Hidden Dangers of Soy: Soy Product Dangers

Hidden Dangers of Soy: Soy Product Dangers

If you have been hearing all about how good soy products are for you, and how much the soybean can benefit your health on so many levels, then you might be very surprised to hear that soy is not any of these things! The truth is that soy could even be killing you and your family, and you may not even know it. Do you know what is in soy and soy protein? Did you know that if you are experiencing unusual weight gain, bloating and / or nausea, it could all be eliminated just by removing soy products from your diet?Today’s families are consuming soy and soy products much, much more than we ever were, all throughout history. Is it just a coincidence then, that today’s families are also seeing many more cases of obesity, thyroid problems, osteoporosis, cancer and many more diseases than our ancestors?I bought into the soy fad just like everyone else – until I went into anaphylactic shock! I discovered I was allergic to soy (deathly allergic!), and this prompted me to do some research into the subject. What I found out about soy shocked me into writing a book about it.You may be reading this and thinking, ‘they wouldn’t have put anything on the market if it wasn’t safe – aren’t these things tested and regulated?’ Well, they are not supposed to put things in the stores that aren’t safe, but I’m afraid that they are anyway! In 1966 they did a lot of research into soy and the harmful substance in the soybean. They found that there are naturally occurring compounds within the bean that are toxic to humans and animals. Soy has even been linked with breast cancer, Down syndrome and brain damage in infants!I guess the food manufacturers did not care about the research that was done in 1966. The soy industry makes $70 billion per year today, and whenever we buy soy and soy products we are giving them more reasons not to care!By now you may be wondering why I keep referring to soy products; did you know that due to advances in food technology, they are now isolating soy proteins, isoflavones and other substances found in the soy bean and adding them to foods where soy does not occur naturally? The stunning truth is that almost all processed and manufactured foods today have some form of soy in them. This is a highly disturbing fact, especially because soy actually takes away the nutrients in other foods, not allowing the body to benefit from them. There are many claims made about soy by the soy industry. We have all heard how soy will reverse your child’s obesity, how soy contains less calories and fat, how soy will prevent cancer, and the list goes on. However, there are many hidden dangers with soy products. Keep your family safe from soy protein danger. Do not feed your children soy products. Do not give your baby soy infant formula. Remember to research claims and “health products” before serving them to your family.Dangers of Soy More Articles:Soy Health Risks

Eating Good Food With Vitamins

Eating Good Food With Vitamins

It is essential that a person is aware of what constitutes good food health vitamin intake. The federal drug administration produces a recommended daily allowance for the majority of vitamins which it regards as a good food health vitamin intake. These figures vary according to a person’s age, sex and some other factors so that the good food health vitamin intake for a young woman is going to be different to that of a man in his seventies. The food health vitamin intake amounts of certain foods are included in the nutritional labelling. This labelling is important for a person to consider and helps ensure that they are receiving the correct food health vitamin intake from the foods that they eat. The nutritional information is often represented as a percentage of the recommended daily allowance of each vitamin and mineral and can help assess the value of the foods in the quest for good food health vitamin intake. There are also a number of items that a person may want to restrict in their diet as part of their good food health vitamin intake. Again, the nutritional labelling of certain foods can help a person to see how high a product is in these undesirable contents. Salt and fat, for example, may be items that a person wants to consider limiting as part of their good food health vitamin intake even though they are not strictly vitamins. The majority of people actually refer to nutrients when they use the word vitamin and food manufacturers are aware that a person is looking at minerals and other items when they are considering their good food health vitamin intake. Fiber is another element that many people are more aware of as forming an essential part of a balanced diet and is necessary for good food health vitamin intake. If a person is on a restricted diet for any reason then they need to pay even more attention to their good food health vitamin intake. Obviously, some foods contain different nutrients to others and this is applicable to vitamins as well and it may be more difficult for a person to achieve their good food health vitamin intake if they are unable to eat certain foods. Vitamin supplements can form an essential part of a good food health vitamin intake for people who are unable to obtain their vitamins from their normal diet. It is also worth remembering that the good food health vitamin intake for a person varies throughout their life depending on their general health.

