Non Surgical Face Lifts : Is There an Effective Alternative? by Danna Schneider

October 29th, 2008 by admin

Face lifts are one of the most serious surgeries you can have when it comes to cosmetic surgery. Not only are they costly, but they involve a long healing process, and the results can be very unnatural looking and “plastic”.

It is certainly not anyone’s wish to come out looking like they’ve had their face pulled back, but rather that they have turned the clock back ten years, gracefully. Unfortunately, the “good” facelifts are few and far between. Are there really any effective alernatives, a “non surgical facelift”, if you will?

Well, thanks to the ever-growing market for this type of beauty and youth restoration, there are actually some less drastic measures you can take that will literally take years off you face, without surgery, or with minimally invasive surgery performed by a professional. Let’s take a look at the non surgical alternatives to facelifts. The first, and increasingly popular and less invasive option is what you call a “mini facelift”.

The mini facelift involves small incisions made in key areas around the lower part of the jawline, rather than a complete sweep of the skin surrounding the face, and pinpointed areas where the face can be gently pulled to look more taught and erase wrinkles.

The mini facelift gives you a younger looking face and neck, with less cost, less recovery time, and a more natural outcome that leaves the lower part of your face refreshed and rejuvenated looking. It also pulls any jowl-like appearance and loose skin around the neck back up to where it should be.

Another non surgical alternative to a full-on facelift is a subdermally injected filling of the problem areas which usually goes away after a few months, and needs to be re-done after it is absorbed into the body. This method of facial rejuvenation can actually tighten the skin, pull it back up, and make it looked toned and youthful again, while erasing fine lines and wrinkles by physically filling them in.

Facial rejuvenation can be a combination of fillers used to fill in wrinkles and lines. The different fillers that may be used are injected locally to the areas that need it, and include colllagen, restylane, hyaluronic acid and even fat injections that are either human derived or come right from you.

There are also 100% non invasive options that can be used by a professional to help smooth away the lines that have come with age. One of those, which requires quite a bit of healing time and also some pain is laser resurfacing.

A laser is used over the surface area of the facial skin, and it actually helps to take away layers of skin as well as to help rejuvenate collagen production. It is pretty expensive and your skin will be extremely red and raw for weeks if not months after this is performed. The results, however are fairly extraordinary.

A less painful alternative to full-on laser resurfacing is the Fraxel Laser, which actually does the same thing as a normal laser does, but it doesn’t penetrate all of the skin’s layers, rather it allows the user to penetrate and treat only the specific areas that need it.

This makes for less raw skin and quicker recovery. This is not cheap either though, it will run you anywhere from $1,000.00 to $1,500.00 per treatment, and at least five treatments are needed to see a dramatic improvement. I’ve seen the before and afters though, and they are nothing short of impressive.

Chemical peels are another option for facial rejuvenation, and they can vary in strength and severity as well. A chemical peel is performed by a professional, and they can make the chemicals either strong or weak, depending on the depth of skin damage they would like to remove.

This is primarily used for clients with a lot of photodamage, or discoloration, and it is especially known for restoring a healthful glow to the skin as well as an even color and texture, which often comes with youthful skin. The recovery time depends on how deep the peel goes.

Of course another non surgical alternative to a face lift is Botox, but I look at Botox as more of a local and preventive measure against further wrinkles, not really a “lift” since what it does is freeze the area it’s injected to, it doesn’t actually lift or pull the skin back to its rightful place.

Botox is probably a good option for some, but I tend to dislike the appearance it gives to some people, as it doesn’t allow them to fully express themselves, and that is what makes our faces beautiful, the fact that we can use expressions to show our emotions.

As far as “do it yourself” alternatives to facelifts, there are some pretty decent products out there on the market that you can use on a daily basis to help keep the skin fresh and also to help keep it lifted, toned and youthful looking. There are now hand held soft light lasers available for purchase online.

