two main components of Omega-3, although DHA is one of the main building blocks of the Brain and the Retina, which is why it is so extremely important to the developing fetus. . Q. What are the side effects of Omega-3? A. There are no known side effects of this natural product. The Inuit (Eskimos) of all ages, ingest on average up to 19 grams of Omega-3 a day and have no adverse side effects from this dosage. This is equal to over 12 Omega 3 capsules per day. Q. What criteria should I look for in an Omega-3 product? A. The following is a list of the characteristics you should look for: 1. Pharmaceutical Grade 2. Produced in a Licensed Pharmaceutical Facility 3. Produced under the highest standards of purity that go far beyond those set by various European %26 American governing bodies. 4. Licensed by the FDA to be able to produce Pharmaceutical Grade Prescription strength Omega-3 5. Produced from exceptional raw materials consisting only of arctic cold water non-predatory fish (anchovies, herring %26 sardines) naturally high in the Omega-3 fatty acids, EPA %26 DHA, harvested from cold arctic waters and very low in environmental pollutants. 6. Exceptional Purity. 85-88% pure. All known pollutants are reduced below detectable levels 7. Highly concentrated. minimizes the number of gel caps you have to take on a daily basis 8. High EPA to DHA Ratio. It has been scientifically determined that the EPA to DHA ratio should be at least 3-4 to 1 9. Low amounts of Omega 6. Omega 6 is a needed and necessary ingredient in normal diets. However, the amount should be very small compared to Omega 3. 10. Molecular Distillation. The best omega 3 products are all processed under molecular distillation, an expensive %26 time consuming process. 11. Exceptional Freshness. No fishy smell when you open the bottle, or fishy aftertaste (no “fish burps”) because the product is Oxygen Free (because it is encapsulated under Nitrogen). Oxidized fish oil should not be ingested due to rancidity, spoilage and loss of potency. 12. Cholesterol Free, Triglyceride Free %26 Saturated Fat Free. Other commonly found omega 3 products contain all three of these harmful elements and are definitely not recommended for human consumption. Q. Where can I find an Omega-3 product that meets these strict criteria? A. There are a few reputable (and many not so reputable) companies. We would advise you to check out this excellent Omega 3 at RoblinWellnessToday.com and type in the Preferred Customer Code…Wellness2440. To Your Good Health!

Bio-Identical Hormone Safety Controversy: Suzanne Somers vs. The Establishment by Michael E. Platt, M.D.

October 29th, 2008 by admin

Suzanne Somers has single-handedly aroused world-wide interest in bio-identical hormone therapy – this is good.

She has made women and men aware that they have to be proactive about their health – in other words, take responsibility – this is good.

However, the specific recommendations that she is championing with regard to hormone replacement is not only ill-advised, it may actually be dangerous. She is a strong advocate of the hormone estrogen – which is fairly ironic since this is the hormone that gave her breast cancer, contributed to her life-long battle with weight (it is lipogenic, i.e. it causes fat to be deposited around the hips, thighs, buttocks, breasts, etc.), and recently caused her to undergo a gynecological procedure for uncontrollable bleeding.

When advising women to take high dosages of a toxic hormone it is important to give them the entire picture. Estrogen is known to cause six different cancers, it predisposes to strokes, heart attacks, and pulmonary emboli (it is contraindicated in coronary artery disease), it is the hormone that causes menstrual symptoms, such as cramps, PMS, breast tenderness, and migraine headaches, it can cause gallbladder disease, asthma, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, and causes nausea during pregnancy.

Nature is a lot smarter than we are – it allows estrogen levels to diminish at a certain time in a woman’s life when procreation is not necessary. I suspect nature recognizes that estrogen is not a safe hormone which is another reason the levels are decreased.

Women, and their doctors, should be aware that women never stop making estrogen, so very often it is not necessary to be replaced except in specific instances (i.e. vaginal dryness, low body fat (because estrogen is produced primarily in fatty tissue, etc).

From a bio-identical hormone replacement standpoint, progesterone is the only hormone that has to be replaced. Prior to the menopause, this hormone prevents or eliminates all the downsides to estrogen. Ms. Somers was on birth control pills for 21 years which meant she did not ovulate for 21 years, which means she was without progesterone for 21 years. The progestins in B.C. pills are not progesterone – they are synthetic and are as dangerous as the estrogen in B.C. pills.

After stopping B.C. pills it is my understanding that Ms. Somers was on extremely high levels of estradiol, the strongest estrogen – no wonder she got breast cancer. I am confused why she feels it necessary to surround herself only with hormone doctors that recommend estrogen.

