Cosmetics Precautions

Safety precautions are vital to any liposuction procedure. Caution needs to be used with when deciding whether to use any type of cosmetic, cream, or beauty product on your skin. In the quest to have glamorous body, many women forget to ensure the basic safety precautions before undergoing liposuction. There are many mishaps which happen during liposuction procedures and some extreme cases lead to death. Permanent cosmetics can help enhance appearance, and can also correct certain conditions. For those with little or no eyebrow hair, this procedure can provide more natural-looking results. Permanent cosmetics can also help cover up unsightly scars, and do not wash away, smudge, or fade in a few hours. Insert contact lenses before applying makeup and take them out prior to removing makeup. Always wash your hands before touching your contact lenses. Never use aerosol beauty products near heat or while smoking because they can ignite. Sharing makeup increases the risk of contamination. Whether applying hair chemicals at home or in a hair salon, consumers and beauticians should be careful to keep them away from the eyes. FDA has received reports of injuries from hair relaxers and hair dye accidentally getting into eyes. Cosmetics that have been improperly stored - for example, exposed to high temperatures or sunlight, or opened and examined by consumers prior to final sale - may deteriorate substantially before the expiration date. Apply eyeliner outside the lash line to avoid direct contact of the cosmetic with the eye. There also will be less chance that the liner will flake off into the eye. Never add water or another liquid to a product to bring back its original consistency. This could introduce bacteria that can easily grow out of control. Even though eye makeup removers are designed for use around the eye, they can irritate the eye. Apply them carefully to the eyelid and avoid getting them in your eye. Persons allergic to nickel should not use an eyelash curler, as the metal frame contains pickle. When at a store cosmetics counter, be sure the cosmetics demonstrator uses fresh applicators and does not let a used sample product come into direct contact with you. Stop using any product that causes an allergic reaction. Almost all cosmetics can cause allergic reactions in certain individuals. The first sign may be mild redness and irritation. Any makeup that smells funny or has lost its regular consistency should be thrown away. If you use an eyelash curler, make sure the rubber is soft, not stiff and cracking. Always use the curler before applying mascara. Don’t use eye makeup if you have an eye infection. Throw away all products you were using when you discovered the infection. If you hurt your eye while applying cosmetics, it is important that an eye doctor examine you. Sometimes a minor injury can become serious without proper medical attention. If possible, take the applicator and cosmetic with you to the doctor so that the products may undergo tests for bacteria.

DNA Identity Testing Laboratory

DNA Identity Testing Laboratory
by Jessica Castro

Although it may seem outlandish at first thought, it is becoming more common that questions of relationship surface at or around the passing of a relative. Many times, the issue is personal, that perhaps a biological relationship was never established with the now deceased relative, or was uncertain. In other situations, the issue may regard legal matters, such as inheritance of assets. Whatever the questions or reasons may be, DNA testing laboratories are experiencing a greater number of cases involving decedents.

So, then the question of how to determine the relationship arises. Of course, DNA testing is the answer, but what type of sample can be collected after a person is deceased? In theory, any human biological tissue, which contains nucleated cells, may be used for the purpose of DNA testing. However, many factors may affect the viability of a sample. If it is decided that DNA testing is necessary and a deceased individual is to be a test participant, if at all possible, a DNA sample should be secured immediately, at or around the time of death. Otherwise, it may then become more difficult to obtain a viable DNA sample. Unless the cause of death is under investigation, most bodies will be released from a morgue to an undertaker, if opted, relatively quickly. Upon release to an undertaker, embalmment, if opted, will then take place rather quickly, as well. The chemicals in embalming fluid contaminate the tissues of the body. This poses a problem if a DNA sample is to be collected from a decedent, for the purpose of DNA testing.

Recognizing the need to find a solution to this problem, the DNA Identity Testing Laboratory of Bio-Synthesis, Inc. underwent an experiment. Since it is widely known that after embalmment, the soft tissue of the body will not be adequate for DNA testing, the lab had to identify a unique source of DNA. The type of sample selected to perform the experiment was eyebrow hair. As opposed to hair from the scalp, eyebrow hair tends to be thicker in diameter and, therefore, has a more substantial root.

In nuclear DNA testing, any type of hair must have an intact root in order for nuclear DNA to be obtained. The selection of eyebrow hair over hair from the scalp was also due to the fact that many hair products have been found to act as PCR (polymerase chain reaction) inhibitors, which can prevent successful amplification of DNA (one of the steps in DNA testing).

The experiment involved eyebrow hair samples (with roots) taken from 15 embalmed cadavers, ages 20 years to 75 years. The time that the samples were taken after embalmment ranged from 8 to 24 hours. The result was that, from all samples, a full DNA profile was obtained. This is remarkable because, in many cases, non-standard, forensic samples yield only partial DNA profiles. However, in this experiment, again, full profiles were obtained from every sample. Prior to this experiment, other experiments were performed with other types of samples, nail clippings for instance, with inconsistent results.

