However, your body does have to work hard, so it’s important to eat well and keep active to help it to cope.Weight And DietYour body uses up a lot of energy during pregnancy, and you need to eat well to fuel your requirements and those of your growing baby. You could reasonably increase your in take of food by 200-300 calories a day and expect to put on 20-30 1b (9-15 kg) in weight, much of which is accounted for by the baby, uterus, and amniotic fluid. Pregnancy is not a time to go on a diet, but you should also forget the myth about eating for two, the rule is to eat to satisfy your hunger, and no more. Later in pregnancy, you may find you simply can’t take in much food at any one time, so eat little and often. Hair grows and falls in phases pregnancy often prolongs the growth phase, making thin hair thick and glossy, whereas thick hair may become dry and unmanageable. The down side is that you’ll experience hair loss after the birth, although it’ll grow back eventually. Although they grow faster, nails also become brittle. Keep them short and use creams to keep them moist. Skin Estrogen gives your skin the legendary bloom of pregnancy, but dry skin becomes drier and greasy skin more oily. Patches of brown pigment (chloasma) may appear on your face and neck but will eventually fade. All skins deepen in color with browning of the nipples and a line down the abdomen. Tiny dilated capillaries (spider naevi) on the face are common but disappear later. Stretch marks on the breasts, thighs, and abdomen are very common. But most marks will fade after the birth.

Cradle Cap and Its Causes

Cradle Cap and Its Causes

Otherwise known as seborrheic dermatitis, cradle cap is a neonatal disease commonly found among the babies of two to three months of age. It has been given some other names like crusta lactea, milk crust, honeycomb disease etc. The area that the disease affects becomes yellowish, patchy, greasy, and scaly. It generally occurs on the scalp of a newborn baby. Places like the nearest side of ear, the eyebrows and the eyelids are the commonest among the areas where this skin condition occurs. However, it may occur in other parts of the body as well. In this case, it is known more as seborrheic dermatitis than as cradle cap. In most of the cases, the disease is rather mild; in rare cases it can be severe. The exact reason behind cradle cap has not been defined properly. This is probably because the disease is harmless and do not irritate the baby in any way. So, it is not thought to be necessary to make extensive research on its cause. Moreover, the disease disappears within a few years, two to three years, even without any serious treatment.Yet, research made on the real cause behind cradle cap has come out with various consequences with the result that dermatologists are not unanimous on this issue. Some of them opine that the disease is caused by over active sebaceous glands in the skin of the baby. These glands are passed to the baby from her mother and remain active in the baby’s circulation. There are other dermatologists who opine that cradle cap has something to do with skin yeasts known as Malasezia furfur. A third group of specialists believe that the skin condition occurs due to immature digestive system of the baby. The digestive system of a newborn cannot absorb sufficient biotin and other vitamins of the B-complex; hence the disease occurs.

Why Vitamin Water Is Presently One Very Popular Product On The Market

Why Vitamin Water Is Presently One Very Popular Product On The Market

Produced by Energy Brands, Inc., vitamin water is one of the main products of the company together with smart water, fruit water and vitamin energy. Each of these beverages is a combination of fruity extracts and vitamins meant to appeal to anyone interested in healthy hydration. The company was founded in the mid 90s after a water scare in New York City, and their products are presently distributed all over the United States. The composition of the vitamin water is pretty complex, as it relies on the B complex and on the antioxidant E and C vitamins; the sweetener is crystalline fructose completed by citric acid and a variety of flavors.Vitamin water contains only distilled and deionized water enriched with a variety of herbal extracts. Each flavored variety has a distinct vitamin and mineral structure: thus, Tropical Citrus relies on guarana and vitamin B, Kiwi and Strawberry on vitamin A and lutein, whereas the Raspberry-Apple includes vitamin C and zinc. There are plenty of other combinations each of them with a very appealing title; vitamin water with names like “Revive”, “Defense”, “Balance”, “Energy”, “B-Relaxed” and so on, cannot but impress the target customer with the pro-health message.Vitamin water is presently one very popular product on the market, due to the efforts many people are taking towards healthy nutrition and hydration habits. Nevertheless, there are several objections to the extended or exclusive use of vitamin water on a regular basis. The first issue comes from the fact that there are chemical substances like the “citric acid” in the composition, which is not exactly totally harmless and friendly for the body. Then, many people may wonder about the flavors and the color pigments of vitamin water: are they natural? Do they use herbal extracts? Another scientific debate is centered on the use of fructose as a sweetener.Apparently, recent studies have revealed the fact that fructose is a compound that when used in excess can affect the liver function. Hence, it may be a fruit extract, but not all scientists consider it safe too. Therefore, we could definitely say that opinions are pretty divided when it comes to reviewing a product like vitamin water. The thing is that for many people this type of beverage is the healthier alternative to soft drinks: there’s no sugar, and the vitamin supplement brings the boost of energy the body needs. Consequently, it is up to each and every one of us to decide whether vitamin water works or not.

