The Best Water Treatment System - How You Can Find It

The Best Water Treatment System - How You Can Find It

Finding the best water treatment system can be a challlenge. Especially if you don’t know what to look for? Let me give you some pointers. There many water purification methods on the market. Some include the oldest technology, some include the latest. Here’s a brief overview.UV or ChlorineIf you have a well, the presence of pathogens is a threat that you have to deal with. There could be bacteria, giardia and a host of other microbes that cause waterborne illnesses. Those of you who are serviced by public waterworks must only be concerned about cysts. For many years, chlorine was the only affordable option for well owners to use for disinfection. The use of chlorine created additional problems. It ruined the taste and the smell, but was also hazardous for your health.Public facilities sometimes use both UV disinfection and chlorine to keep the pipes free of bacteria. But, they also use chlorine simply because it’s cheaper. Until recently, UV disinfection was not practical for homeowners, but now, you can avoid the use of chlorine and still disinfect with UV light. The systems are small and affordable. It’s the best water treatment system for microbial pathogens. If only cysts are present, you should remember that they are resistant to both UV and chlorination. They can only be removed through submicron particle filtration.DistillationThis is the oldest of your options. The technology has literally been around for thousands of years. The systems will remove bacterial contaminants, cysts, minerals and any contaminants with a boiling point lower than water’s own. Chemical contaminants will remain in the final pot.Distillers are impractical for a number of reasons. It is not possible to clean large quantities at a time. Maintenance is extensive. The first pot must be cleaned before each use. They are expensive and use a lot of energy. It is certainly no the best water treatment system available today.Reverse OsmosisFor many years, this was the best water treatment system available, but technology has advanced. RO does not remove chemical contaminants. Like distillation, it removes minerals, so the taste is stale and not good for your health.RO units are expensive to purchase, install and maintain. They are large, loud and create gallons of unusable wastewater. They require electricity to operate and do not remove bacterial contaminants. They may remove cysts if the pores are small enough.Multi-stage Selective FiltrationThis includes a variety of steps that target specific contaminants. Although they will not remove bacteria, such as E-coli, the better systemsinclude submicron filtration, in order to remove cysts. They include ion exchange to remove lead and filtering media that removes synthetic and organic chemical contaminants, such as chlorine, THMs and VOCs. But, the systems don’t remove minerals, so you have something good tasting and healthier to drink.Units can be purchased to install in the kitchen for drinking and cooking. They are available for showerheads, where chemical exposure is even more hazardous. Or, they can be installed at the point-of-entry to clean up the waters for the entire house.See resource box for more information to help choose the best water filtration system. Selective filtration is truly the best water treatment system.

Great 24 hour Moisturizer Makes you look Younger

I dont want to over hype any skin care product, you have already seem hundreds on retail stores and advertisements, but having a 24 hour moisturizer will help you smooth, soften, plump up and the surface of your skin. It should re-hydrate and nourish your skin so it keeps looking softer. The skin has its own moisturizer which is the production of seat and sebum. The job of sebum is to lubricate your skin and sweat provides a mechanism to defend your skin against bacteria. One important tip is to massage your moisturizer twice a day to help the circulation and tone of your skin.As we age our skin loses its natural ability to moisture it self and thats why we need to use moisturizers to prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Is recommended to only use a small amount of moisturizer so you dont complicate the skins natural production for moisturiser. If you have dry skin, your skin will need special attention but dont overdo it, is not necessary to use heavy moisturisers. However moisturizing is just a short term solution for wrinkles and fine lines, this means that it is just one piece of the puzzle, there are different causes of aging that you need to prevent by using a good anti aging cream. Most anti wrinkle creams in the market are not very effective or do not target the main causes of aging, on the other hand there are also many popular creams that are made of chemicals which drys, irritates and hurts the skin, thus causing more wrinkles. There are a few companies that produce natural anti aging products that moisturize your skin and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin within your body, that makes you gradually reduce wrinkles and fine lines. There are creams for different purposes and you might want to use one age defense day cream and other restorative night cream in order to keep your skin protect it and slow aging 24 hours a day.

How Vaccines Work by Peter Nisbet - ArticleCity.com

October 29th, 2008 by admin

When an organism gets into your body and causes an infection, your body gathers its defences and fights against them. This is the basic principle of how vaccines work.