Ten Steps to a Healthier Diet by Lauren McGinley - ArticleCity.com

October 24th, 2008 by admin

Eating! Who doesn’t like to eat? I personally like eating some things more than others…say like, ice cream. :) Seriously though, we need food to fuel our bodies, just as gas and oil fuel cars. I’m afraid that not many people know much about the food they are consuming and whether or not it is actually healthy for them.

These days, most people get their nutrition information straight from the food manufacturers. Now I ask you, is that a good practice? Do you really want to be listening to the very people who stand to make ALOT of money based on what you put into your mouth? I think it’s a dangerous thing to do. What about the thousands of ingredients and chemicals that do not even have to be mentioned on labels because they are used in processing? Who tells you about those? Are they really good for you?

Pre-mixed, pre-made, add water, open the can, snip the pouch, microwave. This is the foundation of what serves as an eating plan for many of us. We’re taught by commercials to believe that cooking takes too long, that we’re all too busy for it. The quicker the better. There’s a total lack of nutrition in this pre-mixed/pre-made lifestyle. You’re not getting fresh vegetables and all their fabulous vitamins, minerals and enzymes, you’re getting powdered remnants of them. You’re not eating a varied diet, an important way to get all the vitamins and minerals one needs for optimal health.

1) ELIMINATE ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS

If one is looking for a healthy way of eating, eliminating all artificial sweeteners is a great place to start. There’s not enough safety information on some sweeteners and too much clear and scary info on others.

http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-information.html http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/

http://www.bodyandfitness.com/Information/Fitness/sugar.htm

2) ELIMINATE PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OILS

A process to lengthen shelf life can shorten your life! Trans Fatty Acids created by hydogenation have been linked to cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Don’t risk it!

http://my.webmd.com/content/article/70/81100.htm http://www.recoverymedicine.com/hydrogenated_oils.htm http://www.bantransfats.com/

3) ELIMINATE CORN SYRUPS and HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUPS (HFCS)

Linked to obesity and now so very prevalent in just about every food category; tomato sauces, sodas, baked goods, even natural foods. They are also genetically modified. It’s cheap, easy to manufacture and it’s making us fat and unhealthy.

And get your hands on the op/ed piece called “A Coronary on the Cob” written by Greg Critser, author of Fat Land.

4) LIMIT PACKAGED FOODS and EAT FOOD IN ITS MOST NATURAL STATE Ultimately, food in packages has more chance of having additives and chemicals. Unnecessary ingredients can burden your body and decrease your health. You don’t need the chemicals, extra salt, sugar and saturated fat that are prevalent in packaged foods.

Today, labeling is very complex. There are many ingredients that are used in processing and manufacturing that are not required to be on the label. You truly do not know what you are getting in some packages. So save the bags, boxes, cans and make your food from scratch, whenever possible.

Eating foods in their most natural state is best. Fresh broccoli (raw and cooked) will get you the most benefit nutritionally but if you can’t get fresh, frozen is your best bet. Though be diligent about label reading as some brands again add unnecessary chemicals.

5) ELIMINATE FOOD ADDITIVES; MSG, CHEMICALS IN GENERAL, DYES Chemicals in our foods are not doing us much good. Dyes are made from coal tar (carcinogen). MSG sensitivites are well known. Our bodies are not meant to process a multitude of chemicals. We need to fuel our bodies with proper nutrition and foods that are wholesome and healthy.

http://www.msgtruth.org/ http://www.truthinlabeling.org/nomsg.html http://www.nomsg.com/ http://www.msgmyth.com/ http://www.cspinet.org/reports/chemcuisine.htm

6) ELIMINATE WHITE REFINED PROCESSED FOODS (white flour, white rice, white bread, white pasta) and INCREASE WHOLE GRAINS

These refined foods are devoid of nutrition. Empty calories. White flour has only a small percentage of the nutrition of whole grain flour.

http://www.newstarget.com/000441.html http://waltonfeed.com/grain/flour.html

Whole grains on the other hand contain the oils, the bran, and all the vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber nature intended. Whole grains are a fabulous source of fiber which has been shown to reduce colon cancer. Some rich sources are; brown rice, whole wheat, bulghur, millet, buckwheat, rye, barley, spelt, oats, quinoa.

