Acne Diet and The Money Factor: You Can’t Sell a Healthy Diet by Mike Walden

October 29th, 2008 by admin

Ask any medical doctor if there is a connection between diet and acne and almost all of them will claim there is none. Quoting from the Journal of the American Medical Association: “Diet plays no role in acne treatment in most patients…even large amounts of certain foods have not clinically exacerbated acne”.

With years of medical education and clinical experience behind these claims, how can we the simple folks who suffer from acne challenge these statements and think otherwise? The answer is: doubt. Doubt, if its stays in the borders of reason, can open many doors otherwise will stay forever shut. Believe it or not, doubt can change reality. Doubt can cure your acne and doubt can even save your life.

Fact is, countless of acne sufferers have reported that their acne seemed to get worse when they consumed certain foods and saw dramatic positive change over their acne condition when they eliminated the same foods from their diet and when certain foods with specific nutritional value were incorporated into their diet.

So why do dermatologists so stubbornly insist that diet does not cause acne? The answer: you can’t make a profit promoting a healthy diet. At least not as much money as you could make by selling drugs and over the counters. There is a huge pressure upon doctors coming from the drug and pharmaceutical companies to prescribe expensive medications and lotions that create dependency. The truth is, that your doctor is in a way, a hostage by the trillion dollar drug companies. Did you know that the drug companies, who have no interest in producing something that they cannot control financially, sponsor most medical schools?

The right diet, although not a solution by itself, can, in many cases, dramatically reduce inflammation and even completely clear one’s acne (if you’re one of the lucky ones who’s acne is triggered by allergic response to food). Promoting a clear skin diet simply means less profits for the drug and pharmaceutical companies.

The truth is that conventional medications will never cure your acne, simply because they are pre-designed NOT to fix the internal cause of acne. They are pre-designed to deal with the external symptoms of a disease as they create more and more dependency and more dependency means making more money all at our expense and ignorance.

The Theory That Diet Doesn’t Cause Acne Is A Myth

The dogmatic theory that diet does not cause acne and that acne is merely an incurable genetic disorder was based upon two dated researches published in 1969 and 1971 that were aimed at studying the connection between diet and acne.

These studies were the foundation of the ‘acne symptoms treatment strategy’, meaning, because acne is a genetic disease that cannot be prevented, the only way to deal with acne would be to tackle its symptoms (bacteria, inflammation, puss, redness, greasiness), by applying creams, antibiotics, taking prescription drugs and over the counters.

Surprisingly enough, years after the above studies were published, clinical trials and in depth researches experimenting the acne diet link have found that the studies from 1969 and 1971 had came to the wrong conclusions and were in fact seriously flawed.

Recent studies have clearly found a significant connection between diet and acne. It appears that the wrong diet is now thought to be one of the leading acne contributing factors that can negatively affect hormonal regulation and the natural process of toxic elimination, which can seriously aggravate one’s existing acne.

Diet Shapes Who You Are (Including Your Acne)

In the same way that crashing waves shape beach cliffs and just like the wind shapes the canyon walls, slowly and methodically over time, so does eating shapes and effects our physic, our internal system, our physical and mental being, from the organ down to the cellular level.

The idea that an object foreign to our body that is inserted by the food that we eat, has no effect on us, or has no impact on chronic conditions such as acne is absurd. Diet is the primary thing that affects and shapes who we are.

Diet has cumulative effect on our bodies, and that includes our skin condition and acne, which is a manifestation of a chronic internal problem slowly shaped and built by the wrong daily dietary choices over the years.

Acne Diet and Sugar: The Sweet Poison

Aside from the fact that sugar is a 100% pure chemical with zero nutritional value, recent studies have clearly shown a connection between the consumption of sugar and the aggravation of acne.