Wrinkle Reducers - Natural Ways to Make Skin Look Younger and Healthier

October 24th, 2008 by admin

Many people want to avoid buying expensive and questionably effective wrinkle reducing creams and lotions, but they still want to reduce the signs of premature aging. Wrinkles such as crow’s feet and fine lines on the forehead, for example, are often bothersome and might make you look older than you are. The problem is that after buying special eye cream, nighttime lotions, daytime lotions, exfoliants, etc., your night table will be full while your wallet will be empty! In order to stay young looking, with vibrant, smooth, and youthful skin, but without breaking the bank on expensive wrinkle reducer creams, you can start by following these general guidelines: 1. Take good care of your skin with natural products such as a good cleanser, a mildly abrasive soap or scrub, and any popular oil-free moisturizing cream. If you haven’t already, you should develop a morning and evening skin care routine.2. Wear sunscreen, even if it is a low SPF that still allows you to get a little color. The sun’s rays can cause skin to look older, so it is important to block at least some of them out. To make things simple, you may be able to find a moisturizer that you use in step one that contains sunscreen. 3. Take a vitamin supplement with vitamins C, E, A, K and B complex, and minerals. Many vitamins that are formulated for people who are “active” or “stressed” work well. 4. Exercise has been proven to slow the signs of aging such as wrinkles. It will also make your skin look younger, smoother, and healthier.5. Your nutrition is vital for skin care and wrinkle reducing, and you should create recipes that are rich in the vitamins mentioned above (C, E, A, K, and B complex). For example, adding Mandarin oranges to your salad adds vitamin C, while carrot shavings that are a part of a chicken recipe add vitamin A. 6. Some “home made” products do work as wrinkle reducers, though you should be careful to make sure that the information is coming from a reputable source. Prevention Magazine, for example, often has information like this. The above wrinkle reducers are safe and easy to use, and will save you the money you would have spent on highly marked up creams and lotions.

Fibromyalgia And Candida — Is There A Link?

October 24th, 2008 by admin

Birth control pills, anti-inflammatory drugs, cortisone, yeast laden foods, diet high in sugar are all major culprits in upsetting the bodies’ natural balance. When candida infects the vagina, it results in vaginitis characterized by large amounts of white cheesy discharge and intense itching and burning. When the infection is in the mouth, it appears as white soars on the tongue, gums and inside of the cheeks. Candida can appear in the form of athlete’s foot, jock itch and diaper rash in babies.

Thrush is a buildup of candida that can effect men and women alike. As many as seventy-five percent of women will experience at least one vaginal yeast infection in their lifetime caused by an overgrowth of candida.

If you can get away with it, avoid wearing underwear at all. Another suggestion is to wear a loose gown or something that doesnt bind in the crotch area with no underwear.

Adult humans have 3 to 4 pounds of beneficial bacteria, numbering about 70 trillion individual organisms, living in our digestive system. Yeast is present in every one of us. The shear strength in numbers of the beneficial bacteria keeps yeast in check. They are in charge and make yeast produce vitamins, such as the B complex, within our bodys. If this balance is altered by reducing the good bacteria, yeast, being very opportunistic, will spread and take over as a yeast infection or as a fungal parasite or candida (mold), causing a wide variety of unhealthy side effects and diseases.

