A Tale of Back Pain and Memory Foam

A Tale of Back Pain and Memory Foam

People have all kinds of illnesses, diseases and injuries, from the dreaded cancer, meningitis and various organs failings, to broken bones, diabetes and the need for stitches. They all have differing levels of pain and discomfort, requiring various forms of treatment and pain medication. Out of all the conditions in existence, nobody complains and whines more than the back pain sufferers. There are hundreds and thousands of people suffering with far more deadly and painful diseases but more people are worried about their backache? What do they think is wrong apart from them being unfit or having done something that is completely their fault? Most back pain suffers are suffering because they are simply out of shape. Excess weight puts more pressure on your back causing the muscles the strain, pull or even tear. Understandable the older generations have more back troubles due the frailty old age brings but people as young as twenty five have no-one to blame but themselves. People have been known to slip a disc at twenty five trying pick something up by bending over rather than using their legs and kneeling down to pick it up like you should to prevent such injuries. The human back isn’t designed to bend like that; it’s purely there to support the body and allow bipedal movement, not bend you in half to pick up a stuffed toy on the ground. Admittedly if you play sports or do a lot of physical activities pain injuries do happen, but in this day and age very few people actually do any physical activity at all, with jobs being office based and manual labour jobs being aided more and more by automated machinery, so for most people there is just no excuse.Although there are many different ways to avoid back problems people still ignore the advice and whine and moan when they injure their backs yet again. Therefore if prevention wont work and people insist on suffering with back pain, then its understandable why there are so many supposed ‘remedies’ for back pain; such as relaxation tapes to unwind, painkillers for those aches and pains, physiatrists to tell you that you don’t actually feel a pain in your back and it’s all in you head and of course there is sticking dozens of needles in your back. All these ‘remedies’ have been tried by people and have had varying results, however some seem just to inflict pain to distract you from the problem at hand, acupuncture for example involves sticking small needles into pressure point in your back, this seems very much like bloodletting in the middle ages, which admittedly worked to a certain extent as a small amount of pain was numbed temporarily. Painkillers are always good for numbing pain but taking painkillers for back problems is not the best idea as you can injury your back worse and not know it, pain is there for a purpose not a punishment. Memory foam seems to work well and allow people to sleep comfortably, unfortunately people can’t sleep all day long. Correcting your posture, though painful when your have back problems can be worthwhile suffering though as your back gets used to being in the correct position.

Is Being Fat Your Fault? by Jude Wright

October 28th, 2008 by admin

Why is it that some people can eat whatever they want, never exercise and still look slim and trim? Then, there’s the rest of us who have to watch every crumb we put in our mouths, have to exercise daily and still never reach the weight we want? It’s not fair, is it?

Most people who struggle with their weight have their ancestors to blame. Their ancestors are the ones who passed on their “fat” genes. (Thanks, Grandma!) They can lose weight but they have to work harder at it.

Overweight people are historically looked upon as lazy and gluttonous. In reality, they don’t necessarily eat more than thinner people; they just have family genes working against them. Research has shown this to be true.

In studies with identical twins who were raised apart, researchers found that both twins gained approximately the same amount of weight regardless of what they ate or how much - or little - they exercised.

Hispanics, Native Americans and African Americans seem to gain weight more easily than other ethenic groups.

Although research is just beginning to discover how our genes work to make us fat, scientists believe that a few different fat genes could have survived from past generations who had to struggle through times of starvation. Those genes allowed them to eat and store calories when food was plentiful. When food was harder to find, the genes helped people burn fewer calories so they could survive by using their stored fat.

You may have inherited your fat genes, but you may also have inherited your cravings, your appetite and your metabolism. Here are a few ways to beat your fat genes:

1. Look to your appetite. Paying attention to whether you are “really” hungry or not can help you get a handle on your food intake. When you are eating, it takes your brain a while to catch up to the signal that your stomach sends out that it’s full. Savor your food. Eat more slowly so that your stomach’s signal more closely meets your brain’s.