When you consume any form of refined carbohydrates (white sugar, white flour, white rice) here’s what happens: right after you insert that ’sweet poison’ into your body, it rapidly spikes up your blood sugar levels. Your body needs to bring those levels down so it secrets a surge of insulin, other male hormones and an insulin-like growth factor called IGF-1. The excretion of these hormones overwhelms your liver and your internal system in general. The excess of male hormones encourages the skin to excrete large amounts of sebum oil: The greasy substance that encourages the p.acne bacteria to grow, resulting in the aggravation of your acne.

Acne Diet and Dairy Products: Got Milk? Got Acne

If you thought sugar can aggravate your acne, here’s another major nutritional player in the formation of acne: behold the miracles of milk. Milk (all dairy products included) is the most harmful, mucus forming, allergenic and acne aggravating food you can find. Surprised? I thought so. After years of constant brainwashing by the media, who can blame us for thinking milk is good for strong bones and healthy teeth? The truth is: every sip of milk contains 59 different raging hormones, (which trigger the hyper-production of sebum oil resulting in more acne), saturated animal fat, steroid hormones, dead white blood cells, and cow pus in abundance!

Did you know that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows 750 million pus cells in every liter of milk (about two pounds) produced in America? Think about it, the next time you pop a pimple.

Scientific studies already point the finger at milk as one of the worst acne aggravating foods: “As pointed out by Dr. Jerome Fisher, ‘About 80 percent of cows that are giving milk are pregnant and are throwing off hormones continuously.’ Progesterone breaks down into androgens, which have been implicated as a factor in the development of acne…Dr. Fisher observed that his teenage acne patients improved as soon as the milk drinking stopped.”

If there’s one element you should remove from your diet in the quest for clear skin make it this one. Not only will you see an immediate improvement over your acne, you’ll feel a huge weight has been lifted from your body. If you worry about calcium intake, don’t! Milk being acidic forming food creates a leeching effect where calcium is taken from your bones to balance the acidity. Milk actually deprives your body from its calcium resources. Green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds are not only excellent sources of calcium they also have the powers to help you fight your acne symptoms.

Diet Is Only One of The Factors That Cause Acne

Dairy products and sugar are not the only acne aggravating foods. The two above cannot sum up the list of western made acne triggering foods. There are several other foods you should clearly stay away from if you ever wish to clear your acne. The good new is that there are tons of other foods such as essential fatty acids that are not only excellent for your skin, they can actually help you clear your acne, by re-balancing your body and promoting to an acne-free environment.

The right nutrition plays an important part in the complex process of acne formation. When doctors claim there is no link between diet and acne because certain individuals can eat specific foods and get acne while others eat the same foods and don’t, these doctors have failed to realize that there are several factors involved in the formation and aggravation of acne and diet is only ONE of them.

The Final Verdict On The Acne Diet Connection: How To Finally Overcome Your Acne Challenge

Acne is a complex condition that is triggered by several underlying factors. The only way to neutralize your acne condition is to tackle all these acne-contributing factors-holistically. Since the wrong diet is only one of these acne-triggering factors, in most cases no special diet can cure acne.

There is a however, a tight connection between diet and acne formation. Dietary factors can trigger and aggravate your existing acne. Avoiding the wrong foods such as milk, sugar and hydrogenated oils, and eating cleansing and hormonal balancing foods such as green leafy vegetables and essential fatty acids, can help your skin heal itself from the inside out and dramatically reduce your acne symptoms.

There are also several important dietary principals that you must understand and follow if you ever want to cure your acne for good.

Taking responsibility over your body and adhering to these dietary principals along with taking the necessary steps to tackle all acne contributing factors, holistically, will not only cure your acne permanently and give you the flawless acne free skin you deserve, following these principals will also significantly improve your overall health, mental well-being, look and feel.

Health, Could Hidden Food Allergies Be Causing Your Migraines???