The DNA Identity Testing Laboratory of Bio-Synthesis, Inc. has, in the past, dealt with many cases where a decedent was required to have DNA testing performed, and the body may have had to be exhumed. This process is not only invasive and time-consuming, it may be a distressing decision to make by a family member. By recognizing the need for DNA testing early on, long and complicated measures may be avoided. Family members of a decedent can then rest assured knowing that not only is their loved one at peace, they will also have peace of mind in finally having the answer to their questions of relationship.

How to Do Self Massage to Relax Yourself

Massage is a simple and natural way to attain and maintain good health and wellbeing. It helps to ease headache, insomnia, aches and pains, tension and stress. It improves circulation, aids digestion, relaxes muscles and speeds up the elimination of waste products. You can easily learn to massage yourself. You can use self massage to energize yourself after a heavy work schedule or an outdoor journey. Use massage oil if you are massaging on bare skin to decrease the friction created on the skin and to prevent the pulling of hair. Self massage - Face1. Stroke all over your face and forehead.2. Massage your temples with the fingertips of both hands.3. Gently smooth over your eyelids from the inner to outer corners with your thumbs.4. Press with your thumbs just below the inner eyebrow corner. Release then repeats. Do this three or four time.5. Stroke down the side of your face to the jawline.6. Pinch all along your jawline from ear to ear.7. Finish face by repeating step 1.Self massage - Chest1. Still lying down massage up from between your ribs across to your shoulders2. Gently press along your collarbone with your fingertips.3. Stroke down between your breasts and out to the sides across the rib cage.Self massage - Tummy1. Stroke down from the solar plexus hand behind hand to your navel.2. Stroke down from the solar plexus tracing your rib cage to your waistline with both hands.3. With hands reinforced ‘iron’ in circle all over the abdomen with even pressure.4. Squeeze up each side from your hipbones past your waist.5. Rub backwards and forwards across your lower abdomen.6. Repeat step 1.Self massage - Shoulders and neck1. Lying down massage across your upper chest and across and round your shoulders.2. Turn your head to one side and work up your neck with your hand cupped. Repeat several times on both sides.3. Work up between your shoulder blades to the base of your skull. Repeat several times.Self massage - LegsSit on the floor with your legs out stretched. Bend your right leg at the knee.1. Effleurage the front, then back, of your lower leg several times.2. Friction rubs briskly up and down all over the front and back of the lower leg. You’ll soon feel the warmth this produces as it really whips up your circulation.3. Work on the knee as in the step-by-step massage.4. Lower your leg then effleurage the thigh.5. Quickly rake up the thigh with your fingertips using both hands. This increases the circulation.6. Squeeze and release along the inner thigh then the outer thigh.7. Do diagonal stroking as in the step-by-step massage.8. Finish with effleurage. Repeat on the other leg.Self massage - Hips and buttocksLie on one side with your knees bent.1. Stroke round from your hipbone to your coccyx (sitting bone) then down and round the buttock before finishing at the hip.2. Squeeze and release on the buttock to improve circulation and tone muscle3. Gently pinch all over buttocks4. Finish by stroking the whole area.Self massage - BackYou will need to sit upright for this one!1. Reach around with both hands and starting below the waist work up as far as you can.2. Try thumb pressures on your spine, if you can reach having your fingers pointing forwards. Pressing the lower back and sacrum (top of buttocks) area really relieves backache.3. Alternatively try using a wooden back massage roller or wriggle around with your back against a rolling pin.Self massage – Scalp1. Massage your scalp as if shampooing your hair.2. Lock your fingers on to your scalp and move it over your skull. These movements increase the blood circulation and done regularly will improve the condition of your hair.3. Gently tug sections of your hair all over your head. Finish your self massage by lying down completely relaxing hands open at your sides and breathing deeply for a minute or two. Depending on which oil you have chosen you will feel deeply relaxed may be a little sleepy or invigorated and energized.

Beauty Therapy - What Can it Do for You?

October 24th, 2008 by admin

In simple terms, looking good on the outside can help us to feel better on the inside. Most of us lead busy, stressful lives which can take its’ toll on our bodies. As a result, people are increasingly feeling the need to dedicate some time to simply looking after themselves. One increasingly popular option is to indulge in a little beauty therapy.

The term ‘beauty therapy’ can be applied to a wide range of treatments for the face and body. These include facials, eyebrow shaping, eyelash tinting, manicures, pedicures, nail technology, make-up sessions, epilation, body treatments and numerous more specialised treatments.

