Bleeding scaling along with crusting is also seen in some cases. People with dry skin are more prone to suffer from eczema. Extreme dryness can irritate the skin further thus elevating the itching of the skin. However the scratching the skin may not give long-term relief .On the contrary it might further result into puncturing of the patches thus letting the liquid to ooze out and spread the infection. The reoccurrence is mainly because the patches did not heal up properly or because of the discontinuation of the medicines. People with dry and sensitive skin are more prone to the outburst of eczema throughout their lives. It is a chronic disease that affects the outer layer of the skin and not a contagious disease. It is often hereditary and is often accompanied by other allergies. The eruptions of this disorder can be controlled by maintaining clean hygienic habits. It is necessary to keep the skin lubricated fore the reoccurrence of this disorder. There is no cure for this disease but various treatments are available which can bring the condition under control. Lack Of Essential Fats In The Diet Can Kill

Lack Of Essential Fats In The Diet Can Kill

A lot of talk has been generated over the past several years about fats. Are they good? Bad? Should fats be eliminated from our diets altogether? While this was once a common notion, it is now widely understood that not all fats are created equal. There are ones to avoid (like trans-fats), and ones to embrace, like essential fatty acids.Essential fatty acids, or EFA’s for short, are exactly what their name implies: an essential part of every person’s diet. Unfortunately, these so-called “good fats” are usually the ones most lacking in most people’s diets. Part of the problem lies within the fact that EFA’s cannot be constructed within the body from other components. Instead, they must be consumed directly from foods which contain them. Herein lies another problem: many foods which are commonly found in North American diets do not contain significant amounts of EFA’s. Essential fatty acids are critical to the healthy formation of cell membranes. In fetuses, they are necessary components of brain and nervous system development. In adults, they help to maintain heart health and control hormonal levels. Without adequate intake of essential fatty acids, humans are at risk for high blood pressure, poor blood circulation and consistency, and immune system disorders.Essential fatty acids, which consist of Omega-3 and Omega-6, are found largely in fish. They are also found in plant-based sources such as flaxseed, soybeans, certain nuts, berries, and vegetables, and in leafy green vegetables like broccoli, kale and hemp. North Americans often do not take in enough of these types of foods to garner even the minimum daily requirement of EFA’s. This should also be reconciled with the fact that much of the North American diet consists of processed foods. When foods are processed, it strips them of many of their natural nutrients. In other words, eating a fast-food fish sandwich is not the same as consuming a fresh trout steak.Incorporating more essential fatty acids into your diet may not be as difficult as you think. You don’t need to make any radical changes. By simply adding to, or being creative with, your current diet, you can probably get all the essential fatty acids that you need. Some easy ways to do this include (but are not limited to):* Staying away from processed foods. Stick to fresh or fresh-to-frozen foods for maximum benefits.* Adding walnuts, which are high in EFA’s (especially Omega-6) to salads, baking, and breakfast cereals. Or, simply pop a handful of walnuts for a nutritious snack.* Cooking with ground flaxseed. It can be sprinkled on cereal or toast with ease. It can also be added to batter and dough of home-baking. It can even be dashed into soups and sauces. Because it is so finely ground, it’s texture will be barely noticeable. It will also add a slightly nutty flavor to your food. A little flaxseed goes a long way!* Trying to incorporate fresh fish into your diet. Strive for at least once per week, though health professionals and nutritionists recommend two times weekly. If your family turns its nose up at fish, experiment with different recipes. Tuna fish sandwiches are also a good source of EFA’s.* Eating more berries. Instead of an apple, try a handful of fresh blueberries for a snack once or twice a week.* Serving salad with every dinner. Try to look for dark salad greens (like kale and spinach). Iceberg lettuce does not contain significant amounts of EFA’s.* Getting creative with tofu. Even if you don’t like to eat it straight up, you can mix it into other dishes. In its soft form, it can be used to form the base for salad dressings and even desserts like cheesecake. * When cooking with oil, opt for canola, walnut, flaxseed, or soy oils, which are a good source of EFA’s.These are not radical changes, but are uncomplicated ways to increase your intake of those important fats. Changes in lifestyle can be difficult for some so there are omega-3 and omega-6 supplements available as well. With time, you’ll probably notice an increase in your energy level and better immunity against illness. EFA’s are fats that you can feel good about eating and the benefits will last a lifetime.

Cellulite – the modern day female ‘curse’

October 26th, 2008 by admin

Cellulite – the modern day female ‘curse’

Cellulite is an unwanted cosmetic blight affecting most women’s thighs and backsides, but it is far more common than most believe. Almost every woman aged over 13 will exhibit some degree of cellulite, and it does not equate to being overweight, despite common myths to the contrary.

It is almost exclusively a female problem, as males tend to have thicker skin, more muscle, more body hair and less body fat than women. Because fat is stored deeper under the thicker skin and deposited in different areas of the body, it tends not to show in men. However, men can get cellulite but it tends to appear in the neck or on the abdomen, as opposed to the common hotspots for women; thighs and bottoms.