The purpose of this article is not to criticize Ms. Somers – I am extremely grateful that her activities brought BHRT out of the closet. I would simply recommend that she speak to doctors that may have a different viewpoint.

In her latest book called Ageless, she is now recommending human growth hormone (HGH) therapy to her readers. She states her IGF-1 levels were low which is why she started on this therapy. Perhaps one of her hormone specialists should have pointed out that estrogen lowers IGF-1 levels. She might be interested in the fact that IGF-1 is a hormone that speeds up aging – it is not an anti-aging hormone. People should also be aware that it is illegal to give this hormone for anti-aging purposes; it is only allowable for documented growth hormone deficiencies.

Let me now address some of the critics of Suzanne Somers. They claim that bio-identical hormones are not FDA approved. Wrong. All compounded hormones put out by compound pharmacies are FDA approved. Upjohn Pharmaceuticals was producing FDA approved bio-identical hormones 70 years ago (and most physicians are still not aware of them).

Critics say that it is better to go with known medications such as Premarin, which are “safer”. In point of fact, all estrogens (except bio-identical estriol) are unsafe. The first 10 years Premarin was on the market, they estimate somewhere between 200,000 and 2,000,000 women got uterine cancer.

Bio-identical hormone therapy, although in existence for 70 years, is still in its infancy. Ms. Somers is in the position of receiving the kind of ridicule that Semmelweiss and Lister received a hundred years ago when they suggested that doctors should wash their hands prior to surgery. I salute her for her courage. I would recommend that she educate herself about hormones. They are extremely potent chemicals and must be used in a safe, logical manner.

Eventually, she may get to the full realization of the potential bio-identical hormones have for healing. They control every system of the body and are major determinants of our health. A person should not be waiting for the menopause or andropause to get their hormones in balance.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Medications by Philip Maltwood - ArticleCity.com

October 29th, 2008 by admin

There is an array of prescribed arthritis medications which doctors can provide to treat rheumatoid arthritis. While these arthritis medications may not provide a cure for, they can bring pain relief, alleviate symptoms, and even slow down the development of rheumatoid arthritis.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can reduce pain and assist with inflammation. These drugs may be used as an arthritis medicine and can be purchased over the counter and via. (Most everyone is familiar with aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium.) The only negative issue with these arthritis medications is they can lead to stomach problems, such as indigestion and bleeding. They can also raise blood pressure in a person and make them prone to fluid retention.

COX-2 inhibitors are a kind of Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which result in less issues with the stomach. This class of arthritis medication works by suppressing an enzyme called cyclooxygenase which is involved in inflammation. However, fluid retention and raised blood pressure are side effects of COX-2 inhibitors. Reports are also coming in that those who take this class of drug may be at higher risk of a stroke or heart attack.

Corticosteroids are arthritis medications which are able to lessen pain and reduce inflammation. They can also slow down the damage to joints brought on by rheumatoid arthritis. In fact, many arthritis patients who take corticosteroids have claimed that they feel substantially improved. However, after a period of time the effectiveness of corticosteroids may wear off. There is also the possibility of suffering significant side effects such as diabetes, weight gain, and decreased bone density, after continued use of corticosteroids.

It is crucial to see a doctor at the earliest signs of rheumatoid arthritis. While modern medicine has not been able to provide a cure for arthritis, they are making strides in pain relief and reducing the pace of rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. Immunosuppressants can be used as an arthritis medication to help control the immune system. Without such treatment, the immune system in rheumatoid arthritis patients is out of balance and it is not in control. TNF blockers are sometimes given in tandem with an immunosuppressant. TNF blockers serve to block the protein which inflames the joints. People who use TNF blockers have reported that pain was lower and stiffness alleviated.

Those diagnosed promptly with rheumatoid arthritis can be prescribed arthritis medications referred to as disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs. These drugs slow down the development of rheumatoid arthritis. So, if the arthritis is caught early, a good deal of damage to the joints can be avoided.

What Is "Water On The Knee"?

October 29th, 2008 by admin

What Is %26quot;Water On The Knee%26quot;?