7) EAT AT LEAST ONE SALAD and FRUIT EVERYDAY

We should be eating at least 5 servings of fruit everyday. The vitamins, minerals, phytonutritients help protect us from disease.

I’ve found that by just trying to eat one salad each day that it’s enough to keep me eating well and motivated to continue. I sometimes will have more but if I follow this one salad rule, it seems to help us eat healthy all day.

8) CHOOSE ORGANIC

I read once that the average american eats a pound of pesticides per year. Yuck! Can you imagine the toll that takes on the body (combined with all the other toxins from the environment)? The vitamin and mineral content of organic foods is said to be higher than its conventional counterparts.

9) EAT HIGH QUALITY FATS

Essential fatty acids are “essential” to optimum health. If you’re not taking an EFA supplement be sure to sprinkle freshly ground flax seeds on salads, oatmeal, in smoothies, etc. One tablespoon of ground flaxseeds a day can and will improve your health. A handful of walnuts is a great source as well. Some take fish oil but we believe the risks are too high.

Fatty Acids and Fish Oil http://www.pcrm.org/health/prevmed/ess_fat_acids.html http://borntoexplore.org/omega.htm

10) EAT 90% FOR NOURISHMENT AND 10% FOR FUN

I read this somewhere recently and I thought it really hit home. If you maintain a healthy foundation, you CAN stray and have fun eating those foods that might not be considered so healthy.

Are You Poisoning Yourself With What You Eat?

October 20th, 2008 by admin

There is a difference between good trans fats and bad trans fats. The bad trans fats have been shown to cause heart disease, cancer, and diabetes..but there is some proof that the good trans fat can aid you in getting a leaner body, muscle building, and cancer determent. Learn about the difference.

I just received the results of my annual physical exam the other day. The doctor said that my cholesterol was too high. It was lower last year by 10 points! How can it be too high this year? Anyway he wanted to put me on drugs to get it lower.

Now I%26#8217;ve been reading a lot lately about cholesterol, what causes it, and how best to lower it. I decided I would try to find a way to lower it without the drugs. I knew that the drugs could possibly cause liver damage. GREAT, not what I wanted.

Have you noticed all the side effects of almost any drug on the market? Scares me into trying to learn all I can and to find alternatives to the drugs.

My research led me to trans fats. Just what are trans fats and where do they come from. Aren%26#8217;t trans fats in any form bad for you?

There is a difference between good trans fats and bad trans fats. The bad trans fats have been shown to cause heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, but there is some proof that the good trans fat can aid you in getting a leaner body, muscle building, and cancer determent.

Over the last few years it has been stated in the news just how bad synthetic trans fats are for your health. These substances are some of the most offensive food additives and are found in the majority of all processed and fast foods on the market these days.

In their degree of danger to your health, man-made trans fats are as bad as smoking. They are one of the major factors for the outbreak of heart disease since about the 1950%26#8217;s.

The FDA has required that food manufacturers list the grams of trans fat on all nutrition labels. You now have an easier way to avoid packages with trans fat included in them.

I wanted to clear up some things, specifically about bad trans fats vs. good trans fats, with all of the talk about trans fats in the news. If you%26#8217;ve never heard of good trans fats before, let me explain.

The Good Trans Fats

The good trans fats are all natural and they are healthy for you. Natural trans fats are produced in the stomachs of animals like cattle, and sheep and make their way into the fat reserves of the animals. Therefore, the milk fat and the fat within the meat of these animals can supply natural healthy trans fats.

Natural trans fats in your diet have been thought to have some possible benefit to assist in both muscle building and fat loss attempts. However, keep in mind that the amount of healthy trans fats in the meat and dairy of animals is greatly lowered by their grain diets and methods of farming. Meat and dairy from grass-fed, free-range animals always have much higher amounts of these favorable fats.