They emulate the soft light lasers that are often used in dermatologists offices to help stimulate collagen and rejuvenate the skin, helping to soften wrinkles and even acne scarring. I bought one of these myself and had some very good results, but I just couldn’t keep up with the nightly use, and so I must admit I let the results go away.

There are also some excellent home microdermabrasion kits that can be purchased for home use. They allow you to gently take dead skin cells and damaged layers of skin off, and often leave you with a glow and a softer, more youthful look. Another home kit that can be purchased are light acid peels for the face.

These are probably not nearly the strength of a chemical peel you would receive under professional care, but they can certainly offer a benefit that you can use any time you feel your face needs a nice little extra “lift”.

And there you have it, what I think are the most effective alternatives to the drastic face lift. They range in cost considerably, as well as the recovery time and healing process, but they all can have some astounding results in your campaign against aging skin.

6 Keys To Beauty

October 26th, 2008 by admin

Many women are obsessed with the concept of beauty. As a society we build up the many aspects of physical, outer beauty. Though women have typically been the ones focused on how to look their best men are starting to be more open about their need to look their best.

If you walk up to anyone on the street and ask them whether we emphasize outer appearance more than we should you will probably get a high percentage of “yes” answers but those same people will do everything they can to look their best. This is why the beauty industry is so strong.

So what are the key areas that we should focus on when we want to become beautiful or maintain our beauty? Here is a 6 broad areas that will cover your beauty needs:

1. Hair
2. Skin
3. Fitness
4. Cosmetics
5. Nail Care
6. Fashion

Hair:

A good haircut and styling can make your whole look. Our society is becoming much more multicultural in the US so what defines beautiful hair is changing. Companies are now producing hair care products that are tailored to every type of hair. Whether you have curly, frizzy, straight, oily or dry hair there is a hair care product line at the drug store for you. There are hair coloring treatments, hair straightening treatments and perm products that are now available to take home. Even the men have coloring treatments to hide their gray hairs.

Men tend to have it easy when it comes to hair since most of them have shorter haircuts that don’t require too much maintenance but there is a huge demand for products related to hair loss. Even though hair loss effects women, genetically men deal with this challenge the most.

Skin:

Is beauty synonymous with youth? If you look at the area of skin care you would definitely think so. As we age we lose moisture in our skin. We no longer have that shiny new penny look that the typical 5 year old has. The area of skin care is benefiting from many advances in science. The beauty of the skin is being restored by products that slough off the old skin cells and apply nanotechnology to penetrate the skin.

Fitness:

True beauty does not mean you have to be razor thin but being fit and active is the cornerstone to a healthy body. Though dieting and weight loss get a lot of attention getting into a regular exercise routine will help you define the look of your body. Depending on your age and health you can be as aggressive as you want in defining your exercise and fitness goals.

Cosmetics:

Natural beauty is not as appreciated as it used to be. Makeup can be used to enhance a person’s appearance. As we age we definitely find more needs for that concealer that we hardly used in our youth. Cosmetics can be a great tool to highlight what we all see the most, our face. Cosmetics can be very expensive and in the wrong hands can actually detract from your appearance so use them wisely.

Nail Care:

Within the last 10 years we have definitely seen a jump in the amount of nail salons. They can’t be missed at your local mall. Manicures and pedicures definitely can make you feel beautiful and pampered. The hands in particular stand out in your everyday interaction with others. Are you more apt to remember someone with a great manicure or not?

Fashion:

Lastly is our obsession with the latest clothing fashions. Is it too late to wear white? Bootcut or straightcut jeans? Every morning we have to decide how and whether what we wear will affect how others think we look. We get our cues from the latest magazines and what people are wearing on our favorite shows. For the creative among us we can define our own styles.

So if you want to look and feel beautiful be sure to focus on understanding these 6 keys to beauty and how they relate to you. Some of us may need more help in one area than another depending on what nature gave us but we should always make the most out of the beauty assets we have been given.