Certain cells in your blood make what are called ‘antibodies’, molecules which are designed to attack specific germs and viruses. These attach to the invaders in your bloodstream and prevent them from invading other cells. Each virus or bacterium has an individual shape, and the antibodies are designed to fit exactly to that shape.

This is how vaccines work to convince your body that the vaccination is a ‘full-blooded’ attack by the offending viruses or bacteria, and stimulate them into action to develop the ‘memory’ or ‘blueprint’ for the antibody in the event of future invasion.

This is all done by your white blood cells. You have two types called B cells and T cells. The B cells manufacture the antibodies while the T cells have two functions. The ‘helper’ T cells help the B cells to make the antibodies while the ‘killer’ T cells kill any cells which have been invaded by the viruses or bacteria, and prevent them from reproducing. . How vaccines work to stimulate this action is to mislead the white cells into believing that your body has been infected.

Your body reacts to kill the invaders in two ways: directly through the antibodies, and indirectly through the T cells destroying any infected cells and preventing reproduction.

Viruses cannot reproduce by themselves: they have to use the host’s cells for this. If the T cells continually kill off any invaded cells, the invaders themselves must eventually be killed off by the antibodies If the virus or bacterium is strong and reproduce too quickly, the host can be overcome before it can produce enough antibodies to kill them off. The pus which occurs during an infection is the mix of dead white blood cells and bacteria/virus cells destroyed by them.

If your body survives the attack, your B cells retain a memory of the structure of the invaders and should the same viruses or bacteria ever return, antibodies can rapidly be produced and the infection killed off before it starts. The stimulation of this memory is exactly how vaccines work.

Vaccines produce the same memory effect without the patient having to suffer the disease. The organisms that cause the disease are either killed or weakened, then introduced into your body. The strength is calculated to be just enough to enable your white cells to manufacture the antibodies. This is how vaccines work to give you protection against future infection without actually making you ill. The strength of the vaccine is designed to allow this. The dead vaccine can also work, but less efficiently, and the effect is not generally as long lasting.

The ‘live’ vaccines produce life-long immunity after only one or two doses, but the ‘dead’, or ‘inactivated’, ones need multiple doses to get the correct effect. Some dead vaccines even need booster doses throughout your life. Examples of these are tetanus and diphtheria vaccines, normally given together every 10 years as the Td vaccine. The measles vaccine is an example of a ‘live’ vaccine’.

Vaccinations do not affect your ability to fight off other infections you have not been immunized against

The Things You Shouldn’t Do If You Have Acne by Jason Rickard - ArticleCity.com

October 29th, 2008 by admin

There is so much going on about acne that sometimes you don’t really know what to believe. The biggest problem is that left with no one solution you get confused and try several solutions at one time. Then to your dismay none of the solutions work. To treat acne you have got to be aware of what’s causing it, what is making it worse, and what makes it better. With the right knowledge at hand, you will know what it is that is causing the acne, so you automatically avoid it. This knowledge can give you a head start in your pursuit to eliminating acne.

First and foremost, you must change your sleeping conditions. I do not mean you pursue a new style of sleeping but instead simply the environment on which you sleep has to be clear of bacteria. If you think about it for a moment you will realize the one thing that most puts you at risk during sleep is your pillow. Can you imagine how much bacteria is on your pillow cover? Every time you go to sleep you expose your facial skin to your pillow cover and bacteria are exchanged from the pillow cover to your face and from your face to the pillow cover. Knowing this, you should never sleep using the same pillow cover twice. Change it everyday. As simple as it may seem, this is one of the main places you acquire acne. Ever wondered why even after applying all the prescribed creams you still wake up to find a new pimple in the morning? Now you know why. By the way this goes the same with your towel.

Acne as harmless as it may seem, is actually very contagious. Meaning if you rub it from one area onto another, it will grow in the new area. So at all times you must avoid touching and rubbing your face. This is not easy, believe me I know but this exercise can teach you self discipline. Even while you’re washing your face try to keep the rubbing to a minimum, you don’t want it moving from one place to another on your face.

Although highly controversial as to whether it is true or not, you should watch your diet closely. Some foods have been reported to increase acne activity and you should stay away from these types of food. This mainly includes junk food and deep fried fatty foods. Try to go vegetarian while you have acne yet you can still eat fish, but at all costs avoid any high fat foods.

When using a doctor prescribed medication or treatment including ointments, then by all means stick to it. Sometimes and very often, most acne balms dry out your skin, so try to visit the doctor on a regular basis. Never overdose as this will cause really adverse skin reactions and try just stick to the program. It usually takes anywhere from three to four weeks before you see any results so be patient and as mentioned before don’t over do it thinking it will get rid of the acne faster.