We are sure you may be wondering what this term means, although you have heard it before…The term “water on the knee” is a generic term that describes the accumulation of excess fluid (edema) in or around the knee joint. As a result of a trauma, overuse, or other underlying conditions or disease, water on the knee may exist.Often times, when a person has water on the knee, the underlying condition is arthritis. The term arthritis means “joint inflammation”. People also refer to arthritis as being “joint pain” as well. The two most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis (OA), which effects over 27 million people a year (mostly women), while rheumatoid arthritis (RA) effects over two million adults. Most of them being women over the age of 45. Although these two types of arthritis effect millions of people, and are the two most common types of arthritis, there are over 100 different types of arthritis. When an individual has water on the knee, pain relief can occur when the fluid is removed from the joint. Pain relief can be subsided when this fluid returns. Please see your physician regarding this procedure. You also may have “water on the knee” due a traumatic injury. Fluid or blood can accumulate in the knee joint as a result of a meniscus tear or ligament injury. Moreover, when an individual suffers an ACL tear, they may have also torn small blood vessels which can cause fluid to accumulate in and around their knee joint. Prepatellar bursitis can also cause water on the knee.To avoid having water on the knees, individuals should consider seeing their physician on a regular basis, to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is also important to make sure individuals are avoiding activities that result in physical contact with their knees. Pain medications, such as Acetaminophen, can help to reduce swelling (see your physician before taking medications). Weight management can also take the stress off of your joints, which could result in water on the knees. Ice and elevation of your legs can also help to reduce the fluid build up.If you have irritating pain or instability in your knee, and want to do something about it, you should consider these aforementioned options; they can be of service to you. Moreover, the use of a low profile knee brace will help increase your knee stability and decrease pain. These knee braces can be worn during exercise or activities of daily living to provide the meaningful support you need.

Wound Healing: Bed Sores, Lesions, Pressure Sores, Ulcers - Treatment with Medical Intuition & Distant Healing by Brent Atwater

October 29th, 2008 by admin

Wound Healing: Bed Sores, Lesions, Pressure Sores, Ulcers - Treatment with Medical Intuition %26 Distant Healing

Bed sores, lesions, pressure sores, chronic wounds, ulcers and abscesses are nasty looking, a real problem to deal with, and at times quite painful for their owner. Wound management is a traditional medical specialty unto itself. Alternative healing modalities and techniques are now being researched in clinical trials to assist and amplify traditional care.

There are many reasons for non-healing wounds, some are the result of medical conditions. Many diabetics fear and eventually undergo surgical amputation. Bed ridden patients in nursing home or assisted living facilities develop bed sores that can facilitate their demise. Paraplegics and quadriplegics develop localized pressure sores that can instigate life-threatening infections. Situations that impede circulation such as complications following surgery, congestive heart failure, rheumatoid arthritis, peripheral ulcers, vascular disease, and traumatic injury help cause wounds. Additionally edema, systemic problems and infection impair normal healing. Most wound programs combine traditional medical and surgical care in addition to advanced wound care technologies including but not limited to dressing materials of bioengineered tissue and hyperbaric medicine. Alternative medicine processes and treatments offer a different approach.

While initially evaluating a wound, as a medical intuitive and “human MRI”, I look at the 360 degree view of the traumatized area. Failing to “see” the entire wound and all contributing factors can sabotage healing. Assess the physical body’s systems and the energy systems that contribute to the current wound. Start your intuitive examination from the inner core and work your way out to the surface area of the open wound. Example- Start with the molecular structure of each cell, then the cellular clusters, and finally tissue groups. Next evaluate the infection and blood counts, the blood supply to the deteriorated area, and the blood’s oxygen delivery to that wound. Investigate the functions the wounded area contributes to the body and the body’s entire immune system, and the immune systems response to the wound area.

Last but not least, evaluate the client’s mental, emotional and spiritual states that affect and effect the entire body. Also address and correct the environmental factors such as lack of individual care or attention. Remove medications that hinder healing. Check with your physician about the interactions of various prescriptions. Clients that smoke should be required to stop during wound rehabilitation.

To begin healing the wound, as an alternative medical specialist, I use distant energy healing in addition to and during the physician’s treatment and procedures to reorganize the molecular structure of each damaged cell. First I direct electromagnetic energy to the molecules of the cells. This stimulates the cells to restructure themselves and to regenerate healthy new cells. This concept is called returning to the original healthy cellular blueprint. One of the originator’s of this concept was Dr Bob Becker in his book “The Body Electric”. He also established the fact that when stimulated with electromagnetic energy, a cell would regenerate.

Then the blood cells must be directed to remove toxins and to reestablish healthy blood counts. This process will eventually remove infection in the wound. Repairing the damaged vascular system is next. The broken vessels must be sealed to prevent excess bleeding, weepage and further contamination and infection. Once accomplished, a healthy blood flow must be established to nourish and support regenerating cells and to implement oxygenation to the area.