Each treatment performed by a professionally trained beauty therapist is designed to offer specific benefits. It is important to take some time to reflect upon your ultimate treatment goals. Whether you feel that your skin needs brightening, tightening or spring cleaning, there are various options available to you. A beauty therapist is trained to be able to identify which treatments can help to enhance the appearance of your skin by improving its’ tone and texture. Having a discussion with your beauty therapist can help you to decide upon the most suitable direction in which to proceed.

One factor to consider is your skin type. Whether you have dry, normal, oily, combination or mature skin, the beauty therapist will select appropriate products to use during your treatment session. Your skin condition can be analysed simply through observation or with the aid of advanced technology capable of measuring sebum and moisture levels.

Beauty therapy does not only involve the application of products to the skin. Beauty therapists are trained to use massage techniques as part of many treatments. Benefits include increased delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin by improving blood flow and enhanced removal of toxins from the skin by encouraging lymphatic drainage. The use of massage techniques also contributes to the feelings of relaxation and calm which people often experience following beauty treatments.

Beauty therapy treatments are not only the responsibility of trained professionals. For maximal results, it is important that the good work performed by your professional is supported by your daily skin care routine. For this reason, beauty therapists often end a session by making recommendations as to which products are suitable for use at home.

Beauty therapy does not just have an effect upon your physical appearance. Hopefully, it can have a positive effect upon your psychology by contributing to greater self-confidence and thereby benefiting both your personal and professional life

Remove Your Scowl With a Brow Lift

October 24th, 2008 by admin

Brow lifts can remove years from your face, doing away with perpetual scowls, an angry appearance or simply a tired, haggard look. It’s not uncommon for people who have vision problems to need a brow lift due to the eyebrow drooping so low as to obscure the vision. Several incision techniques (or their variations) are used, depending on the judgment of Dr. James Barber, to lift the forehead area up and sometimes raise the hairline along with the brow area. The most commonly used methods are:

· Coronal

· Endoscopic

· Subcutaneous

An in-depth discussion with Dr. Barber will give you detailed explanations of each of these techniques. Dr. Barber will guide you to determine which procedure is best suited for you.

Expectations

Although a brow lift can go far toward improving problems, it is limited in the scope of what can be alleviated. Sometimes one incision method improves wrinkles in the forehead and between the eyes better than another, and that method may be what Dr. Barber advises because of other more relevant benefits or because of the way your hairline grows.

You should also not expect a brow lift to accomplish what eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) does. While a brow lift may lift the eyelid upward somewhat as a result of raising the forehead skin, blepharoplasty specifically addresses the skin of the eyelid. You should also not expect a brow lift to be appropriate for any issues of the lower face. This area is commonly worked on in the process of a face lift.

Combinations and Phases

Once you’ve outlined all your expectations, you may wish to discuss with Dr. Barber the possibility of combining procedures or having them done in phases. Depending upon your time restraints, and what your doctor advises, you may elect to have a brow lift procedure along with an eyelid lift. Or you may want to consider having a face lift as well as the brow and eyelid lifts. You may simply want the brow lift all by itself or choose to have one or more other procedures done at a later time. However, Dr. Barber will make the final determination

Bikini Waxing Tips to Help With the Pain

October 24th, 2008 by admin

The number one cause of pain in getting any type of body waxing is fear.Have you ever gotten your eyebrow waxed and found your self twitching your forehead causing that wrinkle between your eyes ? You naturally react and tighten your muscles as defense fearing that hot wax against your skin. Well for Brazilian Waxing, we are dealing with a much more sensitive area and being uptight and nervous is the worse thing you can do. So the number one and most important tip is to RELAX. You might be thinking, impossible! But it really is possible and will make a world of a difference I guarantee this alone will lesson the pain tremendously, for me it has cut off the pain by 50%. When you come in for your appointment all nervous, you tighten up your muscles and nerve endings increasing the sense of pain which sucks for you and it becomes uncomfortable for your waxologist to do her job. So how do you go from being all uptight to relaxed? Well it takes practice, you need to train your self to lay there comfortably as relaxed as possible. Once your skin is relaxed, the waxologist can then move around as she needs to. If you are like me, you probably try to hold on to something right before the pain, well stop it, this makes it worse. So for your next appointment with any body waxing your task is to take deep breaths, stop holding onto things and loosen up your muscles. In a way it is a mind game and you need to train your brain to do this. It is not impossible and it works.A good waxoligist also looks for ways to aid in lessoning the pain and she will greatly appreciate a relaxed client who will even give her a hand in holding skin so she can quickly wax off.

