October 29th, 2008 by admin

Most of us want fast results when we are sick and miserable. Typically people buy non-prescription drugs over the counter because they don’t know there are other treatments available. For many health conditions using herbal remedies derived from plants is a healthy alternative. It is best to plan ahead and learn which herbal remedies may work for a specific health condition.

The following list of common herbs is an example of possible health benefits for treating some ailments. Herbal remedies are prepared in many forms such as teas, herbal extracts (tinctures), capsules or loose/dried in a bag.

Chamomile

This herb is popular as a tea and can calm nerves, relieve stomach distress, prevent ulcers, and help fight infection. Chamomile may be used to relieve morning sickness during pregnancy, to treat gastritis and ulcerative colitis, and may be used to speed healing of skin ulcers, wounds, or burns.

Dong Quia

Dong quai has been used in Asia for thousands of years as a tonic for the female reproductive system. It also balances and strengthens the female organs and regulates their functions.

Feverfew

Several studies confirm feverfew’s value in preventing migraines. Feverfew may be used as an anti-inflammatory for relief of arthritis, to relieve some types of menstrual problems, and as a digestive aid.

Garlic

More than 1,000 scientific studies have shown health benefits of garlic. Garlic has been used as protection against colds and flu. In addition, garlic may help lower cholesterol, prevent blood clots, reduce blood pressure and protect against bacterial and fungal infections. Studies have shown that garlic may have a positive role in the prevention of coronary heart disease, thrombosis and arteriosclerosis.

Ginger

Ginger has been used for centuries to control nausea and for reducing inflammation.

Goldenseal

Goldenseal is found in popular herbal blends for relieving intestinal and gallbladder inflammation. It also has been used to soothe inflamed or infected mucous membranes. Goldenseal may be used to reduce colds, flu and other respiratory infections especially at the beginning of infection. Goldenseal has both anti-infective and immune-system stimulating properties that may shorten the course of the illness.

Licorice

Licorice is an important herb for treating a host of ailments. It may help as an anti-inflammatory and to soothe stomach upset and control coughs. Licorice Root has properties similar to cortisone and estrogen. It stimulates the adrenal glands and may help the body cope with stress.

Peppermint

Peppermint oil calms the stomach, the intestinal tract, and the nervous system. It can also reduce the inflammation of nasal passages and relieve muscle pains.

SAFETY

Herbal remedies may be safer and have fewer side effects than prescription medicines. Always read the label and use only the recommended dosage. Do not take any herbs during pregnancy — check with your doctor first. If you are currently taking any prescription medicines always check with your doctor before using herbal remedies or before starting any health supplement program.

Herbs are a healthy alternative for treating many health conditions. Read and save articles like this in a small notebook and create your own research library with health benefits of each herb. There are many resources available online that outline specific health conditions and recommend herbs.

Herbs can be purchased online or at local health food stores. In addition, for treating specific health conditions, you may want to work with a naturopath or an acupuncturist.

Acupuncture - A Treatment For Fertility Problems And Reproductive Support.

Contemporary research indicates the traditional practice of acupuncture in China could profoundly impact the health of ladies contemplating in vitro fertilization procedures, or cycles as they are called. These procedures consist of several processes that are done over time, often a couple of weeks, which can leave ladies with feelings of stress, illness, or tiredness. In summary, the whole things saps the energy that is so crucial for ladies who are pregnant.

Acupuncture is an art that originated in China and has been practiced for centuries all over the globe. Although it’s considered useful for many ailments, one of the main documented uses of this treatment is to assist the female reproductive system and aid in fertility. Research seems to show that acupuncture can help the body compensate for pain and stress associated with these systems, as well as increase circulation and blood flow to certain areas. Focusing acupuncture methods on an area such as the uterus of a pregnant woman can result in a healthier birth.

To this end, acupuncture has the potential to give women back the energy they may lose during embryo transfer treatment as well as boost blood flow to the organs important to pregnancy. Studies are showing that this is in fact the case and 65% of women who receive both treatments within one day of each other benefit. This means that the success rate of the fertilization treatment is much higher with traditional Chinese medicine, than without. Despite the preliminary nature of the studies, scientists feel that this is a big step in the right direction.

Because having a child by these means can not only be a length process, but expensive as well, it is vitally important to aid the procedure along in ways that are scientifically shown to increase success. This small step, using a time tested and nearly 100% safe treatment can mean the difference between a dream come true and a nightmare for many couples. With nearly 15% of couples in a situation where conception is either difficult or impossible, improved odds can really brighten many people’s day.