Treatment of your sex partner is not usually necessary if you have a yeast infection. It is rare that the condition is transmitted sexually. However, if a male partner shows symptoms of Candida balanitis (redness or irritation at the tip of the penis), he may need to be treated with an antifungal cream or ointment.

Most people think of yeast infections, also known as candidiasis, as a plague only upon women. But men can also develop candidiasis, especially those who are uncircumcised. A man with yeast typically shows no symptoms, but each time his partner is treated and gets rid of her infection, he reinfects her. So if you’re a woman who’s been having problems with yeast infections, be sure your partner is checked, too: Both of you might need some of these herbal remedies.

Many herbs have the ability to conquer yeast. Calendula, goldenseal, rosemary, cedar, and myrrh all have antifungal properties. Make strong decoctions or infusions of these herbs to ease itching and burning; use either internally as a douche or apply externally with pads that have been soaked in it.

Sarah Rhodes suffered from chronic yeast infections for many years before finally discovering a natural, permanent cure that works. Read about Sarah and the secret that permanently cured her yeast infections at: yeastinfectionsnomore.com

What is a multi vitamin health food?

A multi vitamin supplement is aimed to provide the human body with all the essential and non-essential nutrients it needs. The advantage is that you only have to take one or a few pills to ensure all the nutrients necessary for your body to function properly. A multi vitamin can help you prevent both mineral and vitamin deficiencies. Multi vitamins are used by a large number of people to increase the level of essential nutrients in their body and get all the benefits provided by these supplements.

What should such supplement include?

It generally contains at least 100% and sometimes even more of the daily amount of essential vitamins you need to keep yourself healthy. Although not all multi vitamins contain minerals as well, in some cases they even exceed the 100% of the daily amount recommended by doctors. Here are the nutrients that a multi vitamin should include:

* Vitamin A

* B-complex = including B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 and B12

* Vitamin C

* Vitamin E

* Zinc

Although this requires you to take several pills, it does ensure your daily amount of essential nutrients to keep yourself healthy.

The one-per-day concept

Most of one-per-day multi vitamins do generally contain B-complex vitamins and variable amounts of vitamin A and vitamin D, depending on the kind of multi vitamin you choose. Some of the one-per-day multi vitamins contain large amounts of vitamin A and D, while others do not. Most multivitamins only have small amounts of essentials minerals, such as zinc, iron and copper, as the body does not require large quantities of such vitamins.

A high quality one-per-day multi vitamin supplement may ensure a reasonable amount of essential nutrients for people who have a traditional Western eating pattern. However, some do not, and you might need other supplements with calcium, magnesium, vitamin E and vitamin C.

Besides knowing what are various types of multi vitamin supplements, and alongside this little information may be enough for you to choose your supplements more carefully and to consume moderately. Before you are going to consume any type of vitamin health food, you need to first consult your doctor.

However, many people sometimes tend to forget the quality and quantity of popping these pills, without realizing the harmful effects of over-consumption of these supplements, level while various kinds of supplements can treat chronic diseases.

Losing Weight Could Mean Losing Vitamins and Nutrients

October 19th, 2008 by admin

Losing Weight Could Mean Losing Vitamins and Nutrients

Since losing weight could mean losing vitamins and nutrients, when you make the decision to lose weight, you should make sure that you only lose weight and not vitamins and minerals.

There is a simple mathematical weight loss equation that cannot be disputed. If you take in more calories than you use then you will gain weight, and if you use more calories than you take in then you will lose weight. The way that you measure weight loss or gain makes no difference. If you dont use or believe in the term calories it makes no difference.

The body uses fuel to produce the energy required for the life processes. Even if you are doing nothing, and are at complete rest, your body still uses fuel to drive the body processes that keeps you heart beating, your lungs breathing and all the other activities going on in your body. That is called your metabolic rate: the rate at which you use energy when at rest.