2. Eat more fiber. Eating foods that contain more fiber will depress your appetite and keep your insulin levels more even. Your insulin levels normally rise quickly after a meal but soluble fiber keeps these levels lower.

3. Forget crash diets. When you try to drastically cut calories and perform grueling exercise routines, your fat cells mount a defensive. Instead, slow down and take smaller steps to change your eating and exercise habints.

Go ahead and blame your ancestors for your chunky body. But don’t think that there is nothing that you can do about it. Eat healthier foods and get adequate exercise to win over the fat genes.

Why Its Necessary To Know The Causes Of Kidney Stones

Do you know in United States alone some 300,000 people each year are hospitalized due to Kidney Stones? This is one of the most painful diseases since the earliest of times. One of the evidences depicts the presence of kidney stones logged inside ancient Egyptian Mummies. It is necessary to know about the causes of disease. If you ask what are the causes of kidney stone then medical community have no definitive answer. Disorders of the anatomical, mineral, and endocrinological systems along with metabolic disorders are involved among the causes. These disorders can lead to forming the kidney stone. There is a thought that the condition as kidney stone is inherited one. Don’t get surprised to know that if one of your parents has kidney stone and you are suffering the same. The chances of getting it to you are very high. Kidney stone is transferable through generations. Heredity can become one of the causes of kidney stone. The most of the kidney stones are made of calcium and hypercalciuria (high levels of calcium in the urine). It is risky one. The predisposition to high level of calcium in the urine may be carried through heredity. You can see the people with renal tubular acidosis and people with problems metabolizing a variety of chemicals including cystine (an amino acid), oxalate, (a type of salt), and uric acid (as in gout). These people face the consequences of kidney stone which causes due to heredity. It is one of the most possible reasons. Living conditions also matter a lot to encourage the formation of kidney stone. Kidney stone complaints are more serious in hot and humid areas than in cooler climates. Geographical location is one of the causes of your kidney stone. geographic predisposition of people from Southern United States have an increased risk of kidney stone. There are regional ’stone belts’ with people living in this area. People in this area get easily dehydrated , since the cimate is hot. However their urine becomes more concentrated, the condition allows chemicals to come in closer contact and this leads to beginning of forming nidus of the stone. Thus geographical location matters to support the infection to grow. However, what you eat is very much considerable to find out the causes of kidney stone. The root cause of kidney stone is calcium. Many times doctors suggest not eating the food with lot of calcium in it. It can be problematic to you. Strong build up of calcium in your body will result in kidney stone. So before eating cereals, orange juice and a number of enriched bread. Think once again. Intake of OTC products can lead in formation of kidney stone in your body. People taking water pills and those who regularly take antacids that have a high calcium content, endup increasing the amount of calcium in their urine. This is the reason to increase the risk of forming stones. Patients with HIV who take the medication indinavir (Crixivan) have the possibility of forming indinavir stones.Causes of kidney stone are not much more. The basic cause is calcium only.

The surgical approach depends on the place and the contents of the encephalocele. The hydrocephalus joined the encephaloceles can require the surgical treatment with a shunt. There is no prevention of this disorder but, some studies proved that the catch of the folic acid supplements in weeks early of pregnancy can reduce the probability of the neuraux defects of tube.