The treatment of women with acupuncture has yet another benefit. While it is considered to improve conception rates to all women in general, the treatment is also 100% safe for everyone. Even women in labor can be treated with this kind of medicine with no downside for themselves or their baby. Not having to rely on medications or other pain killers, and yet getting the same result is an amazing testament to how well it works.

Acupuncture has been practiced for centuries and has proven to relieve pain and stress in the brain and body. During the period of conception, acupuncture can be used to increase blood flow in the uterus and control the female reproductive system. This period in a woman’s life may be mentally and physically taxing for a woman, so acupuncture can prove to be quite useful and promote a healthy pregnancy.

The Intricacies of the Male Reproductive System

The Intricacies of the Male Reproductive System

Male Reproductive SystemThe male reproductive system is a crucial part of the male body. Like the rest of the human body it is affected by the lifestyle, diet and exercise that the human body receives. Thus when the reproductive health of a couple is being investigated doctors may recommend a change in lifestyle, better eating habits and a more vigorous exercise routine. It has been found that in infertility cases one third are caused due to male infertility and one third are attributed to problems in the female reproductive system. The Male Reproductive System.Human anatomy is both fascinating as well as interesting to study and understand. The reproductive systems of both the male and the female body are complex and affected by several factors. Their functioning is based not just on their proper structure but also on other parts of the body and their functioning. The male reproductive system is particularly prone to infection such as that of urinary tract and needs to be paid adequate attention. Infection in males reproductive system may be a cause for infertility. It is important for men to understand the male reproductive systems and the way it functions. This enables them to understand when a problem or infection exists in the reproductive system. While hormones seem to affect the female reproductive system quite strongly, their influence on the reproductive-male is also significant.Male Reproduction and Male Infertility.Infertility may be caused by a problem in either the male or female reproductive systems. It may also be attributed to physiological incompatibility and in many cases the cause of infertility may be unknown. Common male reproductive problems include blockage in the reproductive organs, inadequate sperm count, chromosomal abnormality and weak sperm activity. Many problems can be successfully treated with a reproductive medicine. For centuries scientists and alternate medicine practitioners have been studying the human anatomy, with special emphasis on the reproduction organs, perhaps because the marvel of conception never fails to fascinate scientists. Today there are several methods by which infertility can be treated. If a couple has been unable to conceive despite having unprotected sexual intercourse for over a year, then it is recommended that they visit a fertility or infertility clinic. The doctor would first suggest for some tests to be carried out in order to determine whether both the man’s as well as the woman’s reproductive system is working optimally. Once the problem has been identified it can be resolved with drugs, a male fertility supplement or by other techniques.Alternate therapies such as acupuncture and Chinese medication may also be useful. It is found that certain herbs and teas are effective in increasing fertility. Most doctors recommend that you carry on with alternative therapies along with conventional treatment and drugs. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles at centers or points in the body where the ‘chi’ or energy in the body may be blocked. It is found to be effective in enhancing male fertility in cases where the problem is functional rather than structural. If the couple is still having problems getting pregnant despite all efforts, ivf may be considered. Like all other body parts adequate care and consideration needs to be given to the male reproductive system.