The above are a few very simple things most people overlook. If you can avoid what has been outlined above and do what was suggested, then your acne will decrease rapidly. Don’t try to rush the results, patience and persistence will eventually pay off with clear facial skin.

Information On K Vitamin

Information On K Vitamin

The K vitamin is essential for the blood to clot to repair injuries. Whenever a person has a bleeding wound, it is the K vitamin that is present in the blood that stops the bleeding and enables most minor cuts to heal quickly. There are three different forms of the K vitamin. The first variant of the K vitamin is vitamin K1, also known as phylloquinone. This is the form of the K vitamin that is found in types of plant foods. Vitamin K found in plant foods. The second form of the K vitamin is the vitamin K2, or menaquinone. This type of the K vitamin is formed by friendly bacteria in the intestines. Thirdly, there is vitamin K3 which is also known as menadione and is actually an artificial form of the K vitamin. All three of these types of K vitamin end up in the liver where it is used to create the blood clotting substances. The best natural sources of the K vitamin are green leafy vegetables, such as spinach. However, because the friendly bacteria in the intestine makes one of the forms of the K vitamin it is extremely rare for a person to have a deficiency of the K vitamin and so K vitamin supplements are not needed by the majority of people. Apart from the main function of helping blood to clot, the K vitamin, specifically the Vitamin K1, has an important part to play in the bone building process. This K vitamin is required to retain the calcium in the bones and redistribute it to where it is needed. Although a K vitamin deficiency is relatively rare there are certain groups of people who may suffer from it. Newborn babies may not have enough of the K vitamin as they have insufficient bacteria in their intestines to produce it. The majority of newborn babies in developed countries are therefore given a K vitamin injection to tide them over until the natural process takes over. That is the only time that a K vitamin supplement will be taken by most people throughout their lives. However, an extended course of antibiotics may lead to a K vitamin deficiency due to the fact that the antibiotics kill the intestinal bacteria as well as the ones that they are being taken to cure. Again, a K vitamin supplement may be given if the course of antibiotics has to continue for a long period of time.

Electric Toothbrush Applications by John Gibb

October 29th, 2008 by admin

Electric Toothbrushes can help to motivate a person to brush as we see that really bad brushers do not have enough motivation to brush well. But with an electric Tooth brush he will brush longer, more frequently, or both. A person might take a greater interest in brushing because they see evidence that their Electric toothbrush is cleaning their teeth much more effectively than when they brush with a manual Toothbrush.

An electric Toothbrush can be an effective aid in the fight against Gum disease. The use of an electric toothbrush, either high-end rotary or sonic, has been shown to improve the oral health of those persons who have periodontal disease, and the use of the Electrical tooth brush has made much improvements to their disease conditions.

It should be noted that the gingivitis causing bacteria live in the gaps between the teeth and the gums. Using an electric tooth brush at higher speeds these will be flushed out thereby giving more opportunities to improvements in the Dental diseases.

Electric toothbrushes can help to remove or minimize tooth staining. Using of electric toothbrushes minimizes tooth staining. Nowadays everybody wants to have white teeth. But it must be noted that the color of your teeth is determined by the intrinsic color of your teeth and the extrinsic staining of the teeth.

The scrubbing effect of an electric toothbrush, over time and with continued use, can dislodge some or possibly even all of the surface stain found on a tooth and therefore have a whitening effect. In order to have better results your electric toothbrush must be allowed to scrub for a few extra seconds each time you brush in those areas where staining tends to accumulate.

The extrinsic staining or the “surface stain.” also determines the coloration of your teeth and you can find that this type of discoloration has been removed after you have had a professional dental cleaning. Extrinsic staining lies on the surface of a tooth.

You may find that in some areas the staining that has formed is too heavy or tenacious to be completely removed by your electric toothbrush and can only be removed by having a professional dental cleaning. The abrasive effect of the dentist’s or hygienist’s hand tools and cleaning pastes can scrub this surface stain off.

However, once removed it would be expected that the use of an electric toothbrush would be able to eliminate or at least significantly minimize the gradual return of staining to these areas.