October 27th, 2008 by admin

Today we’re going to talk about hidden food allergies. The first thing that it is important to understand is that there are different types of reactions to foods that we are allergic to. The most commonly understood and easily detected reaction is called a type 1 reaction or IgE reaction. With this type of reaction it is very easy to detect an allergy to a particular food. The symptoms of a Type 1 reaction are swelling of the throat, hives and an anaphylaxis type of reaction, a serious, potentially life-threatening allergic response. We are not focusing on that today because these allergies are very easily detected. The type of allergy I want to talk to you about would more likely fall into the category of food sensitivities which are the result of an entirely different immuno/ biological process altogether. One that instead of being an immediate reaction may take hours or even days to actually become apparent. This is one of the reasons that most people have trouble recognizing the relationship between the symptoms that they are experiencing with something that they ate days prior (type 3 or type 4 reactions), even though type 3 and type 4 reactions are much more common. In fact only 5 percent of the population is affected by the type 1 so that means that most are affected by the type 3 or 4 allergy which is the “hidden” type. How do you recognize whether or not you or someone you know could be experiencing a type 3 or 4 sensitivity or allergic reaction? The most common way of diagnosing such sensitivities is to undergo an elimination process where diet is severely restricted and then one by one foods are reintroduced into the diet (usually one food per week). This can take months or even years to complete!!! Until now this has been the “Gold Standard”! The news I am about to share with you is LIFE CHANGING!!! Say goodbye to the old gold standard because now there is a very simple in home test which will detect hidden food allergies! I know of a woman who suffered migraines for 18 years. She had been through test after test week after week and the doctors kept saying “there is nothing wrong” as they proceeded to prescribe another medication for her migraines. She spent thousands on these tests; in fact one of them cost her $1,200.00! After much arm twisting she took the in home test (for $99.00) and viola!!! The in home test revealed that she was allergic to foods in the mustard family. She is proceeding with the recommended protocol and I am happy to report NO MORE MIGRAINES! Another woman suffered from severe eczema for most of her life. There were times when she was house ridden for the better part of a week. After taking the in home test, she found out she was allergic to dairy. She is now on her way to living a normal life. Now I am not a doctor nor am I saying that we “cured them”. In fact that would be a felony (Thank you FDA). We simply detected the allergy and gave them the gastrointestinal support they needed to heal. Typically once the GI tract has healed itself; it has been found that the food can then be reintroduced with no further reactions! The strange thing is that this type of test has been used by physicians for years with amazing success but it isn’t promoted widely. This is because most doctors tend to focus on Type 1 allergies instead of the other 2. Let’s look at food allergies and sensitivities a little closer; shall we? In a typical type 1 the food antigens can trigger the mast cell mechanism at any point in their journey through the body. Lip, tongue, throat burning and swelling are most obvious symptoms of this. The antigen may not react in gastro intestinal tract but activate Type 1 responses in blood or target organs, especially lungs and connective tissue. The onset of “immediate reactions” may be delayed hours after eating offending foods. Major symptoms include: flushing, swelling, shortness of breath, fast heart rate, panic, pain, and confusion. What happens when dealing with a type 3 or 4 reaction (hidden sensitivity) is quite different. In this type of reaction the antibodies bind directly to the food particles themselves as they enter the blood stream. Then they form different sizes of circulating immune complex. This complex is comprised of the allergens and the antibodies that reacted to it becoming bound together and then circulating in the blood stream. It is important to understand that in this case there is a delayed reaction of symptoms not seen with the Type 1 reaction. Also unlike Type 1 reactions, type 3 and 4 are usually from a food that you eat OFTEN and even CRAVE. In fact cravings are common as are withdrawal symptoms. The numbers here are huge! It is thought that nearly 60 to 80 million Americans suffer from this type of reaction. What are the symptoms of type 3 %26 4 reactions? There are hundreds of them! (Hold on to your chair.) You know someone who is affected by this. Tinnitus, recurrent ear infections, asthma, dark circles under the eyes (allergic shiners also seen in children reacting to vaccines), chronic digestive problems (diarrhea, constipation and heartburn), spastic colon, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel, fluctuations in blood sugar, joint and muscle pain, fluid retention, brain fog and or mental confusion, irritability, eczema and many others. In fact studies have shown that even (temporary) changes in your voice or hoarseness can take place as the result of these reactions! The good news is that they are reversible but a skin test will not detect their presence. How do we end up with these reactions or sensitivities? Lack of breast feeding is one culprit. When breast feeding became unpopular asthma became epidemic. This is largely due to an immunoglobulin deficiency, as human immunoglobulin is not contained in cow’s milk. Food sensitivities of all types are far more prominent in babies who were not breast fed. Let’s think about that… When a baby is born it is meant for that baby to have mommy’s breast milk. The intestine is somewhat porous. All of the foods going through the intestine are being exposed to the blood stream in a way does not take place after weaning, when porous elements of the intestine gradually begin to close. The food that passes through the intestine from that point forward is not directly exposed to the blood as it would be in earlier years. In fact many people who have wheat allergies were fed wheat based formulas when they were infants!! It is also important to note that when genetically modified soy was introduced into the UK, soy allergies skyrocketed by 50 percent and I suspect that many other GMOs are causing allergic reactions among the unsuspecting populace at large. See the GMO Trilogy for more information on the devastating effects of genetically modified food. If you sit back and think or better yet, keep a mental note of this article, I am sure you will encounter someone you know who meets the criteria or has the symptoms mentioned above. I STRONGLY encourage you to let them see this information because it just might CHANGE THEIR LIFE! Stay tuned for next weeks’ “Custom Health 4 You News” Hidden Food Allergies Part 2. Until then… Yours in health and wellness! How to cure Asthma at home