Qigong for a Healthy Life

October 26th, 2008 by admin

Qigong for a Healthy Life

Most people have heard of acupuncture or Chinese herbs but how many know much about qigong and especially medical qigong? Qigong is also written as “chi kung” or chi gung” and is pronounced “chee gung”. It is the oldest but least known aspect of Chinese Medicine – at least in the West. It is very well known in China where many people can be seen practising qigong or tai chi in the parks in the early hours of the morning. Many people have heard of tai chi, the martial art where the slow form is the first thing learned by students. The slow form is very graceful and many people practise it purely for health and some may not even know that it is a very powerful martial art. It can also be regarded as a form of qigong.Qi is the vital force or life energy which gives all living things life. It is the energy behind all functions of the human body. It keeps us healthy as long as it is flowing freely and smoothly and not being obstructed in any way. Looked at in one way, it is similar to the Western concept of the immune system. When we have enough qi we can resist illness and fight off infections. When our qi is reduced, we become more susceptible. In acupuncture, the many meridians or channels (along which acupuncture points are located) are the main routes that qi flows along. However, the flow of qi it is not restricted to those routes and one kind of qi, called defensive or protective qi, extends some distance beyond the surface of the body. It’s this kind of qi that defends us from infections. What is medical qigong? It’s the art of cultivating and circulating our qi for healing and health. It has its origins in ancient Chinese shamanic techniques. In the modern day there are forms with a long history such as Wild Goose Qigong which has been passed down for 28 generations from the original daoists who observed the grace and strength of the wild geese in the Kunlun mountains of China. There are also modern forms created by present-day doctors such as Dr. Xu Hongtao, the head of the Qigong and Tuina department at Xiyuan hospital in Beijing. He has created the effective Guigen Qigong which is practised in the hospital every afternoon in his department. There are thousands of forms of qigong today and a form can be found to suit anyone. You may be very fit already or you may be in a wheelchair. It doesn’t matter! Everyone can benefit! The forms vary from very simple and easy to learn to very long and complex. It would be best to start with a simple and easy to learn form which would take only a few minutes a day to practise but would have many health-giving benefits.Qigong is gradually becoming more popular in the West and so you can probably find someone teaching it close by. If not there are many DVDs available of various forms.

The Benefits of a Diet Patch

October 26th, 2008 by admin

The Benefits of a Diet Patch

For generations, people have chosen the path of least resistance. This is true in their jobs, relationships and of course, in their pursuit for the perfect physique. While some prefer to visit the gym regularly and choose the foods they eat based upon caloric and fat content, others opt for an easier way to lose weight. Bursting onto the weight loss scene is the Hoodia diet patch. But, can the patch actually help you to lose weight? Below, you’ll discover how the patch works along with some of the benefits of applying it. You’ll also learn about a surprising trend emerging with the Hoodia patch’s popularity. Should you use the patch? Keep reading to find out.Losing Weight By Applying The PatchThe Hoodia Diet Patch was originally conceived as a low-maintenance alternative to ingesting the Hoodia pill. It was also created to resolve the issues surrounding the body’s inability to absorb the properties of Hoodia effectively when taking it in pill form. The patch works in a similar manner to the pill. An ingredient within Hoodia (a molecule referred to as P57) is absorbed from the patch into your bloodstream. Once there, it can suppress your appetite, reducing your cravings for food. With a less-active appetite, you’ll eat less while maintaining your normal energy level throughout the day.Benefits Of Using The Hoodia Diet PatchThe Hoodia patch offers an incredibly-easy way to realize the benefits of Hoodia without having to worry about taking a pill. Many people don’t like taking pills. Others are simply too busy (or forgetful) to take a pill regularly. The patch eliminates the chore of scheduling and taking the pills. Many experts have also claimed that the body is often unable to absorb all of the properties of Hoodia by taking it in pill form. The theory is that Hoodia (most notably, the molecule P57) can be absorbed more quickly and effectively by applying the patch. P57 can enter your bloodstream directly, bypassing your stomach and working to suppress your food cravings faster and more completely.Proceed With Caution: Fakes AboundAn alarming trend has emerged during the past few years. According to a study conducted by NaturalNews.com, it’s estimated that nearly 80% of the Hoodia gordonii currently on the market is counterfeit. Exacerbating the problem is that many companies that promote Hoodia products display fake CITES certificates. These certificates are issued by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species and are required in order to sell Hoodia products. When consumers purchase and ingest fake Hoodia, they find (not surprisingly) that it doesn’t yield the expected results. Despite research showing Hoodia to effectively suppress the appetite, many people mistakenly think the product doesn’t work.Using The Hoodia Diet PatchThe Hoodia diet patch can be a great way to relieve your cravings for food so you’ll eat less and lose weight. Many people have reported excellent results with the patch and praise its easy application. If you’re considering using the patch, ask your doctor whether doing so is recommended.