Detailed Information on Necrotizing Enterocolitis

October 29th, 2008 by admin

Detailed Information on Necrotizing Enterocolitis
by Juliet Cohen

Necrotizing enterocolitis is the death of intestinal tissue. The illness is most common among premature newborns. Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) occurs in approximately 25,000 babies per year. Many newborns who develop necrotizing enterocolitis survive and go on to live healthy lives. But if the infection becomes severe, it can cause serious damage to or holes in the intestinal tissue. NEC typically occurs within the first 2 weeks of life, usually after milk feeding has begun (at first, feedings are usually given through a tube that goes directly to the baby’s stomach).

The consequence of necrotizing enterocolitis is not clear. It is believed to occur when the immune and digestive systems do not grow properly. This can happen when a baby is born prematurely or when there are complications during pregnancy or delivery. Bacteria in the intestine may also be a result. In the most severe cases, necrotizing enterocolitis can be fatal. Necrotizing Enterocolitis is equally affected both male and female. Babies with too many red blood cells in the circulation are at an increased risk of developing NEC. This thickens the blood and makes oxygen transport more difficult.

Babies with gastrointestinal infections are at an increased risk of developing NEC. Babies who have had a difficult delivery or lowered oxygen levels are at an enlarged risk for developing NEC. A baby’s symptoms depend on how severe the condition is. The primary symptoms vary and may involve feeding intolerance, abdominal distension, bloody stools, apnea, lethargy, temperature instability or hypoperfusion. In newborns who have mild to moderate necrotizing enterocolitis, treatment consists of intravenous (IV) feeding, antibiotics, and removing extra fluids. Intravenous fluids are given to maintain hydration.

About 70% of newborns with necrotizing enterocolitis do not require surgery. If the intestine perforates, then surgery is needed. Surgery may also be required if the condition progressively worsens despite treatment. Pharmacologic therapy includes agents to treat the developing disease and those to provide supportive and symptomatic relief. Different antibiotic regimens can be used; one frequently used regimen includes vancomycin, cefotaxime, and clindamycin or metronidazole. This combination provides broad gram-positive coverage, excellent gram-negative coverage (with the exception of pseudomonads), and anaerobic coverage.

Choose The Right Floss

October 28th, 2008 by admin

Choose The Right Floss
by Fraser Hendrie

Here is another part of our series on choosing the best home care products to look after your smile to keep it looking gleaming and white. Today we are focusing on dental floss. In many years as a dentist in Edinburgh, I have discovered that many people really do not like to floss. Now while learning to do this well is not easy starting with the right tools for the job will make a difference to your chances of success and keeping a healthy smile for life.

There are thousands of brands of floss out there to choose from some good some not so well and some are downright awful.

First tip, forget about floss and buy DENTAL TAPE. Floss is made of a round fiber which usually takes more force to get in between your teeth and is more likely to cause pain as it hits your gum..OUCH!! It also misses many bits that tape will get into.

If you have a heavily restored mouth with lots of fillings, then flossing is very important to you. In between the back teeth will never (yes NEVER) get cleaned without using tape or something similar. If you have fillings or crowns then there are even more potential places for bacteria to lurk. Think what would happen if you never washed between your toes.

Very smooth tapes that slip very easily between the teeth are easier to use but tend to spread the bacteria that we are trying to remove. So you do need a tape that has a bit of “grab” to it and this is why Waxed or Coated tape is better.

Waxed or Coated tape is also better because it shreds less and will be less likely to get stuck between your teeth.

Look, too for Monofilament tape, this means that instead of it shredding it will break cleanly if it hits a sharp edge on a filling or crown. This again avoids that horrible feeling of having a bit of last nights floss stuck in between your teeth the next morning!

If you are regularly getting dental tape stuck in just one or two areas, then let your dentist know as it can mean there is a problem.

Finally one last tip, wash your hands thoroughly after flossing as some of the mint flavored coatings can really sting if they get in your eyes. Do not ask how we know!

SUMMARY

1. Buy TAPE not FLOSS

2. Look for WAXED or COATED tape

3. Change brand until you find one that does not shred

4. If all tapes shred in a specific area let the dentist know

5. Ask our hygienist for a demonstration of the Perfect flossing technique

6. If you are still having problems then maybe you need to try other methods of cleaning between your teeth.more in a future issue.

As ever the information above is good for MOST people, for advice and assistance specific to your own situation, we always recommend that you seek professional advice from a suitably qualified person.

The Kombucha Tea, Millenary truth or many years old fantasy

October 28th, 2008 by admin

The Kombucha Tea, Millenary truth or many years old fantasy
by Arnoldo Echavarren

This ancient beverage has been invoked as a wonderful cure by many individuals and a poison or fancy stories by others, this without grey arguments.