Since inadequate oxygen supply to the damaged tissue impedes healing, focus the energy on raising the oxygen levels of the client. This will support the repairing cells and help develop and rebuild a healthy tissue network. In traditional medicine, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is one of the newest technologies to aid wound care. This therapy increases the level of oxygen delivered to the tissues and augments wound-healing repair.

For the immune system to stabilize and contribute to health, direct the energy healing to amplify the immune system’s work on the entire body and on the wound area, two separate issues.

Now that you have built a healthy foundation in the core of the wound, work on the tissue areas and the outer edges of the wound in increments. This reduces the size of the open wound, adds healthy supportive periphery tissue around the traumatized and damaged area, and provides clinical evidence that the wound is reducing. You do not want to knit together and seal over a wound that is not healed at its base, that mistake could exacerbate further deterioration.

It’s best to approach wound healing in an organized fashion; system-by-system, inch by healed inch, from the inner core to the outside. Trying to heal the entire wound all at once puts too much stress on the body’s energy system and the cellular recalibration, and usually misses important ingredients in the entire healing recipe. It is also important to work intermittently on the wound, so the body will not be overstressed, and each system can reestablish itself independent of the others. This plan will manifest a stronger and more rapid healing response, have less periodic reversals, and maintain the integretity of the healed area.

Although addressing physical problems is a major concern, I believe involving patients in their treatment with positive mind over matter actions, attitudes and affirmations is imperative. In deciding right now, this very minute, to address and make positive free will choices to change your mind’s attitude about your wound care, and to command your cells to assist in your healing, immediately helps facilitate the healing process. Patient contribution to their own care adds the mind over matter i.e. biofeedback dimension to the healing process and is crucial to long-term improvements. A favorite alternative medicine for your mind is the book “Positive Attitudes, Actions, and Affirmations for Overcoming Your Health Challenges”. The self-help section of your local bookstore has many helpful holistic mind body resources.

It has been proven that positive attitude creates a greater immune system response that in turn helps diminish symptoms. It stands to reason that premise should also hold true in wound management. It’s the old adage of YOUR mind over YOUR matter. Your cells are here to house your life force energy called your Soul. You are the commander of your cells, i.e. your body, and YOU are the superintendent of your building i.e. your body, so how you handle your maintenance is all part of the healing journey. Having a “can do” attitude directs your cellular structure to do just that, assist in healing itself.

Holistic health care is complementary to traditional medicine. Alternative medicine-medical intuition and distant healing integrates with and can be used during allopathic procedures and treatments. The combination of all types of healing modalities, technologies and whole body therapies gives the patient more healing options and a sense of participation and control over their healing, resulting in a better quality of life and sense of well being, thereby providing the most rewarding and effective healing journey.

The Best Alternative Arthritis Pain Reliever For You by Dean Iggo

October 29th, 2008 by admin

If you are fed up with your current arthritis medications, you may be looking for an alternative arthritis pain reliever. Because you need something that will ease your suffering and provide you relief from your incessant symptoms, you may need something that will speed the healing from this horrible health condition. That is something the current drug industry just cannot offer you, no matter how hard they try. The best bet at this point is to find an alternative arthritis pain reliever.

Many different quacks out there claim that they can give you a cure to help you deal with your rheumatoid arthritis or your osteoarthritis. The unfortunate truth, though, is that they just want to sell you a product so they can line their pockets with more money. You need a product that really works. You need something that has gone through drug trials and had research studies completed about it. You need something that will make a difference when you get out of bed each morning. You need honey bee venom treatments.

What Are Honey Bee Venom Treatments?

In countries that respect alternative medications, including alternative arthritis pain relievers, honey bee venom therapy has been used for years to treat lots of different conditions, including many forms of arthritis. At one time, it involved the process of placing an actual bee near the inflamed joint and having it sting the patient. Luckily now, though, the patient can just be injected with purified bee venom in the problem area. This alternative arthritis pain reliever contains phospholipase A and melittin which seems to stop the inflammation of most joints. Septic Arthritis - Learn More About Septic Arthritis
by Bertil Hjert

Septic arthritis can be referred to as a type of infection. It is usually a viral infection inside the joint cavity. Septic arthritis is known to be the most dangerous form of acute arthritis.

The joint cavity is a sterile space. It contains synovial fluid and a lot of cellular matter such as some of the few white blood cells.

The condition is caused in the joint cavity due to the attack of infectious agents that produces arthritis. The bacteria is carried out by the blood stream from an infectious site introduced by a skin lesion that penetrates joint.

Septic Arthritis is also known widely as pyogenic arthritis or infectious arthritis. It is a very serious type of infection of the joint. The medical condition is usually considered as a medical emergency as it has the potential to damage the cartilage and bone. It can also create septic shock which is a fatal condition.