How to cure Asthma at home

Asthma is a chronic disease of the respiratory system in which the airway occasionally constricts, becomes inflamed, and is lined with excessive amounts of mucus, often in response to one or more triggers. It is a disease of the airways or branches of the lung (bronchial tubes) that carry air in and out of the lungs. Asthma causes the airways to narrow, the lining of the airways to swell and the cells that line the airways to produce more mucus.A chronic disease in which the bronchial airways in the lungs become narrowed and swollen, making it difficult to breathe. Symptoms include wheezing, coughing, tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, and rapid breathing. Asthma is a chronic, inflammatory lung disease characterized by recurrent breathing problems. People with asthma have acute episodes or when the air passages in their lungs get narrower, and breathing becomes more difficult. Condition characterized by sudden, recurring attacks of coughing, chest constriction, labored breathing, lung congestion and wheezing. Asthma involves overreactivity by the parasympathetic vagus nerve. Constriction of the airways (bronchial tubes) to the lungs, producing symptoms of cough and shortness of breath. It may be an allergic response.Any drug that is constantly used , stops working. Then the medication has to be changed and or dose increased. At last, a stage comes when all drugs in maximum doses become ineffective. But Asthma stays. Treatment for asthma varies, depending on severity. You could use an inhaler for individual attacks, take a pill daily to keep attacks from happening, or even take breathing treatments regularly to keep your airways open. Check with you Doctor for the best treatment for your asthma! Asthma is always related to a sudden, unexplained difficulty of breathing with accompanying wheezing and controlled only with bronchodilators (drugs). Emotions trigger the release of some hormones that tighten airways. When the emotion is controlled, problem is corrected. The best non-medication treatment for asthma is to learn your triggers and avoid them. Asthma is an allergy. Allergies are triggered by irritants. If its pets, don’t let the pet in the house or at least not in the bedroom. If its smoke, don’t smoke or go places that are smoky. If you are unable to figure out your triggers, you will need prescription medications. Natural remedies just don’t work most of the time. Some tips and suggestion for asthma patients:Avoid smoke, especially cigarette smoke, vapours and chemical fumes. Stay indoors during the humid season or the change of seasons especially when the pollen count is high. Do not use fans in closed and dusty places. Cover mattresses and pillows with plastic covers. Wash the bedding in hot water every week. Do not use a vaporizer or humidifier unless it is thoroughly cleaned. Do not have close contact with pets. Pet owners should bathe their pet weekly. The cleaning of the house or the surroundings should be done by wet mopping rather than sweeping, wherever possible. This avoids the generation of allergen aerosols which could act as a triggering factor.