Cellulite is basically squeezed fat which shows as dimples through the skin. Although being overweight is not a cause of cellulite, there are other factors that may impact upon its development, such as:

• Hormones

• Excessive alcohol consumption

• Smoking

• Rich foods

• Poor blood circulation

Hormones are considered a very important contributor and that is borne out by the fact that teenagers and pregnant women are more likely to develop cellulite.

But, if excessive cellulite is a problem what can woman do to rid themselves of the blight? Many experts say that it can be treated, but the results will soon fade. Many treatments exist for getting rid of cellulite: creams, adoption of a low fat diet, wearing coffee-filled tights, massage, laser treatment, the list is almost endless. There is even an urban myth circulating in the USA that holding a regular domestic vacuum cleaner against the cellulite will reduce it. As they say on dangerous TV shows: ‘don’t try that at home.’

Although legitimate treatments can be administered in the comfort of your own home, a wide range of treatments will also be on offer at the local day spa. Some treatments appear to work better than others, and only by sampling them will an individual find the most appropriate and effective one for them.

For example, anti-cellulite creams work by increasing the blood flow to the affected area, which in turn helps breaks down fat, but won’t get rid of it. Many claim that anti-cellulite tights also work, but again only temporarily, and it soon comes back once the tights are removed. As part of the treatment tights are expected to be worn through the night in bed which could give rise to different problems!

Whatever treatment cellulite sufferers opt for, whether it’s a quick application of cream at home, or one of the extensive remedies offered at the country’s many day spas, be secure in the knowledge that you are not alone in trying to get rid of it!

Comfort for Children with Ezcema

October 24th, 2008 by admin

Comfort for Children with Ezcema

Eczema usually begins in childhood and though, it is mostly seen in young people, eczema can be a problem for adults as well. Eczema is considered an atopic dermatitis. According to western medicine dermatitis is a result of contact with a specific irritant. This definition is rather narrow for eczema as it may flair up without coming in contact with an irritant or allergen and may be a result of internal influences. According to Chinese tradition, low kidney Qi is an important factor in eczema. In addition, eczema can be irritated by phlegm producing foods such as dairy products. The health and balance of the liver, lungs and spleen also appear to influence eczema. Pi fu bing xue du wan is a formula used in Chinese medicine to treat eczema and to reduce the likelihood of future outbreaks.Traditional thought suggests that the spleen and lungs work closely together. While the spleen produces blood and phlegm, it is the lungs that store them both. If there is an imbalance here the lungs can become bogged down with phlegm. This can lead to a damp condition with excessive heat and poor blood circulation to the skin. Eczema is extremely irritating especially for young children. In fact, the itching and irritation often leads children to scratching the irritated spots until they draw blood. Pi fu bing xue du wan combines herbs and roots to treat the underlying causes of eczema such as heat, dampness and phlegm, but also provides soothing relief from the irritation of eczema. One example of the beneficial ingredients in Pi fu bing xue du wan is the Forsythia fruit (Fructus forsythiae.) This fruit is used to clear away excessive heat. In addition, it is reputed to help the body eliminate toxins and reduce inflammation. It has long been used to treat sores as well. In the first, acute stages of eczema there is often inflammation, oozing sores, forsythia is soothing and healing for this condition. Honeysuckle flower (Flos lonicerae) another ingredient in Pi fu bing du wan, is cold in nature and helps to clear away heat outward. It also disperses wind and in the process helps to detoxify the system. Its influence is strong in the lungs, and stomach. Honeysuckle is frequently paired, as it is in Pi fu bing du wan, for these purposes.Another key ingredient in Pi fu bing du wan that is beneficial for Pi fu bing xue du wan-Eczema is Platycodon Root (Radix Platycodi). This root acts on the lungs. The lungs are frequently considered as the primary influence on skin health. Platycodon reduces phlegm and also used to get rid of pus. It is also thought to be good for promoting the unobstructed flow of Qi so crucial in eczema. Pi fu bing du wan is popular in Chinese traditional medicine for it ability to reduce heat conditions in the lungs, spleen, stomach and blood. It is effective to improve circulation and reduce inflammation and it provides soothing comfort to those who suffer with eczema.

Why Penis Pumps don’t work

October 24th, 2008 by admin

Using a penis pump is one of the most common ways men seek to obtain a bigger penis. A penis pump is a simple device with a hollow tube where you insert your penis. It has a handle which sucks blood into the penis by creating a vacuum. The blood is retained in the penis by means of a rubber ring placed around the base. The ring allows your penis to maintain its erection so you can have sex without losing the erection.

By creating a tight vacuum-type seal around the penis and by pulling blood to the surface, it engorges your member and makes it look longer. The sensations can be pleasant at first, but your penis will eventually return to its original length.