4 Keys To Lasting Weight Loss : Your Keys To Results

October 25th, 2008 by admin

If lasting weight loss is your goal, you’re not alone. It’s estimated that about one in three American adults is trying to lose weight at any given time. Unfortunately, most are not all that successful.

Lasting weight loss is a goal many pursue but few achieve. There are many reasons for this, but I’ve outlined 4 major key steps that are critical to your weight loss success. Maintaining your motivation to lose weight is difficult, but if you’re inspired to get in shape, you can make it happen just as I did.

After losing about 25 percent of my body weight without surgery, and without sacrificing myself to the weight loss gods, I know a little bit about losing weight. I’ve managed to keep the excess weight off for over 3 years, and also get in better shape than I have been in years. I didn’t join a gym, or go to a weight loss clinic, or pay any organization to assist me. I did it on my own and you can too.

There are a number of factors that need to come together, however, in order for you to have successful and sustainable fat loss. I’ve boiled them down to the 4 major key areas for you here.

1. Motivation - Motivation is born out of inspiration, so be sure you know what it is that inspires you to lose the weight. Take advantage of inspirational and motivational tools. Beyond that, there are several things that you need to be motivated to do. You have to be motivated enough to be ready; ready to prepare, ready to plan, ready to commit, ready to be disciplined, ready to follow through, ready to be critical of yourself, and perhaps most of all, ready to accept the new you. Are you motivated to do all of these things? Great!

2. Planning - Beyond motivation, you need a plan. If you don’t have a plan, you’ll never get started. Your plan must include not only choosing your diet and exercise routine, but a number of other steps as well. You have to re-plan your life, not totally, but enough so that you create a supportive environment for weight loss. Get rid of both the habits and the things that don’t support weight loss; out with the bad, and in with the good. Your plan needs to include others, so tell your friends and family what you’re doing. You need to restructure your days to make it easy to meet your weight loss goals. Remember, all things being equal, the simpler the plan, the better.

3. Execution - All the planning in the world means nothing without execution. You have to carry out your plan. Execution also means keeping your commitment, and facing challenges and setbacks with an open mind and positive attitude. Execution may involve adjustments to your original plan, so be prepared for that.

4. Tracking - During execution, you’ll need to monitor your progress and analyze the results. When you do, give an honest evaluation. Ask yourself some hard questions. Am I really sticking to the plan, or am I cheating? What could I do more of or less of? Is the plan I chose right for me? Do I need to up my exercise level? Do I need a stricter diet? Should I change diets all together? Most of us have experienced setbacks on the road to weight loss, and sometimes this derails our efforts. Don’t let that happen. Instead, if needed, adjust your plan, re-commit, and let your motivation take you through that tough time.

So gather your thoughts and your things and get inspired to lose weight again. With some motivation, good planning, proper execution, and honest tracking of your progress, you can take the weight off. If you continue tracking, although not as vigorously, you’ll keep the weight off long after your so called diet period has ended. Lasting weight loss can and will be yours, it’s all up to you.

Health, Can at Home Fitness Workouts Be As Effective As Gym Workouts?