A Look At The Various Types Of Bacteria

There are different types of bacteria that can be divided into harmful bacteria and helpful bacteria. Some helpful bacteria are as follows;Fermentation is necessary to taste cheese or yogurt. Helpful bacteria like brevibacterium give carbon dioxide during the process of fermentation. Helpful bacteria are responsible for the complexity and acidity in beer.Pseudomonas Syringae is a type of bacterium found in leaves and grass and produces protein for frost formation. Now the protein from this type of bacterium is sold in a brand name to enhance the formation of snow.Caulobacter Crescentus is another helpful bacterium which has long sticky sugar molecules. They are better than glues and therefore natural and non toxic adhesive are made from these bacteria. There are billion types of bacteria around us. Most of them are helpful bacteria and they are very important for our survival. Yet there are some few harmful bacteria that cause diseases.Harmful types of bacteria are as follows;Streptococcus bacteria are one of the harmful bacteria that may cause disease in human and animals particularly mammals. They cause some small infections like strep throat and some dreadful diseases like pneumonia. Some harmful streptococci may even cause death. These bacteria are highly contagious and can spread easily through air. Group A and B bacteria are more harmful streptococcus bacteria than any other bacteria strain. They may cause scarlet fever, rheumatic fever etc. They may also cause problems in female reproductive system. However they are controllable through vaccines and antibiotics.Yet there are some harmful bacteria ha may cause gum bleeding and other teeth problems. As they progress rapidly, steps must be taken to prevent them in the early stage itself. However there are some harmful bacteria that are highly resistant to drugs. Bacteria can be classified into 3 types based on the shape. The rod shaped bacteria, Sphere shaped bacteria and Spiral bacteria are the three types of bacteria. There are some bacteria that are in different shapes and so it is difficult to classify tem according to shape. Some bacteria require oxygen for their survival while others do not. On the basis of oxygen requirement they are classified as aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. On the basis of Gram staining method bacteria are classified into two types. They are Gram positive bacteria and Gram negative bacteria. Bacteria are also classified according to their growth and reproduction. Such classification includes Autotrophic bacteria and heterotrophic bacteria. Autotrophic bacteria take the required carbon from carbon dioxide by itself. Some types of autotrophs will use sunlight to transform carbon dioxide to sugar. While heterotrophic bacteria will take sugar or carbon from the environment they live.Scientists have classified various types of bacteria according to the phyla. Each phylum then again corresponds to various species of bacteria. The bacteria can be classified according o the environment they live also. Sweet water bacteria, ocean water bacteria are some of the types of bacteria classified according to their environment. Some types of bacteria can survive in extremely hot or cold temperature.

Evening Primrose Oil, Its Benefits And More

Native Americans used the leaves and bark of evening primrose as a sedative and astringent; it was given for stomach and liver complaints as well as disorders of the female reproductive system. The oil of primrose is extracted from the seeds of the evening primrose seed. It is obtained from the seeds of the plant by pressing. Its oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid. Primrose Oil acts as a prostaglandin, which regulates the inflammation hormones in the body. Evening primrose oil is used primarily for conditions affecting women’s health, such as breast pain associated with the menstrual cycle, menopausal symptoms, and premenstrual syndrome. This oil is also recommended for oral and sometimes vaginal use, as it contains precursors to prostaglandin. It is thought that evening primrose oil relieves the symptoms of PMS by preferentially stimulating anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. Evening primrose oil contains an omega-6 essential fatty acid, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is felt to be the active ingredient, and has been recommended for many different problems. GLA is an essential intermediate step in the process our bodies use to manufacture prostaglandins. Its supposed treatments include, diabetes, obesity/weight loss, pre-eclampsia, diabetic neuropathy, chronic fatigue syndrome, raynauds phenomenon, dry skin, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, attention deficit disorder, cardiovascular health, psoriasis, schizophrenia, breast cysts, breast cancer, and multiple sclerosis.GLA and LA support the immune system, help maintain healthy skin, and help maintain healthy circulation. Primrose is rich in both GLA and LA and has been used in connection with the following conditions: Eczema, Fibrocystic breast disease, Osteoporosis (in combination with fish oil), alcohol withdrawal, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Irritable bowel syndrome, and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit. Consult your doctor, practitioner, and/or pharmacist for any health problem and before using any supplements in addition to your prescription medications. This oil can also be used as a topical preparation to treat sunburns. Primrose is also used by the body to maintain healthy hormone levels. Primrose oil is said to help lower blood cholesterol levels and it enhances the health and strength of cell membranes throughout the body, plus promotes a proper inflammation response. The GLA contained in this Oil is a nutrient used by the body to maintain overall health and wellness. Essential fatty acids are required by the body for growth and development, and must be obtained from the diet. These dietary oils support our physiological functions, and are needed for the health of our organs and entire body. GLA is an essential fatty acid which helps the growth of hair, skin and nails. While the fatty acids found in evening primrose play a role in health and disease, larger clinical studies are needed to find out whether they are useful in treating cancer or other conditions. In conclusion, evening primrose oil has not been reported as having toxic or severe side effects even at doses as high as 7000 milligrams per day. Primrose oil as well as other essential fatty acids can be obtained in health food stores in either liquid or capsule form. Evening primrose oil is available in 500 - 1350 milligram capsules. Because of its many health benefits, evening primrose seed oil is truly a wonderful supplement and should be a part of everybody’s daily supplement regiment.