Soap Nuts to Treat Eczema & Psoriasis

October 25th, 2008 by admin

Soap Nuts to Treat Eczema %26amp; Psoriasis

Soap nuts have a long history when it comes to treating skin conditions such as eliminating freckles, erasing fine lines, and ridding cracks in the skin. Soap nuts have been used for generations in India to treat eczema and psoriasis effectively and in the past few decades have been used in Europe with very positive results. The best thing about using soap nuts is that they are safe and effective for people that are allergic to even the mildest form of astringents or cleansers that are purchased in the stores. In most cases, even the cleansers that are labeled allergy free or for sensitive skin can be damaging to sufferers of eczema and psoriasis. Soap nuts have also been used in the United States for people who have been diagnosed with these skin conditions. Soap Nuts for Eczema? It has always been recommended that people with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis should not use any type of cleansers on their skin. This is almost impossible considering that cleansers are in just about everything that is used commonly around the household and it is said that people who suffer from these types of skin conditions should try to avoid anything labeled as a detergent or soap. Soap nuts are among the list of herbs and minerals in Ayurvedic shampoos and cleansers and they are used in Ayurvedic medicine as a treatment for eczema and psoriasis. Eczema affects both males and females alike and age is not a factor. Common symptoms of mild eczema can include dry, hot and itchy skin but more severe forms of the condition can result in the skin becoming raw, broken and bleeding. Helping Eczema %26amp; Psoriasis Rather than having to resort to prescription medicine to treat your eczema and psoriasis, first try ground soap nut husks as they provide a totally natural chemical free detergent for treatment. Soap nuts are recommended for babies and for people who develop allergies to conventional washing products, as they contain no allergenic substances. This is extremely important for those who suffer from skin disorders because many times the clothes that are being washed can trigger the skin condition and cause it to worsen. Soap nuts are all natural and have no smell to them which is the main reason that they are so successful in ridding skin disorders and preventing future outbreaks. Soap Nut Studies Many studies have proven that some people who have eczema have had their problems diminish after switching to soap nuts as a laundry detergent and as a skin cleanser. Soap nuts lead to stable soapy foam when they come in contact with water. Saponin%26rsquo;s can replace conventional chemical detergents such as sodium laureth sulphate that are becoming increasingly unacceptable to the consumer due to fears concerning the safety of the chemical. Naturally occurring, Saponin%26rsquo;s provide the foaming agent necessary in shampoo or shower gel that are gentler on the body and more environmentally friendly. According to Professor C. Kamaswara Rao of the Department of Forests Environment and Ecology of the Government of Karnataka, the biggest environmental benefits of the soap nuts in conjunction with prevention and elimination of skin conditions is through its anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties

What is Genetic Hair Loss?

October 23rd, 2008 by admin

Although genetic hair loss can seem like a curse, it isn’t. It’s inherited from one’s family and is passed down through the generations. You may experience male pattern baldness at the age of twenty-seven, but your twin brother may not! It’s very strange how the gene travels through the family. But the fact remains: it does. Genetic hair loss appears predominately in men, but may also appear in a few select women.
This type of hair loss is inherited through the genetics of genes of one’s mother. With genetic hair loss the reason for balding is not hair falling out but the body’s inability to produce more hair. This is due to the hair follicles going through their normal 25 cycles within a very short time period. This causes the follicles to stop producing hairs much earlier than normal.
The reason that this is referred to as pattern baldness is that the balding takes on a distinctive pattern. Men may notice first a receding hair line and then slowly large patches of baldness, as the hair around the crown of the head thins. Normally, the remaining hair can be found on the sides of the head. Females, on the other hand, bald differently with genetic hair loss. A woman’s hair will thin progressively all over the scalp. Eventually this will lead to baldness.
It appears that even genetic hair loss is in some way influenced by the hormone testosterone. This is because it has been found to be true that men who do not produce testosterone do not experience genetic hair loss. As per the females who experience pattern baldness, most of the women experience thinning hair after menopause. Perhaps this is because their estrogen level has fallen, leaving them more susceptible to the effects of testosterone.
It is important to mention that not all hair loss or thinning hair is an indication of genetic hair loss. Indeed normal thinning does occur with age, however this slight thinning is barely noticeable and does not cause bald patches. Therefore, one should not worry simply because they are losing a few more hairs daily, but should be concerned if they begin to notice thin or bald spaces.
This type of balding is best treated through surgery. Though the best solution is hair restoration surgery, it can be costly. For the male who can not afford this, hair plugs are an affordable alternative.
Genetic hair loss is possibly the most devastating form of hair loss because it is permanent and can cause total balding. It is also quite noticeable; however with today’s medical procedures one with this condition can live a normal life free from ridicule.