October 23rd, 2008 by admin

Sometimes you just can’t make it to the gym every time you want to-meetings run late, traffic gets backed up, the car breaks down or something else happens that stops you from getting in your workout. The next time that happens you might want to consider working out at home rather than skipping your training session entirely. Have you not trained at home because you don’t believe you can get a decent workout? Well, think again because you’re dead wrong-you can. At-home workouts, if done with reasonable intensity, can be extremely effective. A good in-the-house workout session can be made even better if you add in a pair of dumbbells. While depending on your fitness goals, training in the home might not be right for every person all the time, and nothing will ever replace weight lifting for building mass, for even the most dedicated gym rat, working out at home can be a nice break from the routine at the gym once in a while. Plus, it’s always a good idea to keep your muscles guessing by challenging them. There are a few other advantages to working out at home too: you can listen to your favorite music, there’s no waiting for machines, there’s no one to hassle you, no worries about cleaning up after others and you don’t have to drive. It can also be a great way to dodge the inner escape artist every once in a while when you just don’t feel like going to the gym or need a change of pace. If you’ve got kids, at-home workouts can help get them on the right track early on. The question is though, “Is working out at home effective and can I see results?” The answer is yes! The key though to an effective home exercise program is to include exercises that work three key areas: cardio, strength and flexibility. Even if you don’t have a fully-equipped home gym, there are plenty of exercises you can do using just your bodyweight. Keeping a set of dumbbells around the house can give your in-home workout some teeth and get your muscles pumped. Plus, they don’t take up a lot of space and help in stabilizing and developing muscles that are important to strength, balance, and posture. Some strength training exercises you can do at home using just your bodyweight and dumbbells include: Chest: Push-ups are great for working the pecs. Vary the spread of your hands to work different parts of the chest. For even more punch, place your feet on a chair or your bed and try some decline push-ups. Do some chest presses with dumbbells lying on the floor and dumbbell flies (flat or incline if you happen to have an adjustable bench at home) to round things out. Shoulders: Shoulders are little tougher to work out using just your body weight so you’re better off using dumbbells. These are all great exercises that are easy to do in the house: seated press, side raises, front raises, bent-over reverse flies and shoulder shrugs; upright row. Arms: There are plenty of effective exercises you can do at home to pump up your arms using just a chair and a set of dumbbells. Biceps: Just like at the gym you can do standing or seated bicep curls, concentrated curls, standing or seated alternating curls and hammer curls. Triceps: Doing push-ups with your hands close together is an excellent way to beef up your triceps. Or, sitting on a chair, do some one-arm behind-the-neck extensions with a dumbbell. Using a chair you can also do bent-over kickbacks and lying flat on the floor you can do a couple of variations of triceps extensions using a dumbbell. Back: For your back, try dumbbell rows, dumbbell dead-lifts and if you’ve got a spot where you can do pull-ups, holding a dumbbell between your ankles will really give you an extra punch. Legs: There are plenty of exercises you can do in the home to work your legs but add dumbbells and they’ll be even more effective. Here are a few examples: squats with dumbbells, lunges with dumbbells and standing calf raise (holding a dumbbell in one hand). Adding dumbbells to your out-of-gym or at-home cardio routine can help you make the most of your time. Carry a set of dumbbells with you when you walk, alternating between curls and just carrying them at your side. If you do this though, be careful not to swing your arms around too much, you can injure yourself easily. If you’ve got access to a set of stairs, walk up and down carrying a couple of dumbbells at your side-you’ll get your heart moving in no time. If you don’t want to skip the gym in favor of an at-home workout but do want to kick your metabolism up a notch while you’re hanging around the house, set aside some times throughout the day to spend a few minutes moving around using dumbbells. A University of Missouri (Columbia) study found that when we spend too much time sitting on our rumps, the body’s fat burning mechanisms slow to a near halt. No surprises there but the study also found that moving around whenever possible can jumpstart the fat burning process again. So instead of just lying around on the sofa for hours at a stretch, get up, pick up the dumbbells and get your ass moving-even if it’s only ten minutes at a time. You’ll burn some extra calories and you’ll do your body good. Mike Westerdal is the owner of http://www.criticalbench.com. The Benefits That Come From Exercise Weight Loss Programs

October 22nd, 2008 by admin

You can get huge benefits from exercise weight loss programs like fat loss, increasing muscle tone, strength and many other health benefits.

There are many different benefits that you can get from participating in these weight loss programs, and if you understand about all of these different benefits before you even start, then you are going to want to push even harder because you will be able to see just how great exercise weight loss programs really are.

More About It

If you are wondering about these weight loss programs, then one of the first things that you are going to want to know that you are going to have to do is create a program for you that is personalized to your specific needs, and you can do this by using the basic exercise weight loss programs as examples.

If you do not even know where to begin, then you can hire a personal trainer, who will be able to work with you, figure out the key areas that you want to work on, and then they will be able to design a program that will work perfectly for you and your particular situation.