These pumps are generally used by men who suffer from chronic insulin dependent diabetes or circulatory problems. Men afflicted with these conditions have such poor blood circulation due to their sugar metabolism that they can’t get enough blood flowing into the penis. With the suction created by the pump, the penis’s skin and underlying tissues are being stretched. The ring clamps off the flow of blood and consequently traps the blood in the penis, making it appear thicker and capable of maintaining an erection. With the clamp firmly in place, men can then make love to their partners. However, on removing the clamp, the erection disappears.

Penis pumps give the greatest results when the penis is already hard or when the penis is semi-erect. The enlargement effect however is not long lasting and will disappear quickly once pumping ceases or if you remove the ring that keeps the blood pumped into the penis. Having said all this, penis pumps do not cause your penis to grow; they can only help you achieve fuller and harder erections temporarily.

Inspite of the obvious benefit one gains from using a penis pump, many men and their partners don’t like the device because the erection it produces is not “normal.” Some pump users complain that their penis feels numb or that it becomes discolored, misshapen, and cold to the touch. Other couples are uneasy about the interruption of intimacy it brings to lovemaking. Also, some men find that the constriction ring at the base of the penis causes mild discomfort upon ejaculation.

Penis pumps can be dangerous if used improperly. Take caution when using one and ensure that whatever pump you use has a reliable pressure gauge and that you follow the instructions closely. Furthermore, using the wrong kind of vacuum pump and using it too often can burst blood vessels in the penis, peel skin, cause general pain, and soreness. They also tend to thin out the penis, making it very weak and reducing the duration of erections. There are some cases of penis pumps even deforming the penis. Some men have found out that after using a penis pump for a period of time, the only way they would be able to obtain an erection is with the pump.

The major problems associated with pumps are:

1. The results are rarely permanent since you’re simply sucking blood into your penis. The penis is not actually strengthened nor does it increase in length or girth.

2. You run the risk of getting lymph blisters on the glands of your penis from the device that you’re putting over it.

3. You take the risk of bleeding from ruptured capillaries. Sucking a lot of blood abruptly into your penis can rupture some penile blood vessels.

4. You run the risk of temporary impotence as a consequence of forcing blood to your penis for a period of time.

Although pumps do work temporarily (usually for about half an hour) this is unsuitable for spontaneous occasions and these devices have been known to leave scars, bruises and in some cases gangrene, causing much pain to the penis. Pumps work by placing a tube over your penis and then pumping the air out of the tube. This temporarily swells the penis, but does not increase the blood capacity in the cells of the penis, which is crucial in achieving permanent size gains.

After learning all of these disadvantages, you need to think twice before you consider using a penis pump to help you sustain an erection. Your best bet to a full-sized penis would be to exercise and keep your blood flowing healthily.

Hair Loss And Diabetes

October 23rd, 2008 by admin

Diabetes is a disease that strikes more and more people every day. Most people do not realize that thinning of the hair or baldness is one of the early symptoms of diabetes. With early detection and treatment, hair loss as well as other complications can be avoided. There are many factors leading to the development of diabetes, including stress. Diabetes affects the body on every level and can cause excessive anxiety which is a well known contributor to balding.

Diabetes occurs when the body is unable to produce enough insulin to help the body metabolize carbohydrate. One issue face by individuals with diabetes is the increased potential for problems with their skin. This is due to poor blood circulation and elevated blood sugar levels. They are more susceptible bruising and injuries that are difficult to heal. The recovery rate for diabetics tends to be slow including hair re-growth. This in turn leads to a noticeable reduction in hair. In addition, diabetics are susceptible bacterial and fungal infections of the scalp which can promote hair loss as well.

Type 1 diabetes is classified as an autoimmune disease and often creates small bald patches on the scalp. This condition is called alopecia areata. It is often accompanied with other health issues including dysfunctional thyroid, a skin condition know as vitiligo which is characterized by the loss of pigment on large patches of skin most commonly on the hands, face and genitalia. Pernicious anemia is also a potential issue for people with diabetes. This is a condition in which the lining of the stomach no longer secretes enough enzymes to allow sufficient absorption of the vitamin B12.

Diabetes often goes undetected because the early symptoms are often over looked and frequently over looked or even ignored by the patient and even physicians. This often leads to serious problems, including blindness, kidney failure and heart disease. Early detection and treatment can slow or arrest the progression of the disease, prevent excessive loss of hair and lead to longer and healthier life. Successful treatment of diabetes requires commitment on the part of the patient to manage their lifestyle and the disease consistently.

Hair loss typically begins with the onset of diabetes and increases in severity as the disease progresses. Early diagnosis of the hair loss and its cause is essential as it may be your body’s way of telling you that something more serious is happening. It is imperative that you seek a physician’s advice concerning your hair loss problem to prevent further hair loss. While lotions and conditioners are readily available, they may not be sufficient to stop you hair loss problem. Consulting with a physician is the best way to get a handle on the situation and treat it properly from the beginning.