Gene Factor And Body Weight

October 22nd, 2008 by admin

How genetics may be playing a factor in your body weight and ideas on how to fight it.

If parents are obese is there a chance for the kid also to maintain the lineage? Giving an exact answer to this question is pretty difficult. The child might be overweight but you cannot bet on it if the child is lean and skinny. But one confirmation can be derived regarding this matter. If the child of the weighty parents is also fatty somewhere there is a gene connection between the two. Thus body weight has a close link with the genetic factor that cannot be denied.

Gene: The basic identity mark

All of us know that gene is the most genuine identity mark of your birth. Everything can be found out through the DNA test. Similarly the body weight factor has also a close connection with the gene. How is this possible?

* Consider a familial block. The familial traits are passed down the generations one after the other by bringing in some kind of variation in the genetic factor. That is why the child is not the clone of his parents but an individual identity.

* Why do looks resemble similar of persons belonging to the same family? It is obviously due to the genetic factor. In the very same way sometimes this obesity factor or the health structure is passed from the par

ents to their child.

* Genetic studies have also shown that from father to the child the particular factor might stay dormant but can grow prominent in the grand children. Thus weight gain can be very much hereditary apart from all other common causes.

Control over genes

Genes behind extra pounds might have already become a nightmarish thought for you. But if you are given an option that as you can diet to reduce your weight, you too can have a control over the genes and hence achieve the same. Don%26#8217;t you feel it to be mind blowing?

* Well the research is on to give you the right solution for gene control to put down your weight.

* But the Medical Science has reached to this point that weighty people due to genetic defects can very much lead a stable and healthy life.

* The only thing they must take care of is to prohibit all other external sources that can be reason for gathering fat.

* Regular exercise and healthy diet can keep them fit from within. If the level of cholesterol is maintained your heart, kidneys and blood pressure are in a safe state. You might not become Tom Cruise or Kate Winslet, but you can remain a healthy and beautiful you.

Get Rid Of FAT Article - Health Articles

October 22nd, 2008 by admin

One of the biggest concerns today that people are faced with is weight gain. As we all know it is so easy to put on weight, but when it comes to losing it, it is rightly called ‘sweating it out’. This dilemma has spawned generations, and we are trying to come up with ways and means of losing that ‘flab’ or fat.

Today we have aerobic exercises, gymnasiums and products like diet drinks that help individuals lose weight but often do not produce the much required difference. To achieve that maximum difference and a noticeable change the practical solution is liposuction. Liposuction (or lipoplasty as it is technically known) assists individuals remove the fat deposits that plague certain areas of the body. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, liposuction was the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in America for 2003 with a total of 384,626 cases of the procedures being performed.

Liposuction is usually a cosmetic surgery so it is not considered medically necessary (there are rare exceptions to this). Because It is you who has to decide whether or not you will undergo this procedure. You may decide that liposuction is not right for you. You may make this decision without consulting a physician or after consulting with a physician. A consultation with a physician does not obligate you to have liposuction if you decide that you do not want to.

There are alternative to liposuction, but are not as effective. You can change your diet to lose some excess body fat, you can exercise, you can start accepting your body and appearance the way it is and most often you can take the help of lose fitting clothes, which hide your flabs.

Consult a physician liposuction is a commonly performed surgery today. It could be the best choice.