One trans fat is called c

onjugated linoleic acid and has been retailed by many weight loss companies. Keep in mind that these man-made CLA pills may not be the top way to get natural trans fats in your diet, because they are artificially made from plant oils. Once again, man-made just doesn%26#8217;t compare to the benefits of natural sources.

The Bad Trans Fats

The bad trans fats are the man-made kind. Any artificially hydrogenated oils exemplify these. Margarine, shortening, and hydrogenated oils that are in most processed foods are the culprits. These hydrogenated oils are considerably processed using harsh chemical solvents like hexane (a component of gasoline), high heat, and pressure.

They have a metal catalyst added, and are then deodorized and bleached. A small amount of the solvent is allowed to stay in the finished oil. Somehow the FDA still lets the food manufacturers put this in our food in vast quantities, even with the well-documented health dangers.

These hydrogenated oils cause irritation internally, which signals cholesterol as a healing agent to be deposited on artery walls. Heart disease has blown out of proportion since this has been added to our food supply.

Soon science will unveil how fatal these oils really are. Eventually they will be banned from use. The labeling laws were simply the first step. Some countries around the world have already banned the use of hydrogenated oils in food manufacturing.

Most companies are replacing them, with highly refined polyunsaturated oils. These are still over processed oils using high heat, solvents, deodorizers, and bleaching agents. Even refined oils are known to yield irritation in your body…a far cry from natural sources of healthy fats.

Your body will bless you as you avoid highly processed foods completely and choose whole, natural, minimally processed foods.

Keep in mind that if an amount of trans fat is listed on a meat or dairy product, it is most likely the natural good trans fats that we%26#8217;ve talked about here. Otherwise, if the quantity of trans fat is listed on any processed foods, it is most likely the hazardous unwholesome fat from artificially hydrogenated oils.

Please stay away from these fats! Now that all of your labels should be listing grams of trans fat it will be easy to spot the bad trans fats.

Stay away from any food that lists hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils as an ingredient. Your body will thank you for it.

I hope you will use this information to arm yourself with more wholesome food choices for a healthier body. This was an intriguing look at good trans fat vs. bad trans fat that I hope you keep in mind while making food choices.

The battle to fight tooth decay

October 19th, 2008 by admin

Food manufacturers are very good at making foods and drinks very tasty and ensuring our taste buds crave for more but this is at the detriment of our teeth as they are getting stained and eroded by tooth decay.

Do you realize how important a part of your body teeth are and how easily you can damage them? Are you one of these people how cannot stop eating sweets, chewing bubble gum and drinking soft drinks? If your answer is yes, can you guess what you are doing to your teeth? To keep your teeth in good condition, you have to take care of them.

I guess you know that sweets, sugars, and artificial sweeteners have an awful effect on our teeth. Otherwise, if you can’t stop eating sweets, then you will have to brush your teeth more. The more sugar you consume, the more you should brush your teeth. If you don’t follow this advice, soon you’ll end up with tooth decay.

Tooth decay can be a major problem for people of any age. A small film of plaque constantly develops sticking to the teeth. This stickiness is what makes the acid so effective at attacking the enamel of the teeth. It keeps it in contact with the enamel.

Once the enamel has been broken down, cavities begin to form. Brushing twice daily will remove the sticky plaque formed on the teeth but if the teeth aren’t brushed daily this plaque will harden into calculus or tartar. Gingivitis can occur, which is the early stage of gum disease, if the teeth aren’t brushed regularly. It also makes brushing less effective and can even cause the gums to bleed when brushing.

The foods that can cause tooth decay even include vegetables and milk as they contain sugars and starches. You may think that cutting them out of your diet would be the right thing to do. These foods, however, should not be removed from your daily diet as they contain other nutrients necessary that contribute to maintaining a healthy body.

The ideal thing to do is read the labels on products that you buy and try to choose products that are low in added sugars. These are the same added sugars found in the types of foods mentioned above, such as crisps, candy, fizzy soda’s and cookies.

For adults to fight the major causes of gum disease as is known as periodontal disease and is the major cause of loss of teeth in adults.