The profuse information that can be found at the Web, teaches about the culture preparation, explores its origins, mentions some technical data but, on the contrary, does not appear a clear scientific explanation of how it acts, namely pharmacodynamics of the active ingredients and also about these, there is no unanimity. A lot of authors mention many chemicals that for other authors do not exist.

Our group has been working on developing a fermented beverage, based on bacteria and yeast that are used in brewing beer, cider, vinegar and wine.

We decided to begin, in parallel, the culture of Kombucha and once we systematize the methodology, we started carrying out tests on volunteers.

Also, to differentiate our culture, from the traditional, we started testing the addition of herbal extracts, at different times of the process.

This story refers only to observations made with the traditional Kombucha tea, without the addition of herbs. We do not have enough evidence to say that what is stated is statistically significant, as we do not have the possibility to measure accurately many of the results we have attained.

Keeping the kombucha culture within certain parameters, acidity, temperature and fermentation times, as well as the basic substrate of the crop (tea and sugar), we can say that there are properties that have been expressed fairly constant.

In addition, through the addition of herbs extracts, we have succeeded in enhancing such effects or properties. We continue to work with new additions and testing techniques that emerged during fermentation processes.

One of the more clear items that are achieved with regular consumption of this tea, is the improvement of health welfare, with greater expression of physical energy and mental recovery. Organic defenses are increased as well.

It seems that I have several years less, is one of the most frequent comments of the volunteers, after about 3 or 4 months of consumption. It is true I have experienced this myself, after almost a year to consume only one glass daily.

In particular the memory is one of the areas where improvement is evident with greater clarity. It is not only the memory of many years back, experienced by the elderly people, is the memory of every day, the lists of things to do or buy, what happened yesterday, last week or last year.

Although it is difficult to measure, at least in the normal life of a person, a number of volunteers have commented that, while consuming the tea, sexual activity became better. If its consumption is stopped for a few days, this activity decreases significantly, but reassume the previous level as soon as the treatment is regained.

Despite its acidity, a pH between 2.8 and 3.5, does not cause gastric troubles. By contrast, drunk between meals increases gastric and intestinal motility and improves digestive processes.

There is a significant improvement in eye sight, in most cases, where there are no serious problems like myopia, cataracts, etc., but this problem is due to the year passage. Put in other words, had achieved a decrease in the graduation of lens crystals.

Another of the accomplishments achieved with the continued consumption of Kombucha tea, for several months, is the transformation obtained in the skin. Decreased skin spots, elasticity improvement and so forth a quite important decrease in the appearance of wrinkles, at least in people younger than 70 years.

The hair and nails are another of the organic components that presents a positive response. My mother, 90 years, said that she had never seen her nails to grow that much, but with his hair things are not so clear.

Going on with the family, I am personally one of the male individuals favored by genetic, at the age of 60 I began to loose hair on both sides of the forehead. First I tried with a lotion that we had developed years ago and it worked. Then, when I started drinking Kombucha tea, the response was similar. This has happened with other male volunteers. There are more detailed data on my blog.

In women it has been achieved, in most cases, an arrest of the fall and in some cases, we noticed a restore of hair growth.

The control and reduction of varicose veins, at least those not very severe was another very positive success. Back to the case of my mother and other very elder individuals, I could see it vividly. It was a pity that I can not convince my mother to let me get pictures of her legs, to include in the blog or in future websites.

There anything else I want to comment briefly. In another article I have told how a vocal chord tumor was successfully treated with radiotherapy. At that time I tried also with Kombucha tea, but with the addition of herbs to enhance immunity and reduce inflammation. I managed to avoid almost completely the inflammatory reaction so common in individuals treated with X-rays.

I can not say that this will happen with all those who are to be treated with X rays. We are trying to test this in other people, although so far we have failed to get volunteers.

Another series of achievements we have obtained with Kombucha tea associated with herbal extracts, as I commented at the beginning, are described in other places, since these are recipes that we have for sale.

On the other side, properties that are claimed by kombucha fans could not be attained in our tests.

Arthritis and rheuma, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, headaches, kidney diseases, weight loss, diabetes, allergies, wounds, are some of the ailments that could not be ameliorated.

I assume the compromise, for the next article on this topic, to bring in accurate figures and more technical results. We are working on this direction.