Being a daughter of a Brazilian Waxologist, I see new clients come in week after week to get their first ever Brazilian Bikini Wax but then they vanish and do not return on a regular basis. I know my mom is a great waxologist, one of the best so I know it was not her service but had to be something else so I asked my mother why is that? She said in a heavy Brazilian accent “because it HURTS and not everyone can take it”. If you fall into that scenario or you are a regular and you wish your BBW or other body waxing hurt less then read on!

The third important tip is to develop a routine. The more you get your body waxed, the less it hurts. Try this test, if you are getting your legs waxed, the waxologist will start on one leg and it starts hurting then it gets better, when she goes to the other leg, it starts hurting way more. Why is that? It is because your brain was letting your body know in the first leg that you are getting used to the movements and even the pain and then when it jumps to a new leg, it is a new area so your brain alerts you of the pain in the new area. So if you establish a monthly routine for yourself, not only will you train your body to the practice but your hair will start thinning out having less and less hair each time which equals to less pain.

A trick I had in getting my Brazilian Wax was to wax my legs and Bikini line on same appointment, I would wax my legs first and then do my Bikini but to my surprise during my last appointment, the waxologist said we are doing the bikini area first and that is final. I was like YIKES, I am in trouble. She said it would be better to get the worst part done first, and to my astonishment she was absolutely right. It was over with so quickly which gave me a confidence and I felt like oh I can do that again and it really did hurt less. I was so shocked and threw my little trick out the window so now it is time to throw yours out and try these tips mentioned above in order for you to enjoy the results of your body waxing even more.

This brings me to the second important tip, finding a good waxologist. Nowadays almost every nail joint has a sign that says WAXING and some even say Brazilian Waxing but that does not mean they know how to properly wax.So do your homework, ask for referrals and go to a professional. On my next article I will give you a check list for tips on finding a good waxologist. Once you know you found someone you can trust and are comfortable with, then your body waxing experience is more relaxed and thus less painful.

The reason why I am talking about pain is because I am not tolerant to it, I am a wus and I do not even get the full Brazilian Waxing done so I am the first to need this advice because waxing is a vital part of my life, it is part of the beauty aspect in being a woman.

Lack of Iodine and Silica Can Create Hair Loss

October 22nd, 2008 by admin

Iodine is vital to your hair growth. Sheep farmers long ago found that vegetation-lacking iodine due to iodine-depleted soil would adversely affect the growth of wool in their sheep. Likewise, to avoid hair loss, you need iodine. Iodine is synthetically added to table salt, however in this form it is not assimilated well into your body and can therefore cause iodine overload.

An excess of iodine in the body can adversely affect the thyroid. The lack of iodine can cause hypothyroidism. In hypothyroidism, your cell metabolism slows down and body cells and hair cells don’t receive the energy they need to function properly. When you lack iodine, you will lose more hair than normal and may even lose eyebrow hair. You can check your thyroid with a basal thermometer, not a digital thermometer, by placing it in your underarm first thing when you wake up. Then, don’t move for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, look at the temperature. The normal body temperature for good thyroid function is 97.8 to 98.2 degrees C. Take this measurement for 5-10 day. If your temperature is below 97.6 and lower, for the 5-10 days, you will want to consult your doctor or for more direction and information. You definitely have low thyroid function.Menstruating women should start this 5-10 day check on the 3rd day of their cycle. It is best to use non-iodized salt and get your iodine from natural foods. These include seaweed, salmon, seafood, lima beans, molasses, eggs, potatoes with the skin on, watercress and garlic.SilicaOne of the most difficult nutrients vital to your hair growth to get in your diet is trace mineral silica. Silica is a form of silicon and is the second most abundant element in the earth’s crust

, second only to oxygen. The Earth provides everything we need for health, and with silicon being so abundant, it would seem that there would never be a problem with silica deficiency.Unfortunately, trace minerals are rare in our diets because our food is processed and our soil depleted by chemical treatments. Silica provides strength to your hair, and although it will not necessarily stop your hair from falling out from the follicle, it will stop hair breakage.Silica works by stimulating your cell metabolism and formation, which slows the aging process. Foods that are rich in silica are rice, oats, lettuce, parsnips, asparagus, onion, strawberry, cabbage, cucumber, leek, sunflower seeds, celery, rhubarb, cauliflower, and swiss chard. Try to buy these vegetables from organic sources. Note that many of these foods, particularly rice, are a large part of Asian diets and Asians tend to have the strongest and healthiest hair. For best results eat all your fruits and vegetables raw. For certain vegetables that need to be cooked, steam them for only a few minutes.Be sure to test your thyroid even though doctor’s tests show you do not have a thyroid problem. The basal temperature test is sometimes more sensitive than blood tests taken by doctors. If you have hyperthyroidism, you will definitely have hair loss.Rudy Silva has a degree in Physics and is a Natural Nutritionist.