That fuel is provided by the food you eat and how you measure it is immaterial. If you take in more fuel than you use the excess is stored in the body. It can be stored in the liver in the form of glycogen that is used by the body as a quick emergency energy source, or under the skin and round the major organs as fat. It is the latter type of fat that is most dangerous to you since it is the last that is lost and can put stresses on your organs and your heart.

So what has this all got to do with vitamins, I can hear you say to yourself. Quite a lot actually. The body stores fat and the fat soluble vitamins, but it does not store the water soluble vitamins C and B complex, and nor does it store the water soluble minerals.

When you diet, you are eating as little as you can get away with without feeling too hungry. You are not thinking of nutrition since most people dont believe that they need nutrition if they are overweight. They think they need less. In fact, nothing could be farther from the truth. When you go on a diet, your body has to use the fat deposits it laid down while you were getting fat. It is also, therefore, using up the fat soluble vitamins.

Furthermore, unless you are still maintaining the proper intake of minerals and vitamins C and all the B vitamins, you will start to suffer from a deficiency of these. Luckily, many diets involve a good intake of fruit and vegetable, so you should be getting a good intake of vitamin C. Scurvy should not be a problem then! Contrary to what an astounding number of people believe, however, Vitamin C is needed for more than scurvy! It is a powerful antioxidant that helps the body clear up rouge molecules known as free radicals. These are chemicals than can interfere with body cells and cause heart disease and some cancers.

Normally the body can use vitamins C and E to destroy the free radicals and maintain a healthy body. Vitamin E deals with the free radicals that can cause heart disease, and since it is fat soluble, there should be a supply available in a person who is dieting. Vitamin C, on the other hand, destroys the free radicals that can cause cancer. Vitamin C is water soluble and not stored in the body. It has to be constantly replenished since it is continually passed in the urine. If you do not include vitamin C in your diet, then you could be harming yourself.

Minerals are essential for the well being of the body and vitamins cannot be used by the body unless they have a supply of the right minerals available to help them. It is what is called a synergistic effect; one cannot work without the other. Hence, your fat soluble vitamins are not much use without a good supplement of water soluble minerals.

What that means is that when you diet, you should work out the nutritional content of the food that you are consuming during the diet. The more you exercise while dieting, the less you have to actually diet. Remember the equation: if you use up more calories, or energy, than you take in, you will lose weight. Therefore, the more you exercise the more you can eat and still lose weight. However, having taken that into account and you are still not getting enough nutrition from your food, and then you will need a supplement. In some cases, food has to be limited to an extent to loose weight and this is whey a vitamin supplement is needed to supply the body with the needed vitamins to survive.

You dont have to go overboard, and a good multivitamin and mineral tablet taken once a day should meet your needs. Do not, however, rely on pills for all your nutritional needs since vitamins taken in pill form are generally a lot less effective than if taken in natural foods. This is because natural sources also contain traces of other substances such as enzymes and proteins that help the body to absorb and make full use of the phytonutrients in these foods. These are not present in pills since it would be extremely expensive to extract or synthesize them.

Some diets that are not imposed by a wish to lose weight also present need for supplementation. Vegans, for example, lack vitamin B12 in their diet. This vitamin is essential for the development of red blood cells, the nervous system, and growth and development of children, and is found in eggs, red meat and dairy products. A true vegetarian does not get it in their diet and they require a supplement. Vitamin B12 has been found in some algae, sea weed and fermented soya products but not in a bioavailable form that the human body could use.

Vegans also lack a significant natural source of protein in their diet, and make up for that through using soya extracts and micro-protein sources such as Quorn. However, it is now known that sufficient protein is available by a regular intake of the more protein rich vegetables, and artificial sources are not necessary accept, perhaps, for growing vegan children.

It is very easy to lose weight, but you can avoid losing vitamins and nutrients through a scientific approach to dieting and using up more energy than you take in. This is made easier the more exercise you carry out to maintain the negative balance between energy intake and use, but if a supplement is needed a simple multivitamin and mineral supplement can be taken once day.