Some Information On Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis

Some Information On Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis

A person will never know if they are allergic to a certain type of food unless they have eaten the food allergen itself. It takes a certain amount of food for the reaction to take place and trigger a symptom. Food allergy and anaphylaxis are closely related, but they have their own defining differences that will be discussed as you read on. Plus, a person can also develop allergic reactions to foods that are closely related to the original food allergy he or she has. Say, an allergy to oysters can also lead to an allergic reaction when the person eats shrimp, crabs, or fish. In food allergy, the individual’s immune system reacts in two ways. The body may respond through the use of mast cells. These mast cells can come about at just any part of the human body but its favorite spots make itself known to the world is in the throat, lungs, eyes, skin, and especially the organs of the gastrointestinal system. The other type of response is through the body’s release of immunoglobulin E antibodies that travel through the blood system. It then eventually causes the discharge of the body chemical histamine which then causes the activation of allergic reactions in the common body sites previously mentioned. On the other hand, anaphylaxis is derived form the Greek words ana and phylaxis, which subsequently means back and protection. It is the abrupt allergic response that is much more intense than the common allergy which can be lethal to the sufferer. Chief causes of anaphylaxis include insect stings, skin contact to latex, medications, and food. Anaphylaxis may also be idiopathically caused or, in lay man’s terms, unknown causes. Like in food allergy, anaphylaxis involves the reaction of the different body sites; the only difference is the intensity of the response and only a small amount of the allergen is needed for the reaction to take place. The time span before signs and symptoms become evident ranges from within a few seconds up to a few hours after allergen exposure. Anaphylaxis can come about following the intake of food, skin contact, or even as simple as inhalation of the food aroma. The life threatening type of anaphylaxis is called anaphylactic shock. In anaphylactic shock, only a tiny amount of the food allergen is needed to cause death to the sufferer within moments of exposure. Individuals who are in danger of undergoing an anaphylactic reaction are those who have a history of allergy to food, asthma, and eczema. They are more likely to experience an anaphylactic response that can be fatal. Another population group who are also at risk of anaphylaxis, through the evidences of current studies that have been conducted, is teenagers who are afflicted with a certain type of food allergy. This is due to the fact that teenagers have frequent tendencies to eat out, are daring and experimental in their endeavors, and are more likely to fail to identify symptoms of anaphylactic reaction. Moreover, teenagers have tendencies to forget to carry with them essential medications which can either be caused by self-consciousness common to their age group. Symptoms of anaphylaxis may be similar to that of food allergies. Basically, an incident of anaphylaxis initially starts with an itchy or irritating sensation, and some individuals experience a metallic after-taste. Anaphylactic symptoms may also include hot flashes or sudden warm feeling, inflammation of the throat and oral cavity, hives, dyspnea or labored breathing, low blood pressure, diarrhea, gastric irritations, and fainting or loss of consciousness. Furthermore, there are cases wherein the symptoms fade away for a moment but then come back within a few hours; this incidence is known as biphasic reaction. To prevent food allergy and anaphylactic reactions, careful scrutiny of food labels, diet modifications, specific instructions in food orders in restaurants, and certain medications can be of great help in reducing the incidence of any type of reaction. Moreover, a consultation to the physician is advisable for an efficient management plan and if allergies seem to run in families because it can also be hereditarily caused.