Protect Your Heart With These Miracle Fats

October 15th, 2008 by admin

In recent studies performed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, over 900,000 people will die from several different types of heart disease this year. The main problem with this figure, apart from the fact that it, on average, accounts for around forty percent of all deaths, these diseases are mostly preventable. So many, if not most, of these people are dieing for nothing.

The easy way to prevent becoming a statistic like the other 899,999 people is to greatly raise your consumption of nutrients like Omega-3 and fatty acids.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention came to this conclusion, along with hundreds of other facilities, and now all scientists and health professionals are in agreement. Omega-3 and similar fatty acids can help prevent heart disease, and maybe even reverse the effects of an already present heart disease. It helps to combat the causes of high blood pressure and hypertension as well.

As we are now all aware, through advertisements in the newspaper and on the television, most of our Omega-3 comes from the fish we eat. Specifically round oily fish like Mackerel, Sardines and Salmon. Now, however, some of the larger food manufacturers are actually adding Omega-3 to their ready prepared foods. You can also purchase Omega-3 capsules, to be taken daily, from most pharmacies and health food stores.

Studies have been going on for a number of years. It has been revealed that men with a much higher than normal intake of Omega-3 and similar fatty acids are over 80% less likely to develop any kind of heart disease, if they have no family history of heart conditions. Even if they do have a history of cardiovascular diseases, the risks decrease greatly. A slightly different study was carried out on women. Around 85,000 women were tested, some eating fish between two and four times per week, and some rarely or never eating fish. Women with a lot of fish in their diet were revealed to have 30% less chance of developing any kind of heart disease.

A 1999 study called “Food intake patterns and 25 year mortality from coronary heart disease,” showed a very obvious fact. Studies were taken on people living in the U.S. and people living in other countries such as Japan. Not surprisingly, the residents of Japan, where seafood is almost a staple part of their diet, revealed a far lower heart attack or high blood pressure related fatality rate. Obviously this is due to the amount of Omega-3 that is present in the Asian diet. Over 85% of Americans do not take in enough Omega-3. The same was said about the Inuit race. These are people on a very high fat diet, although they have a much lower heart attack and high blood pressure fatality rate. This is again due to their almost exclusive seafood diet. This was discovered in 1970, yet the benefits of Omega-3 have only recently “come-out” into the press and into the world.

It is purely and simply, the chemical composition of the Omega-3 fatty acids that make them so good for you. On looking at Omega-3 strands under a powerful microscope, it is apparent that omega-3 fatty acids are long strands of polyunsaturated fatty acids. These polyunsaturates - Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) - eventually help to fight and prevent any type of cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure related illness.

As well as being incredibly good for the heart and all of its potential diseases, Omega-3 is also very good at helping to reduce the levels of cholesterol in the arteries, and is even thought to help with or stave off some forms of cancer, particularly colon cancer.

Even though the American diet is at an Omega-3 deficit, there are recommended guidelines in place, as you can effectively over-dose on Omega-3. The recommended daily allowance for EPA and DHA is around 650mg per day. It is good for pregnant women and nursing mothers to consume up to 1000mg of EPA and DHA per day. You cannot safely eat enough fish and shellfish to reach the optimum recommended Omega-3 intake. This is because of very high levels of mercury contained within the flesh of most, if not all fish. Because of this fact, scientists invented fish oil supplements.

Carlson’s fish oils and cod liver oil supplements are thought to be the best on the market to date. This is all because of the amount of Omega-3 contained within them, the strict environmental and health regulations the manufacturer must keep to, and the addition of a small amount of Vitamin E.

Flaxseed oil has recently been hailed as one of the best sources of Omega-3. This is true; however it does contain rather high amounts of Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), which means your body must struggle to try to convert this acid into a healthier fatty acid. The fatty acids inside fish oils are far easier for your body to break down, so these are definitely the best for regular use.

These fish oil supplements are now seen as a “Godsend”, all because our diets are currently seen as very poor. We are all ultimately responsible for our own health, so eat right, exercise and add some fish oil capsules to try to prevent the risk of developing any kind of cardiovascular disease. After all, you cannot rely on a doctor if you have already had a heart attack or stroke, it is usually too late.