This disease can strike at any age group. Even infants and children can affect from it. The weight bearing joints including knee is affected in adults. In children, the same disease is caused in hips, shoulders and knees.

Here are some of the risk factors associated to septic arthritis:

A) Patients with

a) Chronic rheumatoid arthritis

b) Systematic infections

c) Cancer

d) Diabetes

e) Sickle cell anemia

f) Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

g) Type IV drug abuses

h) Type IV Alcoholics

i) Recent joint injury or surgery

j) Receiving medicated infections directly to the joint

k) Male homosexuals and female homosexuals

There are several causes of the disease. It tends to occur only when a certain type of infecting organism, mainly bacteria reaches a joint. The bacteria can easily get in to a joint via the blood stream or the surgery. An injury or injection directly to the joint can also contaminate the joint.

B) There are several symptoms. Here are some of the major signs.

a) Severe pain

b) Swelling in the affected joint with acute pain

c) Chills, Fever

d) Pain in the join area

e) Inability to walk, Loss of function in the joints

The doctor will diagnose septic arthritis based on the symptoms. He will carefully check the medical history of the patient and conduct a complete physical examination. A synovial fluid and blood test is also necessary.

Once the area is numbed, the doctor will withdraw a sample of synovial fluid from the affected joint. The fluid is thereafter tested for white blood cells, bacteria and other organisms.

The condition can be improved if diagnosed quickly and the treatment is started soon.

One may also do a lot of things to prevent this condition from occurring such as visiting doctor on a regular basis and getting adept treatment as soon as the condition is diagnosed.

Remember that immediate treatment is necessary in case of septic arthritis to make sure that adept treatment is provided.

Complete Information on Autoimmune Inner Ear disease with Treatment and Prevention

Autoimmune inner ear disease (AIED) is an incendiary circumstance of the inner ear. The reason of AIED is mostly assumed to be related to either antibodies or exempt cells that induce harm to the inner ear. There is evidence that genetically controlled aspects of the immune system may increase or otherwise be associated with increased susceptibility to common hearing disorders such as menieres disease. It seems that allergies can cause or at least are associated with autoimmune inner ear disease. Observation suggests there is a genetic component as autoimmune diseases seem to cluster in families. Interestingly, this trait may show up as several different autoimmune diseases within the same family. However, this genetic predisposition alone does not cause autoimmune diseases to develop. Other factors need to be present as well in order to initiate the disease process.Autoimmune inner ear disease is a rare disease occurring in less than one percent of the 28 million Americans with a hearing loss. Both allergy and traditional autoimmune disease such as ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjoegren’s syndrome, cogan’s disease, ulcerative colitis, wegener’s granulomatosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and scleroderma can cause or be associated with AIED. The condition has been suggested to be more common in female patients who may or may not have concomitant systemic autoimmune disease than in male patients. Autoimmunity occurs with loss of homeostatic control in the immune system. Host tissues become recognized as foreign and induce damaging vasculitis and fibrosis. Veldman described a continuum of autoimmunity. On one end, organ specific responses with organ specific autoantibodies and T cells produce tissue alteration. The symptoms of autoimmune inner ear disease are abrupt hearing departure in one ear progressing quickly to the second ear. The hearing departure can advance over weeks or months. Vestibular role may be lost gradually so that intense symptoms do not happen, but patients may produce ataxia and unsteadiness more evident in dark with long-term, multilateral vestibular hypofunction. More experience with the disease has revealed this to be a rare finding and it is not considered a routine occurrence in the syndrome. Outer Ear symptoms that may be attributed to allergy include chronic itching or frequent infections of the ear canal. Meniere’s disease in one or both ears may sometimes be aggravated by allergies. Diagnosis of autoimmune inner ear disease is difficult and is often mistaken for otitis media until the patient develops a loss in the second ear. There are several protocols for treatment of autoimmune inner ear disease. Treatment goals in autoimmune inner ear disease include improving speech thresholds to levels treatable with hearing aids in severely affected patients and recovery of hearing to near normal levels in those with mild to moderate losses. Most patients with autoimmune inner ear disease respond to the initial treatment of steroids, prednisone, and methotrexate, a chemotherapy agent. Some patients may benefit from the use of hearing aids. In persons with response to steroids, in most cases a chemotherapy type of medication such as cytoxan or will be used over the long term. The medicine can be put right into the inner ear under local anesthesia, or through the use of tiny ear tubes put in place surgically. Not all people respond to steroid therapy the same way. Treatment in some people results in better hearing, or better discrimination or both.