Irritating Snore – Let’s get Rid of it

Irritating Snore – Let’s get Rid of it

Snoring is usually not every time tending to develop in a very irritating as well as disturbing convention. Snoring is the act of breathing in and out with an open mouth in a way which leads to a vibration of uvula as well as the soft palate. This vibration produces out a sound that might vary from a supple noise to a deafening moreover leading to unpleasant sound. Snoring is a practice which is most common at the time of sleeping as well as it also occurs instantaneously after death. The critical cause of snoring is the existence of several kind of obstruction in the breathing channel of a person. This obstruction might be sourced due to many things such as the tongue which frequently falls into our throats when we are in a lying situation.Snoring can also be reasoned by an allergic response when the tissues which line themselves in airway inflame result down in an amount of obstruction. There are even some anatomical reasons for snoring like throat weakness which sources the throat to shut up at the time one is sleeping or an uneven jaw moreover that is often caused by nervousness in muscles. Snoring can even be based by chubby tissues assembling in as well as in the order of the throat leading to conclusion. These obstructions lead to the air flow down the breathing passage to be converted into uneven resulting in the fluttering of the supple palate. It is the flapping of the spongy palate which makes sound of snoring. Snoring is habitually an instinctive exploit however the sounds that are produced might be voluntarily. Doctors recommend people who snore at the time of sleeping are quite drowsy when aware to be checked with any sleep disorders as well.Snoring is not measured as a health risk for most of the snorers. On the other hand, if it is snoring which is sourced by any momentous obstacle in there breathing passage, it might be a signal of disorder which may be threatening to life. A human being that snores can possibly have the disorder commonly termed as sleep apnea. In addition, even though if this snoring might not be destructive for the snorer, it may be disturbing deeply for the snorer’s bedmate ensuing loss of sleep in him or her. This loss of sleep makes the person sleepy all day long and could lead to problems for the person and those around him.

Health, Canker sores

October 22nd, 2008 by admin

These sores are usually found in the mouth. It could be on the roof of the mouth, beneath the tongue(on the soft palate), inside the chick, on the inside of the lips or beneath the gum. Canker sores are usually very painful and will go away between 7-10 days. There is no known cure for these sores, neither is there a known cause for them. Unlike the cold sores, these are not contagious and you need not worry if a member of your family or a close friend has them. Canker sores usually present themselves as a whitish lession with a red border, a small bump or red spot which produces a slight burning/tingling sensation. What causes canker sores? The following are some of the causes; 1. Braces could break the mucous membrane causing an infection 2. Weak immune system 3. Allergic response 4. Inflammatory bowel diseases 5. Certain food stuff eg. chocolate, coffee, strawberries, nuts, cheese etc. 6. Hormonal shifts during menstruation periods 7. Highly acidic foods such as pineapples 8. Emotional stress 9. HIV AIDS suppresses the immune system There are two types of canker sores, minor sores and major sores. When you have minor sores, you will notice an oval lesion in your mouth, under your tongue or inside the chick which should clear between 1-2 weeks leaving no scar. Major sores however present themselves as large lesions and can last for a month or even years. They heal leaving an extensive scar. What are the symptoms of canker sores? These include fever, listlessness, swollen glands. It is best therefore that you make sure that your immune system is at its peak to avoid this infection and other opportunistic infection. Bee Stings - Wasp Stings - The simple facts and the cures

October 19th, 2008 by admin

What is a Bee Sting: A Bee Sting is caused by the part ’stinger’ of a creature such as a wasp or bee, that delivers a poison when used to pierce the skin of another animal or a human.

Bee Sting Symptoms: Bee Stings can cause a lot of symptoms, but the most common is first there will be a sharp pain and burning sensation in the area of the sting. To some people this is very painful, a lot worse than getting a shot in the doctors office. The severe pain and buring is caused by the poison in the bee or wasps venom.

Other symptoms of bee stings are a redness or swelling of the local area. I swell up like a pancake near any sting site. Some people develop a rash or hives, and yet others that are very allergic to the venom will have severe problems such as swelling of the lips or throat, swelling around the eyes, throat tightness, wheezing, difficulty breathing, hoarseness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, lightheadedness, or passing out due to low blood pressure. If you start developing any of the severe symptoms, get to a Hospital ER right away or call an ambulance.

Bee Sting Treatment: There are a lot of treatments for Bee and Wasp Stings, and here are just a few. To ease the pain of a sting, take a pain reliever such as acetaminophen (Tylenol). Some people make a mixture of water and meat tenderizer and apply it onto the bite. Papain, an enzyme in meat tenderizer, breaks down the protein in bee venom responsible for the pain and itching. Don’t leave this on for more than 30 minutes, or it can irritate the skin and cause a rash in some people. Apply an ice pack or bag of very cold water for 10 to 30 minutes after the sting, the cold slows down the body’s allergic response.