For instance, if you only have a couple days a week that you have available for working out, then the trainer will most likely pack several high stress workouts into the few days that you do have available. As well, if there are target areas that you want to work on, such as your thighs or buttocks, then they will be able to let you know what exercises you are going to want to include in order for you to be able to lose the weight on those specific areas.

You want to understand that if you are just starting off on an exercise program, most likely it will take you a bit of time to be able to get accustomed to it and so that you can start enjoying it. However this is absolutely normal and so you really should not be wo

rried at all. Just make sure that you put the most into it as you can, right from the start.

One great idea is to get one of your friends or family members to do this with you, so that you have someone there that will be able to keep you company and keep you motivated, and you can do the same for them. It is always great to have someone else there with you after all, and so you will definitely want to consider this idea.

In fact most bodybuilders and fitness instructors have training partners that they use to help them keep motivated. This way you will and your partner will be able to feed off each others energy and in the long run you will both see the results clearly.

Cardio Or Muscle Strength Training?

It is a question that most women usually ask before they begin any weight loss program. Generally if you are trying to put on muscle, you are going to also put on fat, however, this does not mean that you should only do cardio training if you are a woman.

It is important to build some muscle in order to keep your body stabilized. Without muscle we are just skin and bone without the strength to support our body weight. Also most people do not realize it but muscle exercise increases your heart rate, which intern helps the body to burn fat.

You will probably notice that most bodybuilders have a very low percentage of fat, therefore that means you still have the ability to put on muscle and lose fat. Most people find it easier to put on muscle first and then cut back the fat at a later stage. So if you are just starting an exercise program make sure you incorporate some kind of strength training routine into it.

Introducing Liposuction Article - Health Articles

October 20th, 2008 by admin

For the morbidly obese liposuction may appear to be an easy way to rid the body of excess weight. The truth is that liposuction is not a way to lose weight but a procedure for removing excess fat in certain key areas. It is important to keep in mind that liposuction is a surgical procedure that can only be performed by a surgeon thus the health of the patient is of grave concern. The health of the patient is an important consideration to a surgeon when making a decision to perform this procedure. Before performing liposuction, the surgeon will evaluate the health of the patient in order to determine if they are a candidate for the surgery.

Liposuction is also called lipoplasty, liposculpture, or suction lipectomy. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure whose purpose is the removal of fat from various areas on the human body such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, and backs of the arms just to name a few. In spite of what many people may think, liposuction is not an easy alternative to diet and exercise nor is it a way to lose weight. The procedure is one method of body contouring and carries significant risks. Though the amount of fat that is removed during liposuction varies by doctor, methodology and patient, the average fat loss is ten pounds or less.

There are several factors that will affect the doctor’s determination regarding the amount of fat that he can safely remove in one session. The doctor will discuss the options with the patient including advising him or her of any negative aspects that may occur if too much fat is removed. When a patient is over-suctioned lumpiness and dents in the skin can be visible. In addition, removing more fat increases the surgical risk. It’s important to remember that liposuction is a surgical procedure and as such carries certain risks. It’s essential for the surgeon to evaluate the risk to each patient and determine if the risk of surgery is greater than the risk he or she faces as a result of obesity.

One of the most important things to remember about liposuction is that it is not a going to help you lose weight. Those who claim they lost 50 pounds of fat are providing highly exaggerated statistics. It is possible, however, for a person to have the appearance of weight loss because of the contouring process that occurs with liposuction. The patient can have either local or general anesthesia when he undergoes liposuction at the discretion of doctor and patient. The safety of the procedure depends upon both the amount of fat that the surgeon removes as well as the type of anesthesia the patient undergoes during the operation. The patient needs to be as fit as he possibly can be prior to having the procedure. Many surgeons also prefer the patient to have abstained from smoking for several months prior to undergoing a liposuction procedure. Having a strong heart and lungs will greatly reduce the chance of the patient developing any complications during or after the surgery.