Bee Sting Prevention: How does one prevent bee or wasp stings ? If you are outdoors in the spring or summer months, you will encounter bees and wasps. Try your best to stay away from these flying creatures if possible. If you are mowing the grass or walking, or picking berries, you will encounter a bee or wasp in time. Do not swing or react violently towards it, to do so, may excite it, causing it to attack and sting. Just try to move out of the way, or slowly react to it in a calm movement. If you see a bee or wasp inside, kill it with a fly swatter or rolled up newspaper. Do not pick up the dead wasp or bee right after it has been killed, the bee or wasps stinger will often move for over an hour by muscle or nerve reactions, making the creature able to sting a long time after it’s dead.

If you encounter a nest of bees outside and if you are sure you can safely kill them, dress for the occasion and wait until night time to spray it from a distance or very early in the morning, when it’s cool and the creatures are in their nest and are not yet active. But be warned, once you spray a nest, soak it completely and fast, it will only take a couple seconds before the creatures may start flying out and stinging, if they are not all killed right away. Once sprayed, do not walk or stand near the nest, because bees that are sprayed and slowly dying will often drop to the ground, and may crawl up your pant legs or get into your shoes.

A Study on Semen Allergies

October 19th, 2008 by admin

Many of us suffer from allergies, even this time of year when the weather is getting cold. But here%26#146;s an allergy that can be a year round allergy: one to your husband!

In theory you can be allergic to anything that is foreign to your body.

But parents, take caution: this allergy that women can get in response to a man is one caused by sex.

Now, here%26#146;s an excuse to break up with someone%26#133; you%26#146;’re allergic to them! %26#147;Allergic to another person?,%26#148; says Aileen. %26#147;Uh, I suppose it is possible.%26#148;

Yes, according to new research, sex can cause a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

The problem: semen allergy.

Dr. David Resnick, the Director of the Allergy Division, NY Presbyterian Hospital, says, %26#147;The local symptoms are burning, itching, discomfort after intercourse, usually a short period of time, usually a few minutes or up to an hour, or someone can have a generalized reaction where they can have coughing, shortness of breathe, hives, rhinorrhea, and it can be very uncomfortable.%26#148;

Semen allergy is particularly suspected if symptoms go away with condom use or abstinence.

The researchers say it%26#146;s not known how many women may be allergic to their partner%26#146;s semen.

%26#147;The allergy mainly comes from the prostate gland, there are many different proteins in the prostate gland,%26#148; states Dr. Resnick.

In some cases, substances such as certain medications and foods%26#151;like nuts, may cause allergic reactions when transmitted through seminal fluid.

%26#147;If a women has an allergy to food it is possible for a small amount to get into the semen and the person have an allergic response%26#148; says

Approximately 50 percent of women with semen allergy have other allergic diseases, such as skin allergy and allergic rhinitis–so-called %26#147;hay fever%26#148;.

Most women are between age 20 and 30, and 41 percent experience symptoms with their first sexual intercourse.

The researchers say semen allergy should be considered as a possible diagnosis for women who report symptoms that occur shortly after intercourse.

It can be treated. %26#147;We take small diluted amount of semen and introduce it to the vaginal tract over the course of an hour and a half, we start with microscopic amounts and place it in the vaginal tract every twenty minutes and at the end the patients actually receive a full dose of undiluted semen and they are considered desensitized,%26#148; says Dr. Resnick.

And then the trick is to yes, have more sex!

%26#147;It is very important that they continue to have intercourse at least two or three times per week in order to remain in that desensitized state.%26#148;

Now, that%26#146;s a prescription!

Because this can be potentially a life-threatening allergy, patients with it have to carry around an epi-pen, and have it available especially when they%26#146;re having sex.
